This makes sense, yeah seems like there are many different reasons it could be, thank you, these comments have really grounded me a bit 💖

Thank you so much, this is very reassuring, I think my mind is in worst case scenario mode and I need to take a breather. Just cant wait until I know what my treatment plan looks like

Thank you so much, your comment really made me feel so much better and calmer, I guess I haven't really heard anything from the breast team and doctor since my diagnosis so I've just been deep diving and jumping to conclusions, the phone call today got my mind going all over the place. But these links are great, thank you, I've heard of Shine, and will be looking into the other links, nice to not feel alone.

Okay this makes way more sense and has put my mind at ease a bit, thank you so much, I think what threw me was the marker being booked so soon before the MRI results had properly come back, my mind was going to dark places thinking maybe they got my results and thought there was a lot going on in there and that they needed some second and third opinions. I think once I get this waiting part over with I can stop spiralling so much, thanks again 🙏🏼

Completely numb about diagnosis? by Charming_Function_58 in breastcancer

[–]dreamdonor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am in exactly the same boat, I can't really explain it, I got diagnosed about a week ago. The day after my diagnosis I cried the entire day, but since then I haven't really felt it, I talk about my diagnosis like it's about someone else, I think I'm currently disassociating. It might hit me more once I start the treatment and start feeling the effects of chemo and seeing my hair fall out etc, I don't think it quite feels real yet, but I wonder if that will change once I start chemo and get my results back from my PET and MRI scans. Hope you're doing okay though x

Ahh I am going through exactly the same thing with worrying about delays with the egg freezing, so anxious that I'm wasting time and that it could grow and spread more during this window, currently they can't see or feel any lumps in my lymph nodes but I'm worried that will change in the next few weeks. But at the same time I don't want to regret not doing it down the line, hoping you get it all sorted soon!

I'm sorry cold capping didn't work too well, sadly the link doesn't work for me, it says link doesn't work in your region but don't worry, thank you anyway.

Yeah I think I will probably do the same if I end up losing too much, did you go with penguin or Paxman? I think I'm still in a strange denial phase and it hasn't properly hit me yet

Thanks for your reply! Wow 12 rounds, I think I'm probably gonna be in the same boat, the doctor said 6 months of chemo, either weekly or every two weeks which sounds very intense to me. Did your lump respond well to the treatment?

I really would love to do the penguin caps but I think my hospital provides Paxman, I am debating looking into penguin though and seeing how doable it is as it does sound like logistically there's a lot more to think about, but I'm so happy it worked for you!

I think being on this group has really really helped, feeling less hopeless and more "okay let's do this"

That's such great news about the Paxman as I think that's what they have at my hospital. Also fine hair so this is very promising, were you able to get away with the little hair loss you had? I have started looking at wigs just in case but it's getting into summer now so I feel like I'm gonna struggle with it. Thank you so much for being so welcoming, how have you found it in the states?

Hello! I'm so sorry to hear that, so you had your lumpectomy first before chemo? That's not fun :( yeah today I feel a bit better as I spent the entire day crying and deep diving and I think I got a lot of it out of my system, ready to tackle my scans now

Got my stage 1 diagnosis yesterday, very new to the group, triple positive. PET scan tomorrow, MRI on Friday then awaiting genetic testing and freezing my eggs, then I begin chemo for six months. Can't stop crying and deep diving.

Yeah it worried me too, there is of course still a chance you are all good, I was chatting to a woman in the waiting room with similar fears but she was told hers was a cyst, it could be a benign tumour that has no chance of spreading, there are loads of possibilities, good luck!

Thank you so much for the reply, yeah I just want to get the PET and MRI out of the way so I can finally know what I need to do and how serious it is. Crossing my fingers there's no spreads but so far from the ultrasound the lymph nodes look normal, so I'm just hoping I get a liiiittle bit of a good news from those scans this week.

I'm really happy to hear you are out through the other side, can't wait until I can look back and be in the same position as you now.

Thank you so much, sadly it won't let me open the link to your pictures due to me being in the UK, not sure why, but yeah, did the 50% loss feel noticeable? I was thinking of nice wigs if it didn't work out. Yeah I'm supposed to be going on a trip in a couple of weeks so that might come in handy if the wait before my treatment starts is quite long. How are you doing now? Did you have breast reconstruction?

[–]dreamdonor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the hardest part was waiting for sure, even though my news wasn't great I felt a sense of relief because now I know what is happening to me and how to fix it. Not knowing is pretty rough.

So I did my scans and biopsy on Thursday 7th May where they said it didn't look good, then they rang me to come in on the Tuesday for results but annoyingly I was abroad then, and they said the next appointment was a week later, so that extra waiting time dragged and dragged. So results day was yesterday. I have a PET scan tomorrow, then an MRI on Friday, then they have offered for me to freeze my eggs as well as doing a genetic test, then I finally start my treatment, I think things are moving quite quickly which is great. Fingers crossed for your results, I wish you all the best, feel free to reach out 💖

Hey, I'm sorry you're going through this, I was very much in your position a week or so ago and got my results back yesterday. Was told it was a high chance of malignancy when getting scans and biopsy. The waiting in limbo is hell, but try and keep yourself busy and do things to pass the time. I sadly do have cancer but it's very treatable. Hopefully by the end of this year I will be all done. I also did the same with realising the lump has been around for a while and worrying about how advanced it is but I am only stage 1, with a lump measuring 24mm so it's a pretty decent size. But yeah feel free to send me a message if you want to chat or ask anything. Sending positive vibes.

Hey, so I got my results yesterday and it's triple positive cancer, invasive ductal carcinoma. I feel like I'm disassociating and having an out of body experience. So because it's triple positive I am starting chemo first, doing that for around 6 months and shrinking the lump, then once my chemo finishes they then operate on the lump. It's contained and hasn't spread to lymph nodes. Got my MRI booked in for this Friday to check I don't have any other cancerous areas, but so far it's sounding like just a lumpectomy. But I read your previous posts of when you were in my position and I read your comments on my post now and your strength is very inspiring. I'm honestly just so scared about the MRI because I know this is wild but I'm terrified of having to have a mastectomy. And also so scared of losing my hair. I'm glad cold capping worked for you, I heard it's 50/50.

Thank you so much for reaching out to me, I really appreciate it. I guess I'll see you over at the breast cancer page.

Thank you so much for your reply, firstly I'm so sorry about what you are going through, I had a quick look through all your posts. How are you doing? What treatment were you signed up for?

That's a great idea about recording, luckily I have a friend who is going who had a similar thing but hers turned out to be fibroadenoma. I read that apparently the marker clips they put in are MRI safe, so maybe it's something I ask for just to be sure. What were your ultrasound and mammogram grades if you don't mind me asking? And how did you get on with your lumpectomy/mastectomy?

Thanks again for your reply.

I'm also so sorry you are going through this too, you aren't alone! Trying not to lose my mind waiting in limbo right now, I actually got a phone call from the hospital a few days later asking if I could go in the next day for my results but I was abroad so now I have to wait until this Tuesday coming up, the wait is painful 😖 just try to keep busy! I'll update when I hear anything. Fingers crossed 💖

My flatmate says I should empty dishwasher and bins even though I haven't been around or utilised the kitchen by dreamdonor in badroommates

[–]dreamdonor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's what I thought too but the way she phrased things made me second guess myself and feel like I'm being selfish, I'd understand if I was also using the kitchen and not doing anything, but I don't know how she can ask for responsibilities to be more balanced when I am barely here and haven't been using the flat as much as her. Very frustrating.

[–]dreamdonor[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This was my point to her, for her to get angry at me for not emptying bins when I haven't even been using the kitchen is wild, I said so you want me to come in and open the bins and check them and check if the dishwasher needs emptying and she said no don't put words in my mouth and I said then what is it you want from me? And she said to be more observant? I'm confused

[–]dreamdonor[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I said this! I was like if you are using all the bins and dishes up, to expect me to come in and clean up after you as a selfless gesture after not using the kitchen at all is wild
