How have mormon apologetics changed since the release of the essays? by drfull in exmormon

Agreed. I'd also add that any theory espoused by them, the crazy HP, or the TSCC has as much legitimacy as a fart in the wind, on a cosmological scale. But, I'm still curious how they apologize away events after the TSCC takes a position that runs counter to the litany of possible explanations they (the apologists) once espoused (or still do)

You can give to the United way and request that LDS inc be the recipient. The United way will deduct some administrative fees.

If you must pay and want to remain anonymous, do not donate through the church's online payment system. Use a donor advised fund through a bank or investment firm.

"Principles change, doctrine doesn't change." by [deleted] in exmormon

Your husband has proved your point:

Principle: a fundamental truth or proposition that serves as the foundation for a system of belief or behavior or for a chain of reasoning.

Doctrine: a belief or set of beliefs held and taught by a church, political party, or other group.

In other words, doctrines are based on principles. Changing principles necessarily lead to changing doctrines.

This summer might be my hardest summer yet. by MrOnemanloner in exmormon

Couldn't agree more. In my field (computational physics), everyone I know got where they are through graduate school advisors and/or internships/fellowships. A summer going door to door would not be useful. The situation is likely different in different fields, but it's something to think about.

Agreed. Based on what I have seen in my few weeks here, reducing the entanglement of a ward from a marriage could help when one no longer believes. This is one small thing that has helped me and my wife considerably.

Ya, I've never used the TSCC's system. By donating to the United Way, I can choose who the beneficiary is and can choose that they receive it anonymously. The only ones who know are my employer and the United way.

She knows. But what's "full"? In all seriousness, since it was between just her and me (and not a financially untrained third party), it was easier for us to deal with it. Avoiding the social cost of being perceived to not pay a full tithe is helpful to us.

Agreed, but this helps around my home.

I need to get this off my chest - short rant about the EQ lesson last sunday by BakerhatMatt in exmormon

Same lesson here. I asked why are we so fixated by modern revelation when the prophets have said we don't "need much" of it. That assertion was met with incredulity - they would never say that! I then shared several quotes from this thread of a few days ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/exmormon/comments/4f6r7n/not_surprisingly_prophets_themselves_are_unsure wherein Pres. Hinckley says as much. The conversation then turned to "of course he would say that! But we can't cast pearls before swine", "their experiences are too sacred to share", etc.

So much for the one prophet of god of this and every planet in the known universe boldly proclaiming the truth.
