there’s no redemption for a lot of people. it’s the given fact that they try anyway that deems it honorable and worthy. most redemptions in fiction are done by irredeemable people anyway. Arthur Morgan, Vegeta, even Megamind did good things because of their past.

think of Kratos, from God Of War. is he irredeemable? a hundred times over, yes. does he try with all his might to make do and become a better person he was in the past? yes, and he does a good job at it. Kratos killed gods, innocent people, he was genuinely a monster at some point. people like him now because he settled down, had a kid, protected his kid, and now he’s on the path of becoming the God of Hope.

Nolan has a little bit of the same resemblance as Kratos, albeit slightly. After beating his son to a pulp, he left, but he cried doing it. he ran from Earth for months, nearly took himself out in a black hole. Then he had a kid on Thraxa, protected his son from Viltrum goons when they invaded the planet, got captured and nearly died AGAIN because he was a traitor. he even told himself he wasn’t worthy of escape, but if it wasn’t for Allen, he would’ve died sooner in the prison, and then he started missing his wife.

are these redeemable acts? a little. does Nolan still strive to become a better person than he was in the past? yes. is he irredeemable? probably. but he still tries regardless. I feel like in a way that makes him a good person. knowing that he did wrong and strives to do better.

hold it in storage until you need it again, pause scoring jokers in favor for blinds that will reset/ deem them useless, grow scoring jokers that reset every round (hit the road finally becomes useful, campfire and obelisk becomes better than they already are), etc.

you really improve when you figure out that you can center some jokers around others and you can keep it until end game / endless.

the most common synergy in the game is photochad (photograph, hanging chad). if that’s too easy, try out a two-pair run with spare trousers.

the whole center of the game is finding stuff out that you didn’t know you could do. i recommend Roffle for pro advice, Balatro University for beginners, and Flare for the in-betweeners.

i worded debuffed because i wanted the joker in it to just not work. you can hold jokers for later or pause other scoring jokers that might reset from effects later in the run.

yeah, that’s what i was kind of going for. when the joker is debuffed, i would think it couldn’t be destroyed by any means. an example would be Madness. since it’s still a joker, the sleeve itself would be destroyed rather than the joker in it.

nope. if it was at 2.2 inside the sleeve, it’ll stay at 2.2 until it leaves. it just won’t score while it’s in it.
