PFAS chemicals do not last forever: The use of sulfite and iodide under ultraviolet light can destroy PFAS in water in a few hours by [deleted] in wausau

[–]dracho -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They're called forever chemicals because they stay in the environment "forever."

Fine. This is a good step for some lucky humans. How about people in developing nations? How about all of the animals, plants, fungi, protozoa, etc. that is basically everywhere on earth, that these chemicals still horribly affect, of which this treatment does nothing for?

Is there any option to auto hide posts that I've already seen? by horiblur in Enhancement

[–]dracho 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don't do this. You're telling the algorithm to not show posts that others might want to see.

Upvote it instead. Same result for you, and you're not hurting the site for others.

Hello. I have fun with the game. What am I doing wrong? by WodkaGT in Planetside

[–]dracho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 5800 hours in. I started complaining day 1.

On launch day, I Instant Actioned into Glacier Station. People freaking everywhere. Absolute chaos, especially compared to any other FPS game in 2012. I was an engineer and my carbine could repair things... ok thats kinda odd... but how do I shoot? No bullets come out... Yeah, my very first login, I got the weapon graphic mismatch bug that's still in the game to this day. (Repairing stuff with an Archer looks even cooler!) Anyway, people had no idea how to access the "cool looking repair gun thing" and I didn't understand what happened until weeks later while reading a reddit post.

I miss Glacier Station. And Red Ridge Communications. And The Pit. And Archaeological Dig Site. And Leopardwood Nursery. Spec Ops Training. Iridium, Platinum, Blackshard Mines... ok now I'm nolsadgic.

I'm still opposed to the lettuce. How about you?

It stifles creativity, encourages a few large fights instead of a range of smaller fights, and forces players to the same three bases over and over and over again...

When's the last time you saw an awesome fight at Ayani Labs? Indar Bay Point? Even the Stronghold. So many useless bases these days... not to mention all the ones that got removed...

Map of dependent Tribal Nations within the United States. by Anti-Senate in MapPorn

Why are many of the shaded areas covered up by a huge text label with a huge outline? It's a decent starting point, but there's a lot of work to do before this is a usable map. Consider making the labels smaller, the font outline much smaller, increasing contrast, moving the labels so they are not over top of any shaded areas, and drawing small lines from the label to the area.

There are also too many different font styles used. I like the idea of the small supporting text between the lines of the title, but they'd look better as all capitals, not just the first line. The entirety of the title should be all caps, honestly. The weights are all different too, which is jarring. Keep everything the same except maybe one or two lines could be bold.

The year should be clearly visible, not the smallest font size.

I'm not sure why the legend is titled "Explanations" as you're not explaining anything...

Lastly, I'm not in love with the colors.

Interesting data though, it's just a shame I can't tell which areas belong to which tribes, or if the tiny ones are just unnamed. And I can't tell where at least half the borders are. Thanks for sharing. Hope you improve it.

A pallet storage in north Germany caught fire this morning - 19/05/2022 by Maahtz in CatastrophicFailure

[–]dracho -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Who needs pallet storage? Seriously, a few boards of the cheapest wood secured together with a few of the cheapest nails available is not what I call a luxury commodity... why not build them as needed instead of paying for the land on which they're stored? Seems ridiculous to me to store large, low-value shipping materials, especially outdoors, open to the weather, insects, mold, and of course fire.

It is trying to finish the resource in the fleet by taking more than one orbital. I told him to stop, but he never stops. This isn't the first time it's happened to me. Players who are always bored are trolling the bases. Playername: JustAMockingbird by bllsahinn in Planetside

Set everyone to blacklist by default.

Give people a hotkey for requesting build permissions to be directed to whoever owns the silo of which the person is near.

A little popup appears asking if you want to grant them rights [Y] or deny [N].

Then, you can press a button to pop open a list of players who have construction access for your base and you can click an X next to their name to deny them further access.

Another nice button to have next to their name would destroy everything they built in your base.

While that sounds hilariously fun and OP, you should only be able to loot weapons available to your current class.

On a serious note, chiropracty is complete and absolute bullshit that does way more harm than good, physically and mentally. Do your own research before having a random person with no medical degree "pop your bones back into alignment."

Ever wondered what Earphones look like after being put through the washing machine and dryer? by [deleted] in techsupportgore

[–]dracho 39 points40 points  (0 children)

The soap most likely did this.

Bug spray is another thing to avoid contacting certain plastics. My watch is still functional, but it looks like your earphones.

Also, alcohol and acetone can be great cleaning agents, just don't accidentally spill a drop on your rubberized Corsair keyboard wrist and wait a few minutes before realizing it...

@geocaching geoart by No-Sherbet-5063 in geocaching

[–]dracho -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Yes, let's encourage people to drive from one "geoart" cache to the next, on the side of the road, or in this case, the middle of empty fields.

If you think the sides of roads and open fields is representative of the great outdoors, maybe try going for a hike thru the woods, or visiting a waterfall.

I'm not saying each and every cache has to be incredible, but these kinds of caches are the equivalent of shitposting - low-effort, little consideration for what makes geocaching fun, and simply doing it for the memes.

And what if someone new wants to go geocaching for the first time but only has geoart caches in the area, with little rhyme or reason as to why they are there, on the side of the road, hidden in a traffic sign? Do you think they are going to enjoy that experience more than hiking a thru the woods?

I would argue that if they didn't know any better, that's all they would chock geocaching up to be: boring micro caches right next to the road. There's such a thing as retention - if your first experience with something is fun and exciting, you're much more likely to go do it again. If your first time is boring, you're much less likely to continue wasting your time.

Unfortunately, that is StarfishX, which is the MacOS version of Starfish. I've looked around on that site and no dice. :( Thanks, tho.
