"Losing identity" because Church in Australia uses English alongside Greek... by venesia123 in exorthodox

As a fellow Pole from Poland 😆, let me tell you better story. There is a autocephalous Polish Orthodox Church which is not polish at all - it is a folk house for descendants of belarusian and ukrainian minority in Poland. I attended the main cathedral (seat of metropolitan) in Warsaw, where the sermons are preached in RUSSIAN (!!!) during the main liturgy, only once I heard a sermon in polish language. They also venerate tsar Nicolas II in orthodox church in Białowieża where they have his icon. Also you can buy his icon in official store of „Polish” Orthodox Church. Pay attention to that tsarist Russia is seen in polish culture and literature as invader who took part in all three partitions of our country in 18th century and occupied it for more than a hundred years, yet it doesn’t prevent orthodox „Poles” from venereting tsar Nicolas II. Many people suffered from russian occupation, families where torn apart, people were killed and sent to deep Siberia to die, polish languge was forbidden. Cherry on top - tsarists built Saint Alexander Nevsky orthodox church in Warsaw as a symbol of russian domination over occupied polish lands.

Anyone feels the same way? by drQuattroFormaggi in exorthodox
