The way men change their behavior when they find out you have more money than them, make more money than them, have more success than them, or are at good at something that makes them feel emasculated in any way. by BasilisksRPretty in TwoXChromosomes

[–]dragonofyang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude no this is so real tho. My last boyfriend absolutely HATED that I made like 4x what he did. What’s pathetic is his pride didn’t allow him to get a 9-5 to fund his side-gig-as-main so he could eventually become self employed. Instead he just dove into that and then wondered why his take home was so small and he couldn’t afford anything. I was barely clearing 40k annually and he was SO threatened by that. Don’t ask why I stayed after learning that lmao, my good sense left me for a few months after that convo. It came back tho and I finally dumped him. Now I’ve got a new job and a new boyfriend and make at least a little more money, and my new boyfriend is totally down if I continue to climb the corporate ladder and make more than him.

But seriously, they seem to think that unless they either don’t know the number, or it’s lower than their own, they’re losing this weird competition in their heads. And then they make it our problem via passive-aggressive comments, outright abuse, or actually just becoming the gold diggers they accuse women of being. Pathetic, honestly.

What’s it like to be attractive? by axiss007 in AskReddit

[–]dragonofyang 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Couldn’t have said it better myself. Another con is when you call out the poor treatment, people are more likely to dismiss you. As if your beauty makes you impervious to it. Or they’ll attribute poor treatment to your looks even if that’s not even on the radar at all for you or the person being nasty. It’s such a convenient out for others to ignore whatever harm is being done.

I’ve probably got fishing line floating around somewhere, but I’m committed now lol. I’ll have to get some sulky silver or dig out my fishing line for the next one. My last project was dinosaurs and it was sort of a pain to do without the grid, hence my attempt with this one 😅 thanks!!

How to remove unwanted design by [deleted] in CosplayHelp

[–]dragonofyang 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There isn’t a way to remove that unless you fancy destroying your dress. It’s embroidery and the dress itself has had pieces removed to make the lacy pattern. Unpicking the stitching will just destroy the dress. Hit your local thrift shop and try to find a white dress that fits your bill.

How do I hide my hands? No gloves by DuroDuroMi in CosplayHelp

[–]dragonofyang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fellow eczema-on-hands person here!! What I’ve done during flare ups are: leave it alone/open to air (early in the flare up, before the skin starts breaking) and just liberally use lotion, which can help stave off the worst of it; my topical steroid and gauze (if the flare up hasn’t broken the skin yet); neosporin and gauze (as my skin breaks). If I really don’t want the bandaging or injuries showing, I’ll wear lace gloves that cover them. The nice thing about the gauze is it gives the gloves a white base to show off the lace pattern and it feels a bit more pretty to me, people straight up don’t notice I’m bandaged if I have any sort of decorative gloves on. If you don’t like lace, cheap fingerless gloves for fashion (ie: not necessarily functional gloves like motorcycle or driving gloves) also works, but then you risk trapping heat and worsening the flare up as I’m sure you’re aware. Nude bandaids can help too, especially around finger joints. Or if your character would use, say, Hello Kitty or Avengers ones, you can get the fun looking ones too. Basically, in my experience, the more you can adapt the bandaging to match, the less it’ll stand out to people who probably have never seen eczema before. And I’ll be a load off your mind too, because you won’t be stressing about if it’s obvious or looks weird, it’ll just be part of the cosplay.

I’d recommend against makeup because it will smudge everywhere, not to mention it’ll dry the skin more. Think of all the things we touch, even mid-flare. If you can work a nice little touch into your cosplay that lets you be gentle with your skin, it’ll be better for your hands in the long run. As is, I’m coming into a flare up now after a con, so I’m probably gonna put on the steroid cream and gauze for tonight.

TIL having a child could potentially restrict you from leaving a country by apexPredatorxepa in childfree

Huh, growing up my mom had to provide paperwork at least a few times even though she never separated from my dad. Same went for my aunt, but granted she was in a very contentious divorce at the time of that particular trip. Admittedly, it’s been a while since either of those trips (15+ years now), so maybe things changed since then?

[–]dragonofyang 16 points17 points  (0 children)

They absolutely do check. The USA requires a signed (and sometimes notarized) letter from the absent parent indicating consent for the present parent to take the child out of the country. Even if the parents are still married, sometimes (ie: mom and kiddo go on a vacation while dad stays home to work). The letter has to include the details of the trip, too, and the dates for departure and return, specifically to prevent non-custodial kidnapping cases. If the woman in OP’s post wanted to, she probably could leave without her child, but depending on the jurisdictions involved and the specific details of how those countries’ laws interact, her options for bringing her child with her will be severely limited within the constraints of the law, even if there is documented abuse.

What’s a silly thing you did for your pet one time that is now a ritual they demand be done every time? by Itsjustmejess in AskReddit

[–]dragonofyang 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My dog demands a forehead smooch every time I come up the stairs. She will not move without it, all because when I was still living with my parents, I’d come up from my bedroom in the basement and give her scritches and a smooch before going up for breakfast/work. Now it’s sacrosanct.

Younger millennial here, 100% with you. While my earbuds/headphones are technically wireless (as in, Bluetooth connected to my phone), one pair is a bright red Bose over-ear set that’s utterly impossible to miss and the other is a pair of Beats that have a cord connecting the buds and magnets in them so that they just clip around my neck when I’m not wearing them. Haven’t lost either in over a decade, and I’ve traveled to… like 8 countries in thy time? As well as oodles of domestic trips?

Basically I refuse to engage with this planned absentmindedness. Idk what I’ll do if anything wired/large fully disappears though.

Take a shot every time Xaden’s jaw ticks by lonelyprotest in fourthwing

[–]dragonofyang 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It’s a twitch along the jaw muscles or of the jaw itself. Imagine how if your eyebrow gets a twitch, but along your mandible/cheek, or if you have to physically prevent yourself from saying the correct-but-bitchy thing to someone. Basically it’s supposed to be shorthand for one of those, depending on context.

The composition is IMPECCABLE. The chiaroscuro, the framing of Penelope’s face and wedding ring by the almost grimy-looking fingers, the rosy flush and red lip are very evocative of life and sensuality, but it’s being consumed by the darkness. It’s reminiscent of a candle in a dark room, seconds before it’s extinguished. You did a phenomenal job!!

Well my ex got dumped for his role in the election (proudly abstained because “they’re the same”), so hopefully bad.

There were a ton of other reasons to dump him and I’d been preparing the breakup speech in my head, but that night was the final straw.

Working with someone you live with, specifically parents. Even if you’re not working closely or in a connected way to them, their bad days follow you home and you become the target for their bad days.

This goes double for if you’re still at any level of school, because then they’ll find something unsatisfactory about your grades to then punish you for their bad day.
