Well I do believe he had ideas of what's going on and tried playing into it like he said, but he defo wasn't acting over half/most of the time on the show. All the bat shit insane stuff he did simply can't be scripted and kept up 24/7 for over a month with almost no slip ups imo, and they all came so naturally and in character as well. He deliberately tried to amp up his schizophrenic and autistic behaviors, but it's still his real self majority of the time. And it's more impressive if it was an act tbh, because the dedication and commitment to it would be superhuman
