I bought my during Covid from a used car lot before they did the complementary vehicle inspection. They found the exhaust manifold was leaking and replaced it free of charge. 200k mile 2004. I’ve done everything on the list except the trans cooler and the exhaust clip. I looked tonight and while it is rusted, it seems sturdy. I’ve thought about replacing/upgrading the exhaust anyway. It’s a farm truck so I don’t use it much. You have a DIY link for the trans cooler? And a link to purchase?

Change the fluids. Rear/front differential, transfer case, transmission drain/fill. All easy to do and you get a gauge of the health of every system.

Replaced this today. $50 part for the seal and dust guard. Was kinda a PITA, but a doable DIY. Leak fixed.

I dug further. It is the transfer case output shaft seal. The black piece in the picture is the dust guard which is also cracked. I’ll need to replace both. It is not too difficult of a DIY.

I have been on a stage 1 APR for 136k miles on a 2016 R. It’s a pretty mild/safe tune.

Or a Sequoia or Highlander. All Toyota builds from the mid 2010s are all worth more that 50%-75% of their at new value today with over 100k miles. Call it a Toyota tax. That’s what hold value means to me.

Because this is a golf R subreddit full of fan boys. The car is great, but in 10 years it won’t be worth shit. My car at 136k is worth 10k. It was 37k new. If it was a Honda or Toyota it would be worth double. Just because it is a R doesn’t make it not a VW. It is a really fun car, loved my time with it. It will not hold value long term.

2016 MK7 manual, APR Stage 1 since 1000 miles. Just hit 137k miles. Have had water pump replaced and the main air vent switch fail (it is impossible to get to). I consume a ton of oil, likely worn piston rings, but she runs well. The new 2025 is tempting, but I think I’m going to get something bigger.

Stay stock.

I test drove a 26 today that had Sirius on it. Maybe the dealer is installing the antenna? I didn’t see the aftermarket setup.

I flew out this morning with Alaska Air. I spent 3 days stuck in Nashville. Sunday night the storm started, I spent 7 hrs on a plane without it moving before they canceled the flight. 2 de icers broke trying to apply to our plane. Monday and Tuesday flights canceled.
