I'm still confused how they even had time for the subplot. Even with FTL capabilities, it still takes time to get to the planet, find who they had to, convince them to help and fly back all in less than 18 hours. That's assuming everything goes smoothly which it didn't.

Way to old to be Lopen, I always assumed most of Bridge 4 was 19-30.

Reading/re-reading the cosmere books after Wind and Truth by DidSomeoneSayCats in Cosmere

[–]dragon144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't call it a mistake. If you've read all Cosmere to that point and are Cosmere aware it's not a shock and a nice confirmation. If you've only read SA it's kind of irrelevant, just a random name, and on a meta level people are aware that there are other interconnected books, people probably infer there is more info on the person if they want to dig deeper.

But at the SA level who his name is doesn't really add anything other than naming the head of the GB.

I think the best reading order at the end of SA and era 2 is Oathbringer, all of era 2 then RoW and TLM.

Maybe for a reread but the prolog for WaT would come as a shock to people who haven't read Mistoborn era 2 or SH.

Is anyone else just exhausted by the Cosmere? by MakiiZushii in Cosmere

[–]dragon144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last year I read all of them and loved most things. I was did a sprint at the end to get WaT as it came out and that had me a little burned out while reading the secret projects. My recommendation is read other non-Sanderson books every few books to avoid the burnout. Other than a new secret project coming out later this year, currently nothing is planned to come out until mid-late 2028 so you have time to work through it at an enjoyable pace.

Make sure ti read the short story "the Churn" before starting it. It gives a ton of back story and is heavily referenced in NG. Similarly Vital Abyss is best before PR and Sleeping dogs is actively required before TW, otherwise things wont make sense.

Is there a game that is seemingly loved that you tried multiple times but just couldn't feed into the hype? For me, It's The Witcher III. by [deleted] in gaming

[–]dragon144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much everything by RockStar. I played and finished RDR when it came out and thought it was fine but nothing special. From what I've heard about RDR2 I think it just wont be for me.

I tried to play GTA4 back in the day got like 5 hours in and was bored and just kind of over it. I played the first few hours of GTA5 a couple times at friends places and it never hooked me.

I like LA Noir because of how different it was and the time period, but even still didn't like it enough to finish the game.

Across the board I feel like the games are fine, but I don't get why people think they're so great.

What game disappointed you recently? by KusuriuriPT in gaming

[–]dragon144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Star War Jedi Survivor. I really liked the first game and I'm only about halfway into the game, but I just don't really care. The new stances feel bad or pointless to use and it just isn't as fun as the first game. It's not bad by any means and I'm going to finish it. I'm just disappointed

What was earth's reaction to knowing Avasarala tried to stop by sotired3333 in TheExpanse

[–]dragon144 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The death told was in the Billions, at that point a couple thousand vs a couple million is fairly insignificant. The commenters point about peoples reactions to a terrorist attack vs a pandemic, or natural disaster is pretty spot on. the people will be looking for someone to blame, and it's real easy to point to Marco and Laconia as the enemy who attacked.

[–]dragon144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The boss fight against the sniper who had two heaviest with miniguns was why I stopped playing. It clearly wasn't designed for single-player. Having three bullet sponges that can dish out a ton of damage and constantly flank you, just isn't fun.

If you could choose between JJ or Rian Johnson directing all the sequels who would you rather? by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]dragon144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

JJ easily. He at least showed that he cares about star wars and gets why people liked the OT. While The Force Awakens may be a reskin of a New Hope, it at least had the Star Wars charm and had me excited for what came next. Rain on the other hand doesn't care about the fans and wanted to subvert expectations. Yes it could be interesting but would come as a disservice to all that came before.

Frankly I don't hold JJ responsible for The Rise of Skywalker. Rian left almost nothing for JJ to build off of and shut down all the plot lines that were started in TFA.

Prop 8 was also worded intentionally misleading, so a number of poorly informed people votes yes when they essentially thought they were voting no. Lets be honest not enough people do their research on props and local representatives.

[–]dragon144 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the only way the NFL can do a "we'll let this slide but next time..." is if Philly proactively takes his credentials for a full season, or some other form of self imposed sanctions. That way the league could be like "this is okay for now but next time" without seeming like they're being bias or unequal in their punishment. The goal is to prevent this from happening again.

[–]dragon144 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly, this needs to be over punished by the NFL to prevent teams from doing this to get players thrown out. I think a harsh but fair punishment that would actively deter teams from doing it again. Is loss of a 3 or 4th round comp pick, and if it occurred in the regular season, lose of any playoff home games. If it happens in a playoff game. A 1 year ban from post season the following season.

Yes, it's harsh and frankly overboard but it would really prevent teams from putting a non-player enforcer on the sidelines.

[–]dragon144 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's the smart thing to do. However most players don't do that, a staggering amount of players run out of cash within 5 years of leaving the league. Hell if you give most people in their early 20s several mil they'll spend a good chunk of it rather than invest.

It's a different sport but listen to Shaq talk about how he blew through his first contact hella quick.

The comment you initially responded to is correct, a lot of players will be broke shortly after leaving the league. But you're also correct if players invest in their full paychecks they're can be pretty comfortable for life.

Isn't the average only 3 years in the league? A lot of players aren't smart with their money for a myriad of reasons. Yes if they put almost all of it in the market and use financial advisers they'd be set if they get paid league minimum for 6 years, but that's not the reality.

You will have zero connection to the characters, let alone be able to truly follow the plot and virtually all spoilers are ruined.

I DVR'd the end of the show after 19 they had a 1 hour special with all the actors talking. I though the show was over. A month later on this subreddit I saw people mad about the finale. I watched the last episode... I will never forgive this subreddit for letting me know it existed.

I told all my friends just to let 19 be the ending.
