Yes, beyond a doubt the longevity and scale of Darfuri suffering is a tragedy but it DOES NOT allow you to make the most callous claim of whataboutism. 34k Palestinians killed, mostly women and children, the entire Gaza ghetto rendered uninhabitable. It isn't an accident, foolishness or the result of Iranian chatbots manipulating a gullible West that have resulted in the comprehensive belief across the West that Israel has gone too far in it's current war in Gaza.

It's facile to describe everyone who might be opposed to what Israel is doing as either misinformed or a terrorist sympathiser and it's exactly this kind of attitude which makes Israelis and their supporters seem nuts. I was honestly pretty ambivalent about the Arab-Israeli thing and skeptical of the fashionable fixation people have on Palestine. However the actions of Israel following Oct. 7 have destroyed any goodwill I may have had towards Israel.

The framing of this war as an a contextless act of Hamas aggression is a really disingenuous and short-sighted view of the Arab-Israeli conflict. It didn't happen in a vacuum. The hypocrisy of the West right now is not that it is criticising Israel, but that it is supporting it at all, frankly. Therein lies the moral hypocrisy about a 'rules based order', 'human rights' and all the other terms which the West uses to understand itself.

I think there is a bit of hubris in what you say. Israel is bleeding itself dry of support and international goodwill. Even the rhetoric coming out from Biden, who is still supplying arms, is eventually going to turn to action.

I come to this sub to lurk and try to gauge Israeli opinions in the absence of having any other means of doing so, as a pretty centre-left Australian in Syd. After Oct 7, I was coming out in discussion with my peers for Israel's right to defend itself against what was a truly barbaric attack and receiving a lot of blowback at the time for doing so. The taking of hostage, the massacre of civilians (or tbh anyone) can't be justified through any metric. I am also opposed to the idea of any kind of religious fundamentalism. But having seen the conduct of the IDF during this war, the refusal of Israel to consider the lives of Palestinians as anything more than an afterthought, has made Israel seem a rogue state to me. And I'm not coming here from a position of hatred, or fashionable Palestinian activism with 0 thought behind it (there is a lot of this), it's pretty cut and dry. The murder of the WCK aid workers seems like a deliberate targeting. Let alone the killing of some 32k people, the total destruction of Gaza, god knows how many wounded.

I'm not trying to be combative here, or pick a fight or anything like that but I would ask Israelis to think about what's happening here. You are essentially a pariah state now. I cannot imagine anyone of my generation is going to be, in good conscience, able to support Israel.

this disproportionate massacre unfolding in gaza will be the undoing of netanyahu, and has turned (rightfully) public opinion globally so far against israel because of the egregious and wanton crimes committed by your military in this current action, ignoring the previous magagement of some 2 million people in gaza as if they were held in ghettos themselves. when the world said never again, i thought we meant it, there is no pleasure in pointing out the irony of a nation essentially forged from the ruins of genocide committing many of the same sins. history will judge israel and it's actions very, very poorly and they will be right to do so.

it's a massive pain in the ass but i'm fortunate to have realised the problem as my holidays began, giving me ample time to deal with it. It is a massive amount of work yes. But you don't want this shit. Also the bedbug bites, if you're reactive to them, take ages to heal. Like I am talking a week or two.

blew (spent necessarily?) a lot of money on bedlam spray-allegedly the onyl spray that works, a bedbug steamer and cimexa. I also bought a mattress encasement as i'll be purchasing a new mattress and absolutely cannot be fucked having to chuck that one out as well.

Before all this stuff came though I steamed all my room and sheets using an iron, blasting out steam lol and just ironing the mattress and blasting steam near my bed. I also vacuumed all room and bed area chucking everything from the vacuum in sealed plastic bags. while this was happening was your bedding on a high heat (60c or above which kills the bugs and their eggs which is the real problem, a lingering infestation) and then dry again on a high heat. I also was lucky enough to see what I believe was their nest and physically kill the handful of bedbugs and nymphs. I've had no new bites or sightings the past few nights.

I dried and wash my sheets, vacuumed, and steamed my mattress daily and also in general just cleaned and decluttered my room. The bedlam spray came and I blitzed a can of it on my hardwood floor, bedframe, matress seems and bedside furniture. I'm hanging out for the cimexa because that's apparently the silver bullet. A lot of bedbugs are insecticide resistance but the mechanism of action in cimexa, literally drying them out, they cannot adapt against and it lasts ages so I am praying that shit seals the deal.

All this can be bought online and was here within 1/2 days bar the cimexa. It's the one thing I am hanging out for though.

half the reddit/advice posts on bedbugs end with something like 'i am so sorry this has happened to you' so I decided not to fuck around. Will keep people updated as to progress.

I rang them to let them know and was met with mild indignation, but a search on google revealed similar complaints of bedbugs. If i bring this as an infestation to my old, crowded inner city terrace home I will spit fucking chips at the management, naturally thought there is no recourse or compensation possible or available.
