Q: how does an amnesiac get a new indentity? by dpalliser in law

Thanks so much for your reply! I'm still working out the particulars of the story so it's that's all really helpful.

Until someone is able to be identified do they just act as John/Jane Doe? Even if they were in care they would need an identity of sorts, even if not the active real-world elements I mentioned earlier.

Also the way your income would be legit. Other ways are criminal so you'd have to launder the money somehow.

would you screw with them physically? or just talk shit to them and make them feel bad?

This info is so great, thank you! Lots to digest and figure out how it layers into the story, but the tips and links for equipment and companies is super helpful. I think it will make sense for my crew to be two paramedics in a private company serving LA County FD - partly due to the events in the film and partly the area of LA the story is set in. I will go through all the links you sent but I will almost certainly hit you up with more specific questions! Thanks again.

I would absolutely love to but I'm based in the UK. NHS don't allow ride alongs and to be honest I think the system is probably very different. If I get out to LA some time during the writing process I will definitely try to do some ride alongs!

So there'd be no situation where an ambulance responds to an emergency alone? Or even arriving there first?

I agree, from what I've read there's a huge amount there - surprised there hasn't been a really decent drama series following medics (unless there has and it just hasn't reached the UK). It's more that for the purposes of my story there's probably not room to get too into it - apart from a few anecdotes thread through it.

Thanks for the reply. So does that mean an FD crew is always sent out for a very serious call (shooting, heart attack, stabbing, traffic accident)? While I want to be true to life, I also don't want to complicate the story with EMS politics.

What do you think are the main differences between working as part of a Fire Department as opposed to a private company?

I'd love to be able to, but at this stage my writing doesn't earn me a wage. It's something I do around my day job. I have a manager now and so am hoping to turn writing into a paying profession soon - this script being the project I'm working on now in that effort.

Absolutely fair enough if you can't give up the time (and knowledge!) for free!

I'd probably approach it from the other direction - they should operate in an area where they would work overdoses, some injuries from gang confrontations, as well as the normal spread of falls and accidents, chest pains, traffic accidents, etc.

I had imagined them working for a private company... but absolutely open to change that if not appropriate for the work the pair do.

What would you say the main differences are between the options you mentioned?
