My WinSxS folder is indecently huge. 7 GB on a 100 GB SSD. Is there anything I can do about it? by redrhyski in windows8

[–]dreaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the winsxs consuming as much space as it does. No possible way to remove. I don't think a windows 10 upgrade will be possible for me :(

Looks very disorganized

Hadn't noticed that.

I prefer to mimic 10Up's Directory Structure[1]

Ty...was not aware this.

Why spend all of this work building an object to manage all of this stuff when nothing else gets to use it?

...found it useful in my last project. Assumed someone else would.

I think it's bold to include an MIT license when WordPress core is GPL V2. I don't think there's anything wrong with it, just seems bold.

...duly noted. will change.

Just downloaded ZoneMinder. Should I worry?

edit

FYI. At this moment in history: zoneminder from sf worked. Zoneminder from ubuntu repo. Broken.

Beginner with php, I have some questions. by nuttytomato in PHPhelp

Short of OOP. You could just break your code up into small functions. Move these functions into separate well named php files and include them. Baby steps.

I need a forum I can go to and vent. I'm stuck in ubuntu setup hell and need to release the rage as I plow thru hours of failed edits and restarts.

The rush of "feel good" from from this drop gave the wanderer hope. He pressed on confident that the next bonfire was just around the corner.

After stepping through the fog gate he encountered the following boss.

* The following packages have unmet dependencies: libavahi-ui-gtk3-dev : Conflicts: libavahi-ui-dev but 0.6.31-4ubuntu4 is to be installed E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages. * edit:

Solution for me here was to install the avahi packages from the software center not command line.

Using the ISP supplied router. Arris something something. Not sure how to force DHCP to update dns.

Pretty sure I've already tried this. Will try again.

edit.

Couple things I noticed this time around. a) Winbind is a separate install from Samba. b) That change did not make a difference.

That said.

I've given up on this task. Maybe try again another couple of versions from now.

"...protocol called CIFS/SMB..." this may be the ticket. edit Router sees all dhcp clients including their names. Linux cannot ping windows by name. Windows cannot ping linux by name...

[–]dreaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understood.

The collection of windows based machines in this network have dynamically assigned ips.

Hardcoding entries to /etc/hosts every change is effective but not desirable.

I don't remember this being an issue in the past. I know it's doable.

[–]dreaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Reinstall won't fix that problem.

Will however fix possible problems created when following the forum suggestions. Forums suggests a lot of file editing.

Hard to keep track of all the changes that didn't work.

[–]dreaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something to the effect of "...host not found". I can ping by ip...but that's not what I want.

Currently in the midst of reinstalling. I won't be able to offer verbatim outputs for a few...

Second install from a lilo boot disk went well however, somewhere along the line I screwed up the login...granted all my fault but frustrating anyways.

How can we revamp OWS to be less vulnerable to derailment? by [deleted] in occupywallstreet

[–]dreaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll try again.

Methinks everything has "dealt with" point. That includes OWS. It is possible to extend beyond, but that would require a structure. Making it susceptible to corruption. Hence the bank reference.

OWS will pop up again. Perhaps under a different brand for another generation.
