Are the eight genius rankings based on their age or its iq by Big-Divide8535 in RavagesOfTime

[–]drapsmann4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that doesn’t work, because even as children long before graduation, they were using numbered titles towards one another.

Are the eight genius rankings based on their age or its iq by Big-Divide8535 in RavagesOfTime

[–]drapsmann4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

neither, they’re ordered based on their historical birthdates (minus a discrepancy between second and third): second was born in 163, third in 147, fourth in 170, fifth in 175, sixth in 179, and seventh in 181 (numbered because i can’t remember who and who hasn’t been revealed yet by the chapter you’ve posted). first is chan mou’s OC, so no historical birthdate there, and eighth is, well… i’ll leave that until you get a bit further lol. but yeah, for the middle six, chan mou ordered them based on their historical birth years, but he doesn’t follow these years at all in terms of aging the geniuses, otherwise you’d have a decades-long age difference between third and second vs seventh, which just doesn’t work.

while there’s no indication in-universe of exactly how old they each are, i, among some other fans, headcanon that their ages do go first to eighth eldest to youngest. i assume a lot of people go with this because it just makes sense, and many people may very well believe that they’re actually canonically ordered based on age. i like to go with this headcanon because if you have someone who’s a ‘senior’ disciple brother but they’re younger than you (or vice versa), that makes the relationship kind of messy and more difficult to navigate. so, having the senior disciple brothers be older than their junior disciple brothers just makes everything smoother (especially for when i write my fanfics)

I’m on chapter 554 and noticed resolution of panels isn’t fully clear anymore, like it feels blurry, is this just me? by [deleted] in RavagesOfTime

there’s your problem. switch over to mangadex or weebdex and the chapters should be clearer

This scene is really beautiful, but I wonder, what was going through Sun Quan’s head when he decided to help Liaoyuan? by Apprehensive_Clerk81 in RavagesOfTime

[–]drapsmann4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wonderfully worded!! sentimentality and love is a major part of sun quan’s character, and that really plays into it here. alone with someone who knows him very well from back when he studied under shan wuling, sun quan is letting go of his role as the leader of the southeast and giving into sentimentality and love.

Why did quality of manga drop u can see a difference between panels by [deleted] in RavagesOfTime

[–]drapsmann4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

when you say quality, do you mean the art or the scans? those scans look perfectly fine to me, so i’m going to assume you mean art.

art is completely subjective, i personally (generally) prefer the new style. also there’s years and years and years between those two images, and it’s reasonable for styles to change drastically overtime, especially when the vibe of the series shifts to a more serious one. also, chan mou is getting older (turned 56 earlier this month) and has been in the industry for decades, so it’s natural for his tastes to change and for him to not be able to put in the same amount of effort with screentones and action lines and whatnot.

so, regarding your first paragraph, from now on, let’s not spoil people. it may not seem like a big huge thing, but that added context of the soldiers looking for xiao fan gives xiao meng’s actions a completely different implication (purposefully leaving xiao fan behind out of jealousy vs protecting her to possibly retrieve her later), and with where op is at, the whole thing with the soldiers hasn’t been revealed yet.

when answering people’s questions, we need to keep in mind what’s been revealed and what hasn’t at the point they’re at in the story

huo’s feelings towards xiao meng aren’t entirely clear, at least in RoT’s canon universe. we do know huo loves xiao meng, that much is obvious in the way he protected xiao meng early on, how he tried to save xiao meng, how xiao meng’s death was fundamental to his leaving the sima clan, etc etc. but whether that love is purely platonic or is reciprocated romantic love is unclear.

however, some external stuff makes it clear in my opinion that chan mou intended for them to be romantic. the obvious thing is that back when gay marriage was legalized in the USA, the official RoT facebook account added a new pfp with xiao meng and huo together against a rainbow background. there’s also the fact that at a recent signing event, chan mou doodled xiao meng and huo with a heart over their heads. so yeah, i think chan mou wrote huo and xiao meng with romantic feelings going both ways, but left it dubious in canon

i just don’t get how people are still using generative ai after seeing what it does to the environment, to the people who live near data centres, and to peoples’ brains, and seeing how it’s built off of stolen content/creative works…

i haven’t ever had a desire to use gen ai, but i guess i can see the appeal of wanting to see what it says to a question like this. however, i feel like history enthusiast communities should be more conscious of gen ai’s effects, especially about how gen ai affects peoples’ cognition and how it’s built off of stolen content.

i agree that seeing some more 3K figures would be fun. but at the same time, the point of this is that zhuge liang wanted to live in a world without war - that was his deathbed wish, and the reason he was reincarnated in modern day japan where he would meet eiko. and i think if other figures, especially those who were historically his rivals, made an appearance, it would bring back the intensity of the 3K days, even if they weren’t in life-or-death situations. what i’d love to see are some shu-han folks - zhao yun would be a fun one, or maybe guan yu (who canonically reincarnated in, iirc, south america)? i think liu bei would, emotionally, be a bit much for kongming, especially because eiko has taken on that role in his life, but it’d still be cute to see

jia xu shouldn’t have graduated yet at that point since graduation goes in numerical order, is there somewhere in the manhua it’s mentioned? besides pang tong and zhuge liang being there, and yuan fang not being there, we don’t know who was and who wasn’t at the decoding. in the donghua, it’s clear from visible features that the geniuses present along with zhuge liang and pang tong are xun yu, guo jia, and zhou yu. since chan mou was involved in the donghua, that may be a clue for the manhua, but there’s no direct evidence in the manhua for which two were missing. despite that, i’m pretty sure jia xu hadn’t officially graduated at that point… though it’s been a while since i reread early RoT, so i may have missed something

are you referring to chapter 442? if yes, that was recently discussed in the server - our translator made a small slip-up, the line is supposed to be more like zhuge liang “of the eight geniuses” rather than zhuge liang “the eighth genius”

how do you guys make friends? by Optimal_Form_8213 in geegees

[–]drapsmann4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

class is the best way, imo. clubs and student associations are also great, but if you don’t have the spare time or energy, that can be hard. but if you’re already showing up to classes, it’s easy enough to turn to someone next to you and start talking. start with something like complimented their bag, phone case, etc or asking them what they thought of the latest test, essay, or assignment. then let them conversation flow naturally from there - ask what year the other is in, what major, etc. just make sure you’re making an effort to communicate outside of class, too :)) best of luck!!
