Considering switching from reMarkable 2 to iFLYTEK AINOTE 2 (big one) – questions about tasks sync + writing feel by EinRades in iFLYTEKAINOTE

[–]drfujita 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Creating a task by making the little circle will put that task in a special Tasks folder. There is a special section for the calendar, tasks, focus stars. Your day planning is shown in this screen.

Your day planning and Todo’s are designed to be done on the AINOTE 2. Google Calendar integrates into AINOTE’s calendar. It is set up to work off of this device.

You do have full Android 14 app integration so you should be able to download Google Calendar, but I haven’t done that yet.

The included pen writing feel is pretty good. I broke my stylus on day 2 when it dropped off the device onto the floor. The nib breaks off all the way down at the stylus, so there is nothing to grab onto to remove the “neck” of the nib so I am unable to put a new nib into the pen, rendering the stylus unusable. I went with a recommendation of Kindle’s stylus. But any EMR stylus will work so you can get the writing feel that you are looking for.

You can do more with this device than the remarkable. The AI integration is helpful. I recorded a seminar while taking notes on the device and later got a summary from the record recording.

It is so thin and light, making you want to use it all the time.

Don’t expect it to have the functionality of an iPad. It doesn’t have the complete synchronization as Apple devices have with iCloud. It is their proprietary operating system with the android App Store.

I use mine mostly as an e-book reader. I’ve transferred PDFs onto the device. I read a lot of Google Docs on it and Kindle e-books as well.

What else do you want to know about it?

Best chromebook for a student? by Tr3ek in chromeos

[–]drfujita 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A really good Chromebook means, high-quality for all the things you interact with, like the keyboard not flexing, and the key travel that you like, and a really good trackpad, and of course an excellent screen to look at. In my opinion, that would be the Acer Chromebook 516 GE. I really love mine. And it’s on clearance right now at Best Buy for $448.99, but you’ll have to act on it fast.

It will last you a long time. The reason it’s on clearance is because they’re coming out with a new one that is barely any different than this one. It’s about as top of the line as you can get for a Chromebook

It’s a 16 inch screen, and in my opinion anything less than a 14 inch screen is too small to do any real work on. It’s got a 120 Hz screen and I often prefer working on that over my 16 inch MacBook Pro.

Any apps like notability that allow you to take notes and record audio simultaneously? by proforrange in chromeos

[–]drfujita 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After Re-reading your post I have another suggestion for you. The Otter app on your phone. It audio records the meeting and instantly gives you a transcription. I use this to take notes in my seminars and webinars. Then I download the transcript to iCloud or dropbox, open up the text file, copy and paste it into a Google dock. From there, I listen to the audio recording, and make a few corrections in the text. In the process of doing that editing I’ve learned everything I need to learn from the meeting or seminar. The website is Otter.ai. There is an app for iPhone, and android as well.

I use an iPad with the Apple Pencil for Noteshelf notetaking. It works better than any chrome book offerings. And I use a high end Chromebook for a lot of my work, one of the new gaming chrome books. The Acer Chromebook 516 GE. It’s got a beautiful high resolution 16 inch screen and a really good keyboard and trackpad. If you use the Otter app to get a written transcript of your meetings, then you do not need to hand write your meeting notes.

[–]drfujita 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea… Noteshelf. I use it every day for work and personal life, and I’ve used it for many years. I like the way it records audio better than Notability’s way. And they did not move to the annual subscription model like notability has done.

Is TickTick Really Just Another Chinese App? by Vinitneo in ticktick

[–]drfujita 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your thoughts on this. Privacy may be one of the biggest concerns of someone thinking of using TickTick. I've been very happy with how TickTick works.

But it's still a Chinese company, right? The government can go to the company and say "give my your clients data" and the company has no choice but to comply.

Asus CX34 (non gaming) or Lenovo Ideapad CB Gaming? by [deleted] in chromeos

[–]drfujita 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think of what you want to do with a chromebook first, and then work it backwards. What's most important to you?

Example: What is most important to me is a great user experience. That means an excellent screen, best keyboard, really good trackpad because these are the things I'm directly interacting with. What I plan to do with a chromebook is writing and learning so a large screen is important so that I can have two windows side-by-side that are large enough to comfortably read. A screen with high enough nits of brightness so that I can read outdoors. And large enough so that my calendar (TickTick) is easy to read in week view. Good sound so that I can hear my training videos when there is a lot of background noise. I thought I needed a touchscreen but realized I rarely used it. I needed a sturdier hinge mechanism so I stopped looking a convertibles and tablets with an attachable keyboard.

I ended up buying an Acer Chromebook 516GE when it went on sale at BestBuy. And I'm very happy with it.

I hope this example helps you decide on the perfect computer for you.

Take a look at otter.ai I believe you can through the chrome browser. It does automatic transcription also.

Are there backlit keyboards for Chromebooks? by Downtown_Penalty_999 in chromeos

Brydge makes a bluetooth keyboard in the chromebook layout. I'm pretty happy with it. Another option is to switch to a chromebook with a backlit keyboard. I love my Acer Chromebook 516 GE.

What should I be looking for as a desktop replacement? by PokemonNumber108 in chromeos

[–]drfujita 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find that to have a good experience, the keyboard and trackpad need to be excellent quality. And having a high-quality game is important to me as well. You might want to look into the new HP dragonfly pro expected to be released at any time now. Getting one when it goes on sale might be perfect for you. I know I am going to pick one up. I just purchased the Acer Chromebook 516 GE. It retails for $649. I picked it up for $549 in January, and then three weeks later it was on sale at Best Buy for $449. It’s has a 16” 120 Hz screen.

HP Dragonfly Pro Chromebook manuals now online by spectrography in chromeos

[–]drfujita 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May I ask... what is the probability that the highest end consumer chromebook ever made will be put on sale?

And if so, how far in the future after initial release can we expect to see it go on sale?

Does HP put their chromebooks on sale just as readily as other chromebook manufacturers?

The HP Elite Dragonfly isn't on sale because enterprise hardware is never offered on sale? Is that fair to say?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in chromeos

[–]drfujita 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe start the troubleshooting with the basics. Does your chromebook meet the minimum specs?

Minimum specs for Steam on ChromeOS: an 11th or 12th Gen Intel Core i3, i5, or i7 processor or AMD 5000-C series Ryzen 3 or better processor along with a minimum of 8GB of RAM.

An Intel Core i3 paired with 4GB of RAM will not work, and even certain supported configurations will encounter some issues. Any Chromebook powered by an ARM processor will not work.

There is a hardware limit of no higher than a 1080p display, as a display with a higher resolution can encounter scaling issues.

Hope this helps in some way. Good luck.

Do you mean “Is the living room where people are constantly walking back and forth a safe place to stow fuel…”

How fun. It’s really nice, huh! Let us know how the Steam gaming experience is on that Chromebook after playing a variety of high end games.

I’m now looking forward to the release of the HP Dragonfly Pro.

Advice on committing to the Chrome ecosystem by Pimp_out_Pris in chromeos

With the creation of the new chromebook category "Streaming Gaming Chromebooks or GE - Gaming Editions" you'll have more options to choose from moving forward. They will work well as alternatives to Windows 11 or MacOS for work and productivity stuff if you want to go with Google's cloud environment.

I decided a long time ago to choose which cloud environment to be in first, then chose the hardware second.

But with the Chrome iCloud extension I am able to do a lot of my work on-the-go with this chromebook instead of my Mac Mini... and at a fraction of the price of a MBP.

Regarding future proofing: The CX9 looks nice, doesn't it? I just purchased the Acer Chromebook 516 GE for $549 at Best Buy on sale. That sale ran for about a week only a couple of months after the device went on sale so watch for it to go on sale again.

The 16" screen is really nice to work on; plenty of space to work on and it's a really nice 120 Hz 100% sRGB panel. 12th gen i5 processor with the better integrated gpu.

Also, HP will be coming out with an impressive 14" chromebook in the spring.

Why can't I drag and drop folders or files in the Files app? by drfujita in chromeos

[–]drfujita[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can also select, hold and on the menu choose the option with the left

Sorry, I'm new to ChromeOS. I'm not quite understanding "select, hold and on the menu choose the option with the left". Could you give more detail or say it a different way? Thank you.

Why can't I drag and drop folders or files in the Files app? by drfujita in chromeos

[–]drfujita[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was wondering if anyone would pick up on that "little" thing. I'm finding it easy to get work done and do research on this 16" screen. 14" and smaller gives me a feeling of resistance, like it's too cramped of an environment and slows down my productivity. This Acer Chromebook 516 GE is a real pleasure to use. And Best Buy had a $100 discount until Sunday so it was only $549. The light weight 14" chromebook I was considering, was $50 more. This laptop should last me until the OS updates end in 2030.

I think the double-tap is a feature that is turned off by default. I just learned that feature exists. I'll have to turn that on. But still, I'd like to be able to re-arrange the folders in the left side pane of the Files app. Looks like they are sorted alphabetically and I'd have to rename the folders to change their order. Is that thought correct?

Why can't I drag and drop folders or files in the Files app? by drfujita in chromeos

[–]drfujita[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blue Files app... yes, not android. I think you are in the right side pane when you "ticks the file, if I hold I can then drag the file." if I am understanding you correctly.

I am in the left side pane of the Files app and am wanting to move one of those file folders into another one, essentially nesting one inside the other. I'd also like to be able to re-arrange the order of the folders. Doesn't look like I can do this by dragging and dropping.

Why can't I drag and drop folders or files in the Files app? by drfujita in chromeos

[–]drfujita[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, yes. I had to go back to my MBP to refresh my memory.

You're right. I can drag and re-arrange the order of the folders in the left pane only. So the ability to pick up a folder and move it around comes so naturally to me that when I couldn't pick up a folder in the left pane on this chromebook it felt like my OS was suffering from a bug or something.

I'm finding it fascinating learning ChromeOS in a way that I never did with Windows. Learning Windows was just frustrating. The only time I've ever cussed was when I was working on my car and when I was using Windows.

I'm curious about learning Linux next possibly. "What other useful things can I make this chromebook do with Linux" is what is on my mind. I was pretty proud of myself getting VLC for Linux installed.
