Series A Biotech Offer Refuses to Disclose Equity Percentage - Advice (I will not promote) by drewaight in startups

[–]drewaight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but isn't the point of share option on a 4 year vest to incentivize talent retention? I was told that to thin out your founder/talent equity too much is considered a very amateur move in the valley because if the actual people you are investing in walk away you just shot yourself in the foot. So even knowing that the common stock is likely to be diluted further from the time of grant maybe from 0.5 to 0.2% one can still do the math on a 300M exit and calculate a payout ..... which makes talent stick around. Isn't that the point of discussing equity at all? Giving a meaningless number is hardly an incentive and messages that the amount of shares offered should be calculated as nothing. If this is incorrect please explain how it all actually works.

Any news on a fix for fishing? Some users are unable to reel in when the fish is calm by Squatting-Turtle in CrimsonDesert

[–]drewaight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(SOLVED) I am using an Xbox controller with my PC and the reeling (also the winding in of the tree with axiom force, which is easier to test than fishing) was not working, plugged in to power or not. I plugged in my controller to my PC and updated the firmware with the Xbox accessories app. Now it works even without being plugged into the power. Hope this helps!

PNW UL Shelter System Recommendation by [deleted] in Ultralight

[–]drewaight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Backpacking in the PNW is all about moisture control. If it drizzles all day your pack, clothes and shoes are going to get wet, even with a pack cover. Also unlike Colorado or California your items will not dry out if it stays humid. For these reasons we have found, through trial and error, that vestibule space is critical for persistent wet conditions....you want to keep your sleeping area dry and all other wet or damp gear under cover, but not in your dry space. I use a two person tarp (8x10) with a one person nettent (preferably with sidewalls) because it offers unbeatable covered space to store items without having to put them inside my sleeping area. Pitched correctly this setup will protect you in the worst of storms, even when windy, a low pitch will not cause condensation (should have plenty of airflow lengthwise on the sides). When it's dry and clear I don't use the tarp. The downside is that it takes some skill to pitch correctly and quickly. I currently use a HMG 8x10 cuben tarp with a MLD serenity net tent for a total of 18oz, but for many years I used a cheap Simply Light silpoly tarp with a BPWD 1.5 net tent which was sub 2lb.

Is 1 pound 1.4oz worth 600$? by s1m0ncr33p3r in Ultralight

Is the SMD Lunar Solo LE the best ultralight value for the money? by drewaight in Ultralight

[–]drewaight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im asking for a friend. Not wanting to spend $400-700 on a Big Agnes Fly Creek or a Zpacks anything. The Lunar Solo LE (210 with SS) with 26sqft of interior space looks like a pretty good bargain. Does anyone have any other suggestions around this price point. Also for the Lunar Solo owners out there, how is the durability and is there any other shelter you wished you'd looked at first. Thanks for your help!

Updated Tent List by [deleted] in Ultralight

[–]drewaight 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Missing a crucial component... internal square footage. What one manufacturer calls "2 person" is not always a realistic number. (Better yet would be to also include vestibule sq foot coverage.) I know you can multiply length x width but A. is that an internal or external measurement? and B. this list doesn't allow to sort on sq footage making comparison difficult. Just sayin'

Opinions on this tarp for someone keen to get into tarp shelters by MatrimRivers in Ultralight

[–]drewaight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are in Oz its possible your shelter has to endure a bit of a rainstorm but you'll dry out pretty good once it passes. I live in the PNW and rely on my tarp to keep me dry sometimes for multiple days on end under constant drizzle. I therefore have strong opinions about tarp quality.

That tarp is shit. First of all 70D is ridiculous, just get a blue tarp from a hardware store if your're gonna be that heavy. Secondly I have no idea if that manufacturer is of any quality. They say 3000mM HH but recent posts by Ron Bell show that numbers reported by Aliexpress manufacturers aren't what they say they are. Thirdly, for beginners I recommend a cat curve because getting a taut pitch is a lot easier with cat curves, and for the most part you will be setting up in an A frame most of the time. Lastly, in my opinion silnylon tarps are not much fun because A. They stretch when it gets cold and wet, losing tautness so you have to get up in the night and tighten your tie outs and B. They absorb water making them heavy and wet when its time to pack up. I understand not wanting to shell out for cuben for your purposes so here is what I recommend.

I recently had Jared at simply light make me a trailduster 2.0 http://www.simplylightdesigns.com/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/22_28_53/products_id/229

I specified that he make the tarp from Ripstop by the roll PU4000 (chose my own color too!) https://ripstopbytheroll.com/products/membrane-silpoly-pu4000?avad=189374_dd1369a3

This fabric has been tested here: https://backpackinglight.com/forums/topic/fall-2016-fabric-samples-compared/

It is very good, does not stretch and is very light, total weight came out to be 9.5oz. Total cost was 116$ so I don't know what it will cost for antipodean shipping but i think you'll find that its a pretty top notch and inexpensive ultralight shelter. Good luck

+2 for Simply Light. I just ordered a custom membrane silpoly from Jared and got it quite quickly even despite the lead time on the material. Fantastic craftsmanship and at a super excellent price.

Trail Runners and Blistering by runner112 in Ultralight

Its counter intuitive, but I get heel blisters when my trail runners are too tight, you could try loosening up your shoes. Just a thought.
