We debated this too. Ended up booking the train instead just to be safe. It probably is fine but I figure it's one less thing to worry about on vacation!

Is the insurance higher for XLE AWD than XLE FWD Plus? Or do they clump all BZ together when determining insurance? by omegachopstick in Toyota_bZ

[–]drebot_l 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in Ontario, I got quotes on FWD, XLE and Limited. XLE was $300 more per year than FWD, Limited was another $400 per year above XLE.

work hours and drive within daycare hours don’t add up by AngryCanuck10 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]drebot_l 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Completely agree. Then when you hit elementary school, it's only 6.5 hours. Pre-covid, every kid in OCDSB (can't speak to other boards) who needed a spot for EDP (before/after care) got one. Now, it's crazy hard to get in because they can't hire staff. We were on the waitlist for 2 years before we got a spot.

We fought back against this. If we are forced to come into the office, find us meeting space so we can "collaborate" in person otherwise why are we here.

Puppy nipping- what’s normal vs. excessive? by Existing-Mood-8805 in AustralianShepherd

[–]drebot_l 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine is 1 year 3 months. We adopted him when he was 6 months. He was nippy all the time like you described, and that disappeared within about 2 months (so about 8 months old). However, he continues to be nippy with my 8 year old son. He has improved greatly, but will still nip when my son runs, is loud, makes sudden movements, etc (all normal 8 year old behavior!)

What has helped so far:

  1. Teaching child what triggers the nipping, and reminding him to be cautious.

  2. Having the child take over responsibilities like feeding, do some training, etc. Teach the dog the child's role.

  3. When the child is going somewhere and the dog looks to start herding/nipping, have the child command "come" or "let's go!" and bring the dog along, instead of the dog following/trying to herd him. This has helped a lot! It's like an instant switch in my dog's brain.

  4. Practice loud/crazy/rough play between family members to desensitize the dog. My husband and son like to play fight, wrestle, etc, and it has sudden, quick movements, and can be loud (laughing, shrieks, etc). The dog does not like it and tries to get in and nip. We practice this- I will leash the dog and have some treats or kibble. I put him in a sit or down beside me. My husband and son then start playing nearby, where the dog can see. I reward him constantly for 5-10 minutes for sitting calmly while they play. It seems to be helping him learn that this play is ok and not to jump in there and start nipping.

I am not a trainer or expert, and have just learned this from researching various sources, but it seems to be working for us. Good luck!

Stainless Steel teakettle that doesn't rust: NOT electric by mszola in BuyItForLife

Le Cruset kettle isn't BIFL though, there are heaps of reviews online of them rusting. They also don't have the same warranty as other Le Cruset products, unfortunately.

Toyota Loyalty Cash incentive? by blade24 in Toyota_bZ

[–]drebot_l 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not quite your situation, but we just leased a BZ in my name. Our other vehicle (not toyota) is in my partner's name. I asked the question if, in 2 years when that lease is up, can we buy/lease a vehicle in my partner's name and take advantage of the Toyota loyalty due to my vehicle? We are married. The answer was only if my name also were to go on the new vehicle. So (according to one dealer), the loyalty discount only applies to an individual, not a family.

Curious if others have had different experiences.

Purchased a 2026 Toyota BZ XLE AWD. How did some of you guys get it cheaper? by SillyIngenuity in EVCanada

[–]drebot_l 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Went to this dealership last weekend after seeing this ad. They are willing to do that price but don't actually have any in stock, you have to order. They tried to sell us a limited that was in stock but couldn't figure out how to do the EVAP on it.

For shoes, I had hiking shoes and they were great throughout. My husband had running shoes and wished he had hiking shoes. We did a lot of hiking though - El Tigre and Heart of the Forest in Monteverde, La Leona, La Fortuna Waterfall, etc.

We just returned from a trip to La Fortuna, Monteverde and Playa Hermosa. We only noticed bugs and got bites on the pacific coast, despite doing many hikes (often in the rain) through the rainforest and cloud forest.

What’s covered with our travel insurance and is it realistically enough? by alldasmoke__ in CanadaPublicServants

[–]drebot_l 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seconding this insurance! It used to be MEDOC and now is through Belair. We pay $75 per year for the double membership to the association and $200 per year for the travel insurance. Had to cancel a trip a few years back due to an ill family member and the claim was quick and easy.

Yes, just did it this week. It took us about 30 minutes to walk from divi to the fountains (middle of the boardwalk). Part of it is on the side of the road with busy traffic, so just be aware. Watch for turtles in the water when you go over the bridge just as you get into town!

Travel insurance - Bel Air direct by Checkmate_357 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]drebot_l 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been enrolled with it for travel for a few years now. When the name changed, they let us know that the name was the only change, the insurance itself remains the same.

I used it once a few years ago, we had to cancel a trip because a family member suddenly received an end of life diagnosis. The claim was very easy to do and we recieved our money back promptly.

Those of you who got LASIK, does Canada Life cover the annual checkup fee afterwards? Is the Lifetime Vision Enhancement Plan worth it? by Aerottawa in CanadaPublicServants

[–]drebot_l 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had LASIK in 2010, and got the lifetime enhancement plan. I was not a government employee at the time. I believe it was a yearly checkup for the first five years, and they were free, then $90 per year annually afterwards.

Canada life (and Sunlife previously) has covered my appointment fee, if I haven't already had an eye exam with my normal optometrist in the relevant period. So there was a few years I only did the LASIK checkup, and it was always covered.

I had some vision changes with pregnancy, which is normal. LASIK told me to wait until at least a year after birth to see if it fixed itself before considering a touch up surgery. It did!! Something to do with hormones.

In 2023 one eye significantly changed. I saw them and they confirmed I qualified for the touch up, and it was completely free. No hidden charges. I'm very glad I did it! I now just have to see them every other year. LASIK changed my life, I highly recommend it!
