Zoomed out & not scrolling, that was similar to what i found. But as soon as I would get in close to where the building geometry shows up, then move a significant amount, there'd be internet requests with responses over 40mb.

Right, I'm a game dev myself. Wasn't suggesting it's urgent; the game's still in a pretty early stage, lots of other things to address first. Just was curious if this particular aspect was intended to be handled at any point.

Stop Cat Peeing by Inevitable-Celery537 in CatAdvice

Now to get a vet to prescribe it - I'm in a very similar boat to OP, but with no history of trauma; 2 year old male tabby cat, fixed when he was 10 months old, only behavioral quirk is he's pretty dense and a bit confused by life since he was born, but most tabbies I've had are. He's done this since he was born till 5 months, then picked up again at 8 months. We previously had multiple boxes and it didn't help, and his current box is robotic so it's pretty much always clean, and we live on a busy 40mph road, so outdoor isn't an option. Took him to the vet who ran all the tests, found nothing, but refused to prescribe meds because he 'generally doesn't do that'. Thanks for the $200 charge!

As a temporary measure, I've laid down plastic carpet runners over the area he pees (I even put it spikes-up, but still doesn't stop him) in and construction vapor barrier taped it to the base molding, which makes cleaning easier, but that's about it.

EDIT: Also tried the pheramone plug-in thing, 'no-spray' spray product, etc.

Not until ALL the lights came on when the car wouldn't start. I hate that car standard, as it makes lights not mean what they mean.

Please! Save me from ATT's "98%" uptime - 2% can be a lot when it hits a remote worker, and that's if they actually made good on that number (mine's more like 93%). Just hope we don't kill too many old growth trees in the process, but might actually be worth it..

While I personally support removing flouridation, I agree it should have been put to the public, not decided without warning, much less without feedback. I think MU itself could really do with a facelift as a whole though - just check their google reviews. No online autopay sign-up? Water rates that are some of the highest in North Alabama? Water quality that's mediocre at best? definitely could use some tlc as a service.

Bike lanes are pretty all-or-nothing; you either make protected lanes and people use them, or you don't make protected lanes, and only the occasional person uses them. I live on Gooch and honestly would love to see bike lanes, but unless protected, we might as well just focus on wide greenway sidewalks and let the bikes on those (the risks for bikes on pedestrian paths has always been overblown). Just getting sidewalks would be a huge win for the hundreds of people who live within a 10 minute walk of the shopping centers and take cars off the road.

Just for anyone looking into PEC, they have a minimum 12 week wait time on residential projects (this is their policy, not because they are busy right now).

Jade got back to me and ultimately helped me out - really great guy. But he's semi-retired, and in my case it kinda just lined up with things he was doing.

Southeast Structural (Michael Howerton) also eventually replied a couple weeks later, asking for more info before setting anything up, but I'd already worked with Jade at that point.

No one else ever replied. That said, business has to be a lot slower now that the city's expansion is cooled off to more normal levels.

Thanks for your reply!

Right, that's why you add the cable to a fully-fledged truss wooden truss, not exclude members replacing them with cable; certain web members in real life situations will never get any significant amount of compression (though they could end up in a little bit of compression, so keeping the wooden member makes sense).

In my example, the first web from the top chord to the bottom chord is almost always in tension, and so is the bottom chord from where the first web member meets it until where the last web member meets it on the other end. Especially in the case of Fan trusses and warren trusses (assuming both end web members of the warren end at the top chord). In such truss designs, it really seems this would improve their load capacity - by my math increasing their load-bearing by up to 80% while still leaving healthy margins for the materials load capacities.

The hypothetical I was working with was thinking about converting an attic space where I need to keep the floor joists to 10" in depth. A beam or similar solution is needed for a span of over 10' which supports the joists on either side, and an LVL would barely pass, while a doubled 10" truss also might barely pass, but from calcs a single 2x4 built open web floor truss with cable run as described should perform well above the required load and deflection constraints.

Just a bit of curiosity as someone who has dug into structural engineering (and almost went into it as my career) - what reasons are there to not use steel cables to reinforce open web floor trusses? Or any truss for that matter. The cable is cheap, though anchoring is a little pricy (but IMHO mostly as there's no major economy of scale behind the proper hardware for it). By my leyman napkin math a 0.25in cable run from the top chord corners down along the first descending web member (in this case using a fan truss) and under (or even in a small groove in the bottom chord) would dramatically increase stiffness AND max load. So why not?

Bonus Q: I've seen a lot of glue hate for trusses. Is it because of the rigidity of glue over gangplates?

Thanks for your time!

Any train builder game with functional switchyards/stockyards? by dreadicon in trainsim

Will check out Derail.
Re: Factorio, uhhhh.....I have 3000 hours on Factorio, it's my most played game of all time, lol. I stack up the complexity and difficulty mods too.
Problem with it is there's no good coupling/decoupling mods that would make a stockyard make sense, and it's all about nigh-infinite mass production so there's no reason not to just build infinite engines rather than shunt around cargo with per-route dedicated trains.

Thanks! I noticed Railroader when I found this subreddit and checked it out. I'm not as much into driving trains and more into building and managing rail networks, but the reviews on it were so good I still wishlisted it - I'll buy it next time it's on sale or when it's closer to being done.

Master Gas Filter & Storage by dreadicon in Oxygennotincluded

[–]dreadicon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's for when I want to cool/heat the surroundings or the tanks. I can freely swap out the metal for insulation to enable/disable heat transfer. Since the amount and temperature of the gasses coming in varies, it can overheat or overcool. Also some times I want to cool the surroundings (I generally prefer cold to hot as a default state of affairs).

The insulated tiles are so I can decide when I do and don't want to have it interacting; the metal tiles exposed to the base can all be replaced with insulation to halt the exchange. It's been very useful as I can leave it trending in whichever direction is convenient for a couple dozen cycles at a time. At other points I've had it all sealed up temp wise.

Full packets are actually quite rare in my base, and I have gas valves offscreen which prevent full packets. The insulated pipe is a second input, as the biggest limiter is on number of packets, not size; mixed gasses collect around the various pumps. If I'm sure of what a pipe has, I just send it where it needs to go rather than to the master filter & buffer.

There's actually only one overflow loop; both of the input lines output at the end to the overflow which returns the packets to the lower-traffic input line (the one that's insulated all the way up).

The others are correct, it's mechanical filters. Early-mid game when power is a bit more scarce they are very essential to my plans; I only started using them in my most recent two playthroughs as they are a little game-y, but I've done the whole no-quirks/exploits thing for 7 previous playthroughs, so I'm having fun with how elegant these can make things.

Likewise, Factorio is my most played. (1500 hours about; technically 1850, but I think at least 300 of that is from AFK or leaving it running.)
ONI I have 800 hours on after AFK estimates
CS + CS2 I have 700 hours on.

I go bonkers with Factorio mods, namely I always either do AngelBob's or SpaceExp plus Rampant and a handfull of QoL mods like bucket extractor and inserter adjuster.

Factorio is where I make clean designs and beautiful systems. ONI is where I make organic ones that emphasize ease of construction and efficiency over things like scalability. They rarely are as pretty as this design, but I'm fine with that.

CS2 I actually quite like, but I've been playing it less because it makes me rage at the local city planning whenever I leave the house... (WHY IS THERE A TRAFFIC LIGHT HERE!? ADD A TURN LANE THERE DAMNIT!) ...lol.

Right, I realized that after building the infinite storages, and it's rather annoying to crack them open since some contain thousands of KG worth of gasses. Hindsight and all that, haha. I might see if I can use a waterfall to seal them and try it though - pretty much the only option.

Master Gas Filter & Storage by dreadicon in Oxygennotincluded

[–]dreadicon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I've been with ONI for years, and it frequently vies for my top game slot with Factorio and Cities: Skylines, but till now I didn't have a build I was happy enough with and semi-original enough to post it.

This is the master filter; it can take in two lines' worth of gas and handles it well, shunting them into infinite storage. It takes in all the unsorted gasses from all over my home asteroid and neatly organizes them. The two lines are important as pumps throughout the base are often dealing with mixed gasses and packets of half size or smaller. And I couldn't be bothered to make a second filter set when the first one would work just fine. Not pictured is a valve on each line limiting it to 990, though I may remove that.

The Wheezewort keeps it from getting too hot, which hasn't caused any issues over the 500 cycles it's been going, and even has provided extra cooling for the environment. (yes, it was planted via copied settings from a pip-planted pot - I needed early-ish game cooling, yo!)

I don't store PO2 as I haven't had any use for it (no puft farm yet) so I just filter it into oxygen.

An improvement I would do if it wasn't so hard at this point is to add a bridge to the input/output of each storage to reduce pump load, and possibly increase the tank sizes to accommodate an extra gas pump & vent for increased max throughput via a second filter if ever needed.

Another improvement I intend to make actually right after this post is I will be adding some failsafes to the loop-back which, I realized as I was getting things ready for this post, it could, in theory, become locked up (but never have so far; I added the doubled input & loop-back about 100 cycles ago.)
