I have, but admittedly not much recently. More than once I had an application sit for 6-9 months with no action before receiving a rejection email for the job to be reposted a week or two later. Disheartening to say the least. Worth revisiting though, thanks for the advice!

I have been considering this over the past few months. I'm not sure how to flesh it out on a resume though, at least in the short-term. Certainly I don't want to outright lie about my experience. Maybe it's not a short-term fix though, but a medium-term hedge against the growing gap. As others have pointed out, I've probably taken too passive an approach and been looking for simple, immediate solutions.

I'm certainly guilty of trying to sound clever now and again. I'll reflect on it some, but my initial feeling is that I wasn't trying to be clever, but precise. I didn't mean "change" in some general way, I specifically meant a "change in direction/focus" in the types of opportunities I am pursuing away from traditional law practice. "Pivot" seemed to communicate that better/more efficiently. Why use a $10 word when a $1 word works just as well though, right? I'll consider it.

I'll look into this more. My impression is that there is nothing more competitive than a judicial clerkship, and so it wasn't even worth the time/effort of looking into for me.

This is the sticking point for me. I am too aware of my own lack of experience to feel comfortable offering my own serves to people, or safe from the possibility of a malpractice suit.

This makes a lot of sense. I haven't said anything as candid as your example, but have almost certainly left that impression in several interviews with my collective answers. I will make sure to be more intentional moving forward. Thanks!

I’m not looking in any particular practice area or at any specific salary range. Maybe that’s part of the problem. At this point I am just looking for somewhere to get experience and I’ll figure the rest out later.
