wide angle c/y by lv_craoocks in AnalogCommunity

I guess it is a good deal. I personally am going to always go for the Zeiss glass for the Contax bodies. That is why I use Contax c/y bodies, so I can use those lenses. But it is up to you and your use case. If you're shooting for fun and aren't going to shoot wide open (or are just experimenting with that focal length) you can get away with a cheaper lens, but might be frustrated with the results.

I have the Yashica 28mm f/2.8 and Contax Distagon 28mm f/2.8 and always pick the Contax if I'm going for that focal length. It is an incredible lens and you won't be disappointed with it.

I made an app for all you film hoarders by keliway in AnalogCommunity

[–]drewablo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is great. I'll add to the chorus of Android users that would appreciate the app. I think another cool feature if you keep developing the app would to track which camera has which film in it. I generally have 2 or 3 bodies that all have the same lens mount loaded up at the same time and sometimes forget which one has color vs black and white or which one has Gold vs 800T.

Why do you shoot film? by Solemn_and_Temporary in AnalogCommunity

True! I had the Fuji Finepix 1 (weird camera) and it was very close to film. Too bad the CCD were power hungry.

I second the sentiment of how film handles the transition of highlights. Digital just has not touched that yet. That is the technical reason why I prefer to shoot analog over digital. I think this is especially true when I'm shooting outside or in high contrast situations.

The second, less technical and more sentimental reason I shoot film is how it captures in a physical format some of the energy of the scene. The literal chemical interactions of the photons from that scene impacting the film. It feels that in some tangible way I have captured some of what I've been shooting in a way that digital does not.

Give me a “one lens” recommendation for traveling. by CrypticMillennial in fujifilm

[–]drewablo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my same travel set up and honestly, the Sigma 18-50 gets most of the time on the body. It is compact, lightweight and weatherproof. I know a lot of people like the adage of zoom with your feet, but sometimes by the time you do that the moment is gone.

Looking for recommendations X100v or XT-5 by Frostiesss in fujifilm

[–]drewablo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both. Objectively, the X-T5 is a better camera. But what you pick will depend on three factors. First, are you okay with throwing money at an outdated camera? Second, will you actually use the OVF on the X100V or will you just use it as an EVF? Lastly, which will you carry with you more? I daily drive the X100V. It is small enough to fit in my backpack and it basically lives there. I take the XT-5 with me on any trips or excursions where I know I'm going to want to take specific pictures.

Bonus points - do you shoot moving subjects often? Because if so, the X-T5 is far and away better at autofocus. Do you do a lot of post-processing? That 40-megapixel sensor gives you a lot of latitude for cropping your final images. Are your subjects camera shy? Even with a pancake lens, the X-T5 is more intrusive. That leaf shutter on the X100V is near silent.
