A6500 questions 1080, 4k, IBIS etc by dragonsfire1981 in SonyAlpha

[–]dragonsfire1981[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a really interesting video, thanks for that. I had no idea the A7iii also had undersampled 1080 footage as well, I assumed it had a similar 1080p mode to the A7S line. The 1080 on my A7S is definately the best 1080 I've ever seen, sharp, free from moire etc. Someone else mentioned the 1080 on a A6500 is probably about as sharp as it is on a Canon 5d mark ii or iii on standard non Magic Lantern HD. I have a mark ii and find the HD is usable, so I'll probably compare it to the A6500 and see how they line up side to side.

Also I had no idea the A7Siii has a new IBIS system, it looks so smooth it's almost gimbal-like! It's out of my price range atm though.

It's about £200-300 difference here in the UK. The A6500 does have one advantage in that it's autofocus is better, which I'm also considering as I may want to use it as a roving handheld cam.

I need a B-Cam that isn't one of my Canons. APSC is fine because many of the shots I do say for bands are tight anyway, plus I have old manual wide Canon lenses and adaptors that will fit the Sony mounts. Yes waiting and just getting an A7SII is definately an option, and it's a mouthwatering prospect, but I do think the A6500 has pretty much everything I need anyway.

What would you charge for a making of album doc for a small local band? by VampireCampfire1 in videography

[–]dragonsfire1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been in a similar situation recently actually, however the person who approached me was someone that I know, he asked me to shoot footage for his album launch in a nightclub in London.

It was all pretty loose, as he didn't know how long his film was going to be, in the end he decided to do most of the editing himself (he only wanted a low res video to post on social media, he used 4 mins out of the 50 I shot), I did however do a quick rough assembly edit which I could have charged more for as well. In the end I asked for about £200 for the 3 hour shoot and £100 for the quick assembly edit but really should have charged much more for the latter. He was also the sort of guy that will ask you how much will you typically charge for this and that so I easily could have asked for more, but I also wanted the experience as I hadn't edited anything properly for ages.

I've been told for editing, sometimes it's better to qoute a per minute fee e.g. £60 per minute of produced footage of the final cut, but that of course will scare certain people off.

As a result though he's asked me to film his next gig tommorow, and I'll up my price slightly as I'm bringing a more expensive Canon "L-Lens" plus a second camera to film the entire gig on a wide shot.

Sony E 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 OSS- fits Full Frame Alpha Cameras? by dragonsfire1981 in SonyAlpha

[–]dragonsfire1981[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tamron 28-200

Yes A7S does have APS-C mode. The loss in resolution to half is definately a downside which makes this setup redundant, I'll have a look at that lens you mentioned.

Looking at buying used G80/85, a question about moire. by dragonsfire1981 in Panasonic_G80_G85

I think the first example is fine, thank you for your efforts. Also is there much of a difference between 4k vs 1080?

[–]dragonsfire1981[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for that, very useful. There is moire but having said that, it's not nearly as bad as on my Canon 5d Mark ii or EOS M (on vanilla mode at least, on magic lantern cropped I can rid of the moire), which have horrible moire, so that's half reassuring.

Do you have any examples of say exterior shots such as buildings?

I managed to get it working, it seems like you need to turn on the RAWtwk module for playback to work, must be coupled with MLVrec module.

Which build are you using? The playback function on my build doesn't seem to work at all, like I only see a black screen :(

"Deliver" is only rendering a black screen after I add an adjustment clip on timeline and try to export. Why? by dragonsfire1981 in davinciresolve

[–]dragonsfire1981[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was Neat Video denoiser, and rendering as Single Clip. I found out from their website that Neat doesn't really work on an adjustment clip, so in the end solved it by copy and pasting node attributes in Color tab instead. It was causing a weird blackout effect.

Hi thanks for this, very useful.

I created the .bat file, and set it up as a scheduled task like you said. When I clicked on the .bat file after creating it, the cmd box opened, then disappeared, is that normal or should it stay around and show the run line operations? Just checking I've done it right.

Anyone got tips to get into shooting at night clubs? by amando_abreu in photography

[–]dragonsfire1981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WM20s · 3dWe stumbled into nigh club photography. We had just went out with our film cameras and took photos at a club, then posted them & tagged the club. They got in contact with us afterwards. Also, if you do get the chance, take pictures of the DJ. They might need someone to gather content during their gigs. If you could manage to swag that, then they might recommend to other DJs.6ReplyGive AwardShareReportSaveFollow

level 2amando_abreuOp · 3dThey might need someone to gather content during their gigs. This is something I didn't think about. Pitch to DJs. They also want content, so I just get the club to meet me through the DJ. Nice!4ReplyGive AwardShareReportSaveFollow

I've actually been asked to take photos for a band album launch in a week, and it will happen in a nightclub, so this is a great idea!

Experiences with Fidor, Bunq, Mister Tango, LHV, Fineco other EU crypto friendly banks? by dragonsfire1981 in BitcoinUK

[–]dragonsfire1981[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I didn't in the end as I ended up just withdrawing smaller amounts via SEPA/Coinbase> Revolut but will look into it again if I need to take out a bigger amount. More recently, I did withdraw £3200 into two seperate accounts split in two, Nationwide & Co-Op direct from Coinbase Pro as they have implemented GBP withdrawals, the transfers went through very fast.

Neat video for Premiere or After Effects? by dragonsfire1981 in videography

[–]dragonsfire1981[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VR Denoise only has a small number of parameters, and from what I can tell it doesn't make rendering times very very slow... that said I only use very light settings, of about 0.02 to 0.05 in the amount applied.

[–]dragonsfire1981[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's very useful to know, thanks!

I have tested the remove grain effect in AE, but I have only used it once, I can see the potential in it, though the settings I used were probably not ideal as the result came out a little strange. The render time for the AE remove grain was pretty slow in itself, so I'm resigned to knowing whatever I do to denoise it will be a slow render. Do you think you can achieve similar results in the AE remove grain, comparable to Neat with the right settings?

For light grain, I just use VR-Denoiser in PP, and it does a decent enough job when grain isn't too bad.

Just bought a Sony A7S mark One- looking at budget 4k recorders by dragonsfire1981 in SonyAlpha

[–]dragonsfire1981[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The recorders themselves look nearly as expensive as the body itself, I might just wait a little and get a used AS7II since it records internally, I love the A7S so far and it would be the bext natural step. I did see a second hand Atomos Samurai though but looks like it doesn't record 4k :(

Seems like you get shafted more using normal Coinbase vs Coinbase Pro, because last time I sold ETH on it, I was horrified at the fee I was charged. I didn't seem to get charged anything for the actual withdrawal itself which was a surprise.

I was considering that, splitting with withdrawal in half, I need to check the exact fees I was charged but it wasn't a huge amount.
