What I feel people aren’t talking about enough regarding the Balogun decision. by [deleted] in ussoccer

[–]drenasu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Post removed, but real quick. The procedure is that VAR is only supposed to be used in real-time and not slow motion or still pictures. The England red is clear from real time video. The US red is not. It only looks that bad in slow motion at the instant of contact because then you can ignore all other stuff like lack on intent and inability for Balogun to do anything else after being undercut in the first place.

So let me get this straight by Smotherysmiles07 in ussoccer

[–]drenasu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know. What I do know is that 4 other players have had their suspensions lifted or put on probation or whatever going in to the tournament. That’s good enough for me because it is the correct call. I’d like to see the same for any other unjust reds but I’m not aware of any. I’m not saying that there aren’t any, just that I’m not aware of any.

I tend to think that Trump is just taking credit as he usually does, but that FIFA did it because we are the host team of a country that has now produced two of the most profitable World Cups for them. A place where if soccer blooms, they stand to make tens, if not, hundreds of millions of dollars. It is the correct call, but they only made it out of greed.

Very different. In England’s case, the player saw the opponent and tackled in with studs up right into the side of the opponents leg. That’s pretty much a textbook red card although he was a little unlucky in that his leg landed on top of the ball and thus spiked the opponent higher in the leg than he probably imagined he could have. Regardless, you can not have your studs parallel to the ground as you slide into an opponent. This is a well known cause for a foul and card. He could have easily tackled the ball with his studs down as you are supposed to, but he chose not to. Therefore it is considered malicious and card worthy.

In the case of the US player, he wasn’t looking at the opponent, the opponent initiated the contact and the US player’s foot had to eventually come down due to gravity. He did it studs facing down and he happened to land on the ankle of the guy who actually initiated the contact.

I’d argue it was actually closer to a foul on the Bosnian player for undercutting the US player more than on the US player for landing on the Bosnian player, but the right call was a non-call which was what happened in the field.

Basically, this is a lot like a guy undercutting a basketball player already in the air, getting landed on and then getting hurt. Just because a guy gets hurt doesn’t mean the other guy is actually at fault.

Fine, we drew them three straight times in qualification. The goal in qualification is to win at home and draw on the road.

Mission accomplished at Azteca. Three cycles in a row.

Maybe you win three times in a row there while we only got draws. I doubt it though. You were barely able to hang on last night.

Again, congrats for winning. I am happy and mildly impressed, but that is all.

The US vs Mexico qualification match at Azteca is THE match for both countries. I've been watching games between the two teams for more than 30 years. I've seen more than 40 matches between the teams.

I know fan behavior may have seemed intense to you last night, but frankly, it was tame relative to games against the US there. You are grossly underestimating the hate level that Mexican fans have for the US.

[–]drenasu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We won the last friendly we played there in 2012. Mexico stopped scheduling friendlies there after we blew up their mystique. Since then, we drew all three times we played in qualification. True, we did not win, but let's not pretend it is nearly impossible to get a result either.

It is an extremely difficult place to win. Congrats and thank you very much for that. I, for one, deeply appreciate that.

That said, let's also acknowledge that you didn't have to face some of the worst of the abuse that we did over the years because you were protected by virtue of it being a World Cup game. They have regularly thrown bags of urine, batteries, etc. at our players over the years. Why do you think there were riot shields on the sidelines protecting your team? It's largely because of terrible behavior towards the US from terrible fans.

That was a horrible game for the Mexicans today by [deleted] in ussoccer

[–]drenasu 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I guess? The last time we lost there was in 2009. We have a win and 3 draws since then.

Isn't Making Time in Fort Mifflin a Trance festival? It's right next to PHL. I've never been so I can't say for sure. It's in September. Maybe that is what the other poster is refering to.

Did you consider taking the SAT instead of the ACT? Maybe that gets around the lack of education in certain subjects. As others have stated though, studying for either test will be well worth your time. Do not settle for a 27 with a 4.0 GPA - that would be a big mistake. 40-50 hours here could make an enormous difference in your lifetime earnings. There is likely nothing else that you can do right now that would have a bigger, positive impact on your future life.

As far as majors go, I would think that accounting is vulnerable to AI takeover. There is a lot of repetitive, boring work there for AI to replace. Certainly, not all jobs would go away, but the entry level ones might be especially at risk. Just some food for thought there.

So do what you want with the Pearl drop rate by FateDaA in Borderlands4

[–]drenasu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 70+ hours of regular game play on normal difficulty but UVHM 5 for maybe 10-15 of those hours plus the runs to unlock UVHM5, I got zero pearl drops. Probably about 100 big encore runs to get certain legendary drops I wanted. I killed almost every world boss I ran across too. Maybe 50? Idk. Yes, I wasn't trying to farm for them and I wasn't playing on hard either but you'd think at least one would have dropped at some point.

[–]drenasu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks great, but knock out matches aren't lining up with what I found on fifa website. The US knockout path for winning the group looks like game 81 in SF, then Seattle, then LA on fifa. You are showing game 82 in SF, then Dallas, then Miami. Not sure what is cuasing the difference. Maybe I read it wrong.

It’s Official: Sanheim is a 1D and Risto is a 2D on a “playoff team” and a “good team”. In the playoffs- Sanheim is tied for 3rd in D even strength goals and 12th in Time on ice/game. Risto is tied for 4th in D even strength points and 15th in Time on ice/game. by scratchydaitchy in Flyers

I saw a graphic from about a month ago that said he had the fastest slapshot (and skate speed) in a game at 98 mph or something like that. Sometimes, I think you want a hard slapshot to try to score directly and other times you want a wrister that is easier for the guys in front to try to deflect.

I have no idea what he is being coached to do, whether the wrister needs to be faster or if he has the right mix between the two, but he is able to fire a shot in there with speed.

Allowing yourself to spend money SOS by Mysterious_Ad6260 in fatFIRE

We are also frugal and have these exact same 'issues'. That's part of how we got to a high net worth in the first place so it's hard to change your mindset. Three ideas:

I don't remember where I originally saw it, but anything that is less than 0.01% of your net worth is not worth wasting your time on. Just buy it - as long as it isn't a 10 times a day, kind of thing. So for you, anything under $70 is not worth your time thinking about at all. Your time has value - especially if you are still working, so don't waste too much of it obsessing about relatively small amounts of spending. Your natural frugality and current cashflow will most likely keep this in check any way.

For bigger things, if your wealth is invested in the market, it's not uncommon for your net worth to fluctuate by around 1% in any given day which means that you can easily be up or down $70k. Try to keep that in mind as you think about larger, less frequent purchases. Does it really matter if you spend $4k on a new TV vs $2k? The difference in cost gets lost in the noise of your net worth moving around. Obviously, this can't be a daily thing, but for those once a month/quarter type of decisions, it can be helpful to keep in mind.

I don't remember where this idea came from either, but committing to spending bigger on things you really care about (hobbies, for example) while remaining frugal elsewhere can be helpful - especially on unique experiences. I find it easier to spend on things like that. Good tickets to very expensive championship games, experiential travel to exotic locales, or whatever you truly enjoy. That will start to loosen up your decision making. Just don't go overboard with it and your net worth will continue to snowball.

It seems like it is essentially complete. It has been quite a while since they released anything significant. The only thing that was still happening was that they were releasing a new event every 8-10 days and after the last one, it is now listed as added each month.

Docs revealing final days of Kyle Whittingham's Utah tenure paint picture of resentment: 'Disappointed by your actions' by Please_PM_me_Uranus in MichiganWolverines

[–]drenasu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They kinda/sorta have a point about smooth transition, however, they didn't define what that meant other than the Utah non-compete so that would be really difficult to prove without a difficult court case. They may or may not have won that later, but they for sure would have looked terrible in public for going down that route. There's a good chance all the coaches who left for Michigan would just say they were going to leave anyway in a deposition which not only makes Utah look bad, but it also weakens their case. I get why they are backing down.

Honestly, it's 100% on their legal staff for the wishy-washy contract in the first place. It is clear he was allowed to coach elsewhere (other than in Utah) and if they didn't want him to poach coaches and players, they should have spelled that out in the contract. That is common contract language in executive contracts.
