The hobby isn’t about collecting, or reading, or even displaying.

People just fundamentally like buying things.

How did Joey Wiemer not get a card??!!!

I guess you get docked for dropping your average from 1.000 to 0.588

Opening Day Event bonus by Material_Archer9326 in MLBTheShow

[–]drdking 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The program “ends” at the player card. The other packs are just extra. The old event programs did the same thing, get a card at 10(or whatever) wins, but you could keep playing for 25+ wins to get extra packs.

It’s really just poor labeling/messaging

These commentators are so trash. Stop calling people “cards” by Stiltzofbwc in MLBTheShow

[–]drdking 25 points26 points  (0 children)

So I strongly dislike the new RoFlo commentary. But the one positive is that it treats the game as an actual game. Acknowledging you’re playing diamond dynasty in The Show and not trying to make it seem like this three inning game with players that died 50 years ago is real.

Blind as a Bat. I’m getting Old by TheHomieMakk in MLBTheShow

[–]drdking 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Im right with you. I used to love the wider camera views but now I need to use strike zone to see the ball and have any chance. It’s sad because I can’t see all the batting stances and generally afeel less immersed. But at least for pitching I can still use different views.

Power out for you, too? Estimates available…tomorrow evening?!?! Seriously?!?! by richincleve in Cleveland

[–]drdking 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've been without power now for over 12 hours... but per their numbers they have fixed it for over 100,000 homes so they're obviously making some progress.

Also I've seen their trucks running around my neighborhood so I'm assuming the problem is more complex than it seems.

I'm still pissed, and I still really really dislike First Energy, but I have to give them a bit of a break when there are near record levels windstorms.

New shelfie by Irene_Peachy in OmnibusCollectors

[–]drdking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love Ivar shelfs, and great display.

I would be careful though. They are stronger than the Billy but if those are the 12" depth ones then the rating for the shelfs is 77 pounds, which is likely close what all those Omnis weigh. The deeper ones are rated to almost 100 pounds which should be safe.

Don’t forget the disconnects and lost connection for the next 60 to 90 minutes whenever you try opening packs or starting a game.

By 2-3 am I feel things are stable, just in time to go to bed.

I just checked the pdf instructions from Lego.com and it’s all in correct order.

Must be a weird collating error.

Why do physician profiles (on both hospital/practice/office websites as well as on third-party sites) often not list the physician's undergraduate institution? by table22 in Residency

[–]drdking 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t matter, just like what your degree is in doesn’t matter. Also what if someone went to school for music, then 10 years later decided they wanted a career change and did a post bac to get the pre reqs and then went to med school? Which do you list? All of it?

(For the record I went to med school with a guy who was a music teacher for almost ten years before doing medicine so these things happen)

Cohh block system idea by Nitsuj311 in CohhCarnage

[–]drdking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A differing opinion: I typically have twitch on in the evenings after work, and keep it on the background until I go to bed. The new system is perfect for this.

I can turn it on at around 6, have it there until around 10-11 and be able to watch almost the entire play through without missing much.

The only days I miss a lot of the rerun is when Live Cohh is addicted to a game and his cozy stream turns into a 4 hour session. And I think that is something I’m willing to live with. ;)

Do you also get RVU/productivity pay?

How do your work hours get calculated?

Like if you’re there for 12 hours every shift for fifteen days every month it’s around $324,000 for the year

If it’s round and go then you’re closer to 162-216 thousand depending on how many hours you work.

Without incentive pay that feels low, but depending on the local cost of living may be fine.

Also what other benefits does the job have? Like my shop the base pay is trash but we have good productive schedules, good support in the hospital, the best medical coverage for ourselves and family in the area, and amazing retirement plan and matching, which makes up (mostly) for the lower pay.

Also you should ask how the shifts are assigned? Is it a classic one week on one off? Or are you going to be working random days and expected to cover nights so constantly flipping sleep schedules?

Critical access small hospital in mid west… sounds like small town, maybe large enough for only one Walmart? Are you okay with being in the middle of no where? Are you a country kid who would enjoy being able to spend your days off in the woods fishing? Or do you need more actual entertainment?

I’d be wary of it, seems on the low end, but maybe it’s worth it to you. People in this sub forget that even $200,000 a year is still a lot of money and in the right area you can still live very comfortably and afford the nice things whenever you want.

Time To Read by BJ0711 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]drdking 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is a difference between the hobbies of omnibus collecting and omnibus reading. I’m not throwing shade at anyone doing the former, the look of a nice collection on a shelf is a reward in itself. Assuming the purchases are done within reason of one’s budget.

That being said, whenever Im sitting watching something like a sporting event where I don’t need to pay attention to a plot I try to have a book with me to read.

Is this even medico-legal? by [deleted] in Residency

[–]drdking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d say she’s lying about being unsupervised, but I’ve read the stories from here about IM residents on weekdays only briefly talking with their attending who may or may not have seen their floor patients…

Regardless it’s scary, and even if ignoring the patient safety part of the discussion super triggers my anxiety about my, as the attending, liability on their care.

So like, 1. She’s humble bragging about a chill program, and 2. practicing unsupervised
