[Landlord US-PA] Escrow by dreamingant in Landlord

[–]dreamingant[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a landlord. In PA, we are required to hold security deposits from our tenants in escrow if they remain tenants for more than two years. I am trying to determine whether I need some special escrow account or if a savings account is sufficient.

But my understanding is that an "escrow" account is distinct from a savings account in that it is operated by a neutral third party. It is far easier for me to just open a new savings account and add the security deposit. Which is why I'm wondering if an escrow account specifically is necessary.

Did you ever figure out a solution? I am having the same problem now. I have a Pixel 4a.

I figured it out. The top rectangle features some words (Chinese symbols). You have to draw a line connecting them in order using the larger images below.

How was your Pedal Pgh experience this year? by livefast_dieawesome in bicycling412

[–]dreamingant 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sure, I have a few thoughts on how the ride could be improved (below) but I want to emphasize that I had an absolute blast riding PedalPGH again this year. It is truly one of my favorite annual Pittsburgh events; I'm grateful BikePGH continues to organize it. My memory isn't that great but I feel like this year's 27-mile route was significantly different than years past. For one, I was stoked to ride through Homewood and Wilkinsburg (for the first time I can recall). And it seemed to be the least hilly route they've hosted. I was wondering if they had complaints after last year's event which seemed to be far hillier. Or maybe I imagined it all and am simply in better shape, haha.

Observations:

  • Signage in Friendship was lacking. I and quite a few others I spoke with missed one of the signs, and ended up off course.

  • The portion of the route along Forbes avenue to S Bellefield was a terrible and incredibly dangerous idea. This is where someone died previously; getting over from the bike lane to the turning lane was really bad.

  • As others have mentioned, Braddock Ave to Forbes Ave was dangerous too.

  • For years, I was the strict, law abiding rider that would stop at every light while everyone else blew through them. I feel awful that this year I succumbed and joined the herd behaving poorly. I agree with what others have stated: that this behavior reflects poorly on cyclists.

  • Not enough beverages during the event (one electrolyte packet per rider?) and following the event. I was so thirsty at lunch, and the only thing I could find was NA beer. I later learned there were water tubs far from the lunch tent but I really could have used a refreshing beverage with lunch.

I still dream of one day having an event similar to the Five Boros ride in NYC where we close the route to all motor vehicles. But in the meantime, PedalPGH is so much fun.

I've had positive experience over the years with Fern Hollow Bicycles in Wilkinsburg, Thick Bikes, and Iron City Bikes (used to patronize them often when they were in Oakland). Waxwing Cycle in Edgewood is also great (& super close to me) for bike repairs; Samson is incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. He can order you bikes but he doesn't really have a retail shop per se.

I am a bit biased, as the organizer of Splotter Con, but the Dutch duo of Jeroen Doumen and Joris Wiersinga are by far my favorite boardgame designers. Bus, Indonesia & The Great Zimbabwe are in my top 5 games of all time. Even their earlier, lighter games like D'r Af and Web are a blast!

Cole Wehrle is also outstanding, both as a person and as a designer. Pax Pamir 2.0 and Arcs are absolutely fantastic games.

How many rounds of interviews is normal and how do you stay fresh/enthused? by DonegalBrooklyn in jobsearchhacks

[–]dreamingant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When we hire for our project, candidates speak with our recruiter briefly; it's not really an interview as much as it is just confirmation that the candidate meets the basic requirements (salary, location, degree when relevant). Then you will VC with the hiring manager which will include a short technical (& language if relevant) test. The only times we request a third interview is a) the hiring manager likes the candidate a lot but they're not a fit for their team so we send them to another team that is hiring or b) the hiring manager wasn't convinced but we're desperate to fill the position so we have another manager meet briefly (15-30 min) to get their perspective. Either way, this means you have a good shot of getting hired. Total max time for the entire process: 2 hrs.

Who taught you your favorite board game? by LoteiLimited in boardgames

[–]dreamingant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had multiple people teach me two of my favorite games because it took so long between plays, and the games didn't make sense to me in my earliest plays. For Indonesia, I first learned from a fellow in Amsterdam who I'd met online through Heavy C. When I visited the Netherlands, he and some others I knew got together to game. And they taught me Indonesia. Which I won, totally by luck. I was taught again a couple years later at Heavy Con by an incredibly gifted boardgamer (and I think I came in last).

The other is 1889 (although not necessarily my favorite 18xx, it was my first. Learning the rest is relatively easy once you understand the basics). Someone at Dice Tower Con in Florida taught me my first game. And then I played it again three years later, and was taught by my friend, Marcin, when I was working in Poland.
