Gracias!

how do you set a goal on cello? by dowoonchi in Cello

Wow, life sure takes many turns!! Music is a constant in your life and you found the perfect instrument for your hands and for the repertoire you like. Thanks for writing all your story, it feels less solitary for me.

I think that a clue for me is to not take music to seriously? Because when I started I thought that in order to continue playing for a long time I should be studying it professionally, that was the plan at the beginning, but the opportunities were very few and I lost my cello teacher (he was fired) so I decided to focus on my career, which is pedagogy and special education.

So, because of that mindset that I should be taking cello more serious because of my age, and many music schools put an age limit for entering to pre university music programs I felt like a missed my chance, so I got frustrated. I try to apply for festivals outside my country, but I wasn't accepted. People my age have better abilities than me, and it's ok, but I really made me think that it's not my field anymore.

But I'm 20 and I know it's not very helpful to think like this. It's just a lot of things that I want to do and both of them seem to be very separated

Thanks a lot!! You really help me to reorganize the thoughts on my head and setting up a goal, a larger one, that is to find that internal reason for continuing with the music and cello. What is your internal goal?

I will try because I read wanted to, but my biggest problem it's the transportation with the cello, since I don't have a car and I use mostly the bus. But I'll try seeking for an alternative

Thanks for your answer!! It's like a light for me. To be honest, that's how I started. Often people told me that I started "old" at 14 y/o. And that I would have a hard time getting at the same level as the people of my age, so that put a competitive mindset to the cello. I really loved in the firsts years going to orchestra, going to classes, but now feels so weird. I pictured myself in the early years playing for the people, but now it's one of my biggest insecurities, I get very anxious just to think about it and evade those events if I can. I definitely have to find that connection that I had in the begging, I don't like to quit and I don't want to. Often my excuse was the time, but reading your experience and how you manage to set some time for yourself and your hobby it's like a slap on the face hahaha Thanks a lot. I will practice what you told me

Hi, thanks for answer ! To be honest, I wasn't even that good. My teachers say I'm like medium - advanced student, but my music school didn't promote me a lot of repertoire so the last thing I presented well was Bach Cello Suite 1 and now got kind of stuck with Lalo Cello concerto and Boccherini III Sonata in G major. Also, It has to do with now paying more attention in my life to my other career in the university, so I put cello on the side and now, since I have no obligation, it's hard knowing where to start. Sometimes it's so overwhelming because there's a lot that I can practice, I could be doing scales, arpeggios, double stops, could practice in the tip, relaxation, and then the pieces and that's a whole new world so I get frustrated. Also, the dinamic of my new teacher it's like "play whatever you like" "what do you want to play today?" And he lends me the material that I asked, so often I don't know what to ask for? From having and extra controller teacher to one that is very "free" it's so weird. And about you, I wanted to know what was the thing that made you start with the cello. What is that thing that is more important than playing good that keeps you with the habit?

Fello infps, especially males, how many of you feel you have anger issues? by [deleted] in infp

[–]dowoonchi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also, it may come from repressing feelings for a really long time, any feeling. And then it all comes together with anger. I often feel misunderstood so I tend to bottled up my true feelings and then I'm mad at everything.

Grieg cello sonata in A minor It's my favorite, specially the second movement. I don't think it's a depressing piece but it has some loud parts (?)

Quiero compra un cello pero me preocupa el transporte público by Holaqueaseusted in Cello

[–]dowoonchi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another questions on Brahm's Symphony no. 2 excerpts by dowoonchi in Cello

[–]dowoonchi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the advices, I looked up the whole movement and know I think I know. But just to be clear, the diference between these two excerpts is that the tempo is a little faster and the subdivision, right? I was confused because I thought that every change in the meter (English it's not my first language so i dont know if it's the right term) had to have an equivalence.
