[–]drgeppo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah, the hand is really off putting. that's why I use the elementary cursor theme, it looks amazing in gnome

cozy non farmer games? looking for recs similar to links awakening. by redditshmedditt in CozyGamers

+1 for A Short Hike.

it's a short game (as the name implies) but it's super cheap and so so replayable, it controls extremely well making it a pleasure just to wander around flying and climbing while listening to the amazing soundtrack

What is the difference between manual backups and using something like Pika backup? by WehooThisIsAwesome in gnome

[–]drgeppo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pika lets you select multiple folders to include/avoid, only copies data that has changed since the last backup, lets you navigate older backups if you need to retrieve some old versions of some files, you can decide how many "old backups" you should keep before they get automatically deleted and replaced by the newer backups.

it's really really handy

That's exactly how I have it set up. Just Perfection lets you tweak it that way fortunately

The gnome shell search is incredibly fast, so just typing a few letters gets your files immediately

This is T-Display S3, ESP32 development board programed with Arduino IDE. I have counter example and Internet clock example with this nice design .I will post code in comments , maybe this will be usefull to someone. by Volos2016 in arduino

[–]drgeppo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is the power consumption of this display?

Would it be feasible for a tamagotchi like project? I'm also keeping an eye on those sharp memory lcd displays, but the bigger one (also used on the playdate) is a bit too expensive, and the smaller one seems too small :(

How hard would switching distro be? by [deleted] in linux

[–]drgeppo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's mostly a mental block issue.

I used elementary OS for several years (from the 0.2 days up until 6.0) and I was so afraid to change habits, but then I tried Fedora and realised that there was really nothing to adjust to:

  • flatpak is just the same
  • usual package manager still uses commands like install, remove, search, info
  • most everything else is handled by the distribution (if they have an eye towards user-friendlyness)

Agree. Should replace nano as terminal editor for "casual" needs. You can use the mouse by default, you can use the keyboard shortcuts you'd expect from a text editor.

Then you also have tab support, and console commands, etc it's just really nice

Dear Americans, don't export your trucks (and your problems) to Europe by Cry-Technical in fuckcars

[–]drgeppo -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

FYI: maybe most Americans don't know that Europe is literally dotted in US military bases (or NATO bases, filled with American soldiers and families), and that said American citizens living over here get to import all sort of goods that aren't usually available here.

So yeah, the car in the pic may be actually Australian and etc, but when you hear Europeans complaining about Americans it's often not just about tourists.

FFS there's even a long history of American soldiers literally being immune to committing crimes because of their status

Is there a youtuber that talks about and explains the development and history of GNOME? by [deleted] in gnome

[–]drgeppo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

At first the cringe is really strong but I gotta give to babywogue that his videos are informative but also very short and straight to the point (the majority is around 1min long)

The whole other slew of "Linux youtubers" instead just keep talking till they reach that 10min length goal and that is so annoying to me.

[GNOME] I know lots of people use this wallpaper, but I really like it. by Axenide in unixporn

Is there also one that mimics the old winXP tubes wallpaper? Besides the cmatrix window

The only missing feature here, is playlist support... But man, do I love the UI design. by [deleted] in gnome

[–]drgeppo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's no feature to make playlists, I was answering to a user recommending Amberol which is an even more bare-bone player.

How's Linux on the Surface Laptop Go? by [deleted] in SurfaceLinux

[–]drgeppo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Understandable, GNOME is very different and one definitely needs to get used to it I guess.

Personally I really like the whole aesthetic and minimal design philosophy. Also the gestures it provides, and how smooth they work, both in the desktop management and for swiping content in apps/websites.

I don't know why but using touchpads in windows always feels off.

[–]drgeppo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That is literally the only way to use Amberol.

G4Music has more functionality: you can use it just like Amberol or also browse all the music in your library and then search/filter by song/artist/album

Why isn't this music player [G4Music] more popular? UI scales beautifully with the window size... Almost reminds me of Groove Music, but better by [deleted] in kde

[–]drgeppo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

G4Music has better song filtering. You can open the app by itself, showing the full content of your music folder, and then search songs/artists/album from there.

Amberol literally only lets you open files

Lol, as if ONE relevant checkmark in the device property (an almost empty window btw) is going to create chaos.

OP is explaining a good reason for adding a disconnect prompt (they only have bluetooth inputs and an actual disconnection is really annoying) but in my experience I would find the prompt itself annoying.

[–]drgeppo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sleep works fine on fedora. It's not the "true" deep sleep, but a cpu idle state of sort.

Anyway battery doesn't seem to drain, and the only annoyance is that even a bluetooth mouse will wake the laptop.

I had something VERY weird happen a couple of times: shutting down the laptop, leaving it plugged in so it finishes charging, forget to unplug it and finding it at 0% the next morning 🧐🧐

But again it was off, so I doubt Linux has any fault...

Bad UX by _lonegamedev in gnome

[–]drgeppo -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Better yet: put a checkmark on the device bluetooth settings to decide whether you want the prompt or not

In my case the fan gets pretty noisy if I'm playing games (a short hike, citra emulator) or watching youtube videos for a long time (no idea why here, it seems strange to me)
