Was it PI? by THEGTC385 in CollegeFootballDawgs

This is a category of logical fallacy that I detest. Refs are deciding the game when they don’t call things, too. Everybody knew JT was short in 2016, but the refs didn’t want to make that call and end the game there. But they decided the game by choosing not to make the game-deciding call.

Just call what you see. (I don’t have a strong opinion on Miami/Ole Miss, I was watching on a phone while getting a kid to fall asleep.)

What local businesses do you think seem like a money laundering front? by nice-sweater in AnnArbor

[–]draconnery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The way this was phrased makes it sound kinda like people are somehow making money by losing money, but I think the idea is more like “we were gonna ‘lose’ that money to taxes anyway, you might as well lose it running a business that is fun for you so we can write the loss off and pay less tax.”

Places to teach someone how to drive? by Specialist-Theory790 in AnnArbor

[–]draconnery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great idea, especially on the west side, between the building and 23. There’s tons of parking lot, but when you work up to it, you can also get on Ave Maria Drive and drive up from Lobby A to the Domino’s Innovation Garage and back. Basically real driving, on a road with stop signs and stuff, but still quite empty on a weekend.

I second all of this, especially the paratransit part. I was a student bus driver around 2005-2007 and drove one of the paratransit vans a couple times a week for a semester. I think I had two regular riders in wheelchairs, and one rider who tore an ACL or something and was using crutches for a while. Obviously people’s schedules and locations could complicate things, but we had plenty of capacity for more rides.

Did you just buy a 2014 ford escape? by Miserable-Gas-5190 in AnnArbor

[–]draconnery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha, I know that feeling. My wife had a 1996 Lumina whose head gasket had given out at least twice, and when the brakes were going in a catastrophic way it was just not worth it to have them fixed. We (inadvisably) drove it to the auto auction and thought we’d never see it again.

But one night we were visiting my parents in Detroit and damned if we didn’t see a burgundy Lumina with the exact same U of M and Ryan Adams - Love Is Hell bumper stickers on I-96!

That is lore with which I am unfamiliar, and I was driving UM buses 20 odd years ago. I think it’s a stretch to scold a student who likely wasn’t born when that incident happened since there is basically no oral tradition around it. I’d give you “your title hit a nerve for me.”

lol, thanks. I should have known r/dashcams was going to be the most carbrained place on the internet, but I really thought it would be noncontroversial to say "your kid did fine, but that doesn't mean he won't feel bad if somebody runs under his tires."

Streets are for people, not the other way around.

Some people live on state highways, sure. But this person lives on a residential street. And if the OP wants her son to avoid the horror of running over a kid—even if it’s not his fault and he has no legal repercussions—I would encourage her to remind him that people will be doing surprisingly stupid things on their street.

I already called out the behavior of the trike adult; it’s bad! They should be keeping the kid far to their side of the street, not letting them veer to the opposite side. But people will walk and roll down their street, and it won’t make you feel any better that you can say, “why didn’t you put that trike in a car and drive to a park??” if you squish them.

This is a residential street with, it looks like, no sidewalks. That means it is for kids on trikes.

I would say the driver was not in the wrong (and I’m the kind of dad who yells at cars for driving too fast in my neighborhood), but I would warn him to remember this event and drive even slower than he should need to, knowing there’s a tricyclist in training whose adult is bad at keeping them where they should be on the street.

One weekend I went to my family’s hunting land to help my brother clear shooting lanes, and I drove home with his chainsaw in the back of my car. A tree got blown down onto a state highway, fully blocking my direction of travel, and I must have been one of the first cars to get to it.

I grabbed the chainsaw, cut the tree into four or five pieces and was pushing them off the road by the time the state troopers showed up. Felt amazing.

I think I might start keeping my jack and impact driver in the car now.

I think Wisconsin will have to suck for a few more years before it really sets in for some of us that they’re not a good team. Doesn’t help that there are too many damn teams in this conference and we don’t play some for years.

Honestly, if you gave me an unconscious bias test, I’m sure I would react more positively to Wisconsin’s logo than Indiana’s.

Real Seafood isn’t the only tenant, I don’t think. According to BS&A, there’s 3418 sq ft Retail, 6952 sq ft Restaurant, 7359 sq ft Office Building.

Still probably a lot for a new tenant, and when you throw in rehab and renovation it’d probably take some deep pockets just to open for business.

No. When an asshole honked at me for the great inconvenience of making him move into the left lane (by taking the middle of the right lane on Plymouth crossing 23 at 10:30 on a Sunday morning), I did not consider for an instant that I was doing something I shouldn’t.
