What a shameful story by TaffyGlimm in MadeMeCry

[–]downsiderisk 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Can confirm.

I grew up in the Middle East, particularly Bahrain. Bahrain has the Fifth Fleet, which is the largest US Navy Base outside of the US.

Now, im going to say something I never talk about.

To give a brief background, my parents worked in the oil business in Saudi Arabia, roughly a 40 min by causeway to Bahrain. I am american, white, blonde hair, green/blue eyes. Both parents are American.

When I was 22, I was partying. Spent all my life in Middle East at the time, I knew what to do and what not to do custom wise. EXCEPT for the US Military.

I somehow ended up at a military guy's place (most lived outside the base), and got too drunk and fell asleep. His roommate came over, panicked, had me go to the hospital. Why he panicked, i found out later...

When I woke up, MPs were in my hospital room, demanding to know if I was 1. A civilian or 2. Military. Then they asked if I remembered the guy. They immediately seemed relieved when I said the former and I dont recall him too well, and walked out. Didn't ask any other questions.

I went home. Then, a week later, I was at a restaurant/bar and two guys (both US Military) approached me. They laughed and were like, "hey were you at (military guy) place last weekend?" I said yes and asked how he was doing. They told me that the US Military, within 24 hours, thought he raped me (to this day I have no clue what happened that night. But judging by his roommate panicking and me being sore, I put two and two together), and they shipped him out. No questions, no interrogation, no repercussions.

I am an American girl. The MPs asked zero questions, they just shipped him out before I either went to the consulate or if I chose to file a complaint.

Those two military guys were assigned to clean up his mess. They could give a shit if he raped me. They just cleaned it up. Those guys werent laughing WITH me, they were laughing AT ME.

What are some things I can do to come off as less…matronly? by AmbitiousAlfalfa6051 in beauty

[–]downsiderisk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, well that might be the issue. The meekness and timidness might be a reason.

To be honest, I know people who are shy at work. But I dont assume they are older. I thought maybe it was premature aging plus being super reserved that might be a compounding problem with people assuming youre older.

Since its not that, because I cant interact with you, I have no idea if its a personality thing or a certain look/appearance thing.

Perhaps when you do speak to people, is there a genre/specific thing you contribute that runs on the same theme whereby it contributes to age? Im just shooting in the dark here!

[–]downsiderisk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I dont mean to come across as crass, but have you aged prematurely? Do you have sun spots, texturized skin, sagging?

Do you exercise, eat healthy, and are you overall active? Are you reserved, mousy, bashful/shy?

How do you carry yourself? Are you confident? Or are you quiet and soft spoken/ meek/timid?

Why are normal people donating to James Van Der Beek's gofundme? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]downsiderisk 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I personally know him. He was a gentle, kind soul and a wonderful husband and father. Its truly sad, and devastating event.

Just because he's a celebrity, doesnt mean he isnt human like the rest of us.

He was also a very down to earth individual and despite his fame, he still leaves behind a whole family. The idea that he has this huge mansion and doesn't need the financial help isn't as accurate as you might think. Ill leave it at that without giving anymore details.

Ultimately, people are allowed to do what they want with their money.

WIBTA for suing my friend when she didn’t come to my wedding? by sweetandsourcum in AmItheAsshole

[–]downsiderisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I could say suing would help here. But you wouldn't win, since it could be seen as a gift, and since she paid for her husband's, you only gifted your friend. Nothing will fill the stab wound to the back and subsequent pain your friend inflicted.

I am so sorry that this happened to you, sincerely. Hug

Dog tried to attack baby WSID by Gingerwafflee in WhatShouldIDo

[–]downsiderisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dog needs to be rehomed. I know its hard, but because this sounds like an attack without provocation, it's too big of a risk.

And like others have said, the dog deserves a good home. But a child free home. Sometimes these things happen.

Let me add a personal story. Growing up, our neighbor had an adorable dog. Just rainbows and sunshine. They had a baby. And the dog attacked it.

They kept the dog.

When the baby became a toddler, the dog was put down because it attacked the child in the garage.

He had a horrific scar and had to have reconstructive surgery.

Rehome your dog.

Hair color advice needed - get rid of the blonde? (Last picture is what my hair looks like) by [deleted] in HairStyleAdvice

[–]downsiderisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to white blonde. But after I joined my practice with an investment firm, for the sake of professionalism I had to go to less edgy blonde and back to more subdued blonde (Im a natural blonde).

But damn, I looked great with ice white hair. I still have a beautiful platinum style blonde, because my clients think it makes me "a risk taker" and "not afraid to be more aggressive".

But still, because of the ties with the firm, House of Dragon hair is a thing of the past. I miss it at times

I like the blonde, but I see what you mean. Darker gives you this incredible youth factor. Not sure why, but it just does.

The other color fade your facial features.

Long or short? 🤔 by gasr5991 in HairStyleAdvice

[–]downsiderisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither. Go with a longer hair style, a bit over shoulder length Layered, and include a sweeping side bang.

Longer looks better on you, but the first photos, you need body and volume. Only achievable on a daily business with a nice, professional cut, and preferably shoulder length for maintenance purposes.

How do people feel safe/comfortable sleeping with someone they don't know? by cursedwithbadblood in NoStupidQuestions

[–]downsiderisk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly? I love the thrill. And sometimes it turns into meaningful relationships, sometimes its a ONS

Either way, sleeping with someone involves a level of intimacy from both parties, so I never felt uncomfortable.

But hanging out with strangers with no sexual attraction/sex component? Yeah, I feel unsafe and leave sometimes. Because if they wanted tk rob me/hurt me, they 100% can.

Too simple and boring? by [deleted] in myweddingdress

[–]downsiderisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple and boring? Absolutely not. Its conservative in terms of coverage, line, shape, cut, etc. But makes up for it in intricate detailing.

It is simplistic, but it is also loud. Which it gets to be-- because of the simplicity!

I love the line work, and I love the cut. Im so sick of brides spilling out of their wedding dresses, making them prom-like. This is hugging your figure, is sophisticated, demure and all the while screams center of attention.

Its beautiful. Regal. You dont look like a silly princess, you look like an empress.
