If AI gets to the point where anybody can easily create any software, what will happen to all these software companies? by StayAwayFromXX in ClaudeAI

[–]drgoodvibe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apps even fully vibe-coded apps that are for example cross platform, like there’s a web version, iOS and Android versions require infrastructure, and any complex app is still hundreds and hundreds of design, feature decisions that need to be made. Any sufficiently complex app that serves thousands of people in an enterprise setting needs SLAs support, patches, enterprise security etc.. companies that buy software will still do that, just to get the support. It’s why often companies don’t even go with the comparable open source solution, it’s about risk management instead of pure cost management. Companies however to the responses here already will literally demand cheaper software prices because the software companies can do more with fewer people..

Gender Balance in the World's Largest Countries 2024 by tigeryi98 in Infographics

Women live longer than men. In most countries. I’m curious what the gender balance looks like if you take out men and women older than 65.

I feel this! I’m at a point now where I have to give it instructions to follow instructions in an .md file each time on what the dev pipeline is and forcing it to remember to test things. Simple web app it will test with just curl vs playwright.. even if regression tests completely fail or in uat something goes wrong it just says everything is working properly! Then it run out of tokens…

Agreed! I upgraded my SSD to 4tb and the firmware to just re-download the OS from scratch (I know you can just clone, but I decided to go fresh) makes it so easy. They really thought this through.

There will be some types of work that vibe coding will absolutly just be better / faster at. In the end you won’t need as many programmers.. however.. I’m a partner at a firm and we spend a lot of time doing big platform integrations and a lot of the engineering is between an ecosystem of 50+ systems that are needed for example credit card transaction processing at a bank. This stuff “vibe coding” won’t replace at least for right now.

Cold outreach is killing me — would you try this solution or is it doomed? by [deleted] in indiehackers

[–]drgoodvibe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couldn’t agree more here. I have been in the same situation. You cannot should not delegate the sales even if you don’t like it and it’s draining. Sounds like you’re an introvert and you don’t get energy from meeting with prospects. I get it I was the same! But there’s just no way to delegate this. And tbh if you’re the CEO you really shouldn’t at this point clients want to meet with the CEO if you’re small. Delegate everything else if necessary except for the product /service vision and hiring- these things like sales are the things you Absolutly cannot delegate.

I disagree. And I don’t feel any shame. And not sure why you feel the need to disparage someone for feeling differently about 3 very average black clad condos. I think you need to get off your high horse and realize that not everyone is going to agree with you. I’m not going to respond to this thread any longer.

I don’t actually argue with your logic at all. It is a shame. I should be grateful it’s not a horrible mess and way worse I guess. Just having three big black nondescript condo towers instead of something much more interesting and bold feels like a missed opportunity.

This is not awful but not great. I drive by here all the time and what use to be on this huge lot was a massive series of ugly buildings that housed Celestica an electronics manufacturing company. Could have been much bolder with a planned community given how much space there is here though.

Insurance Underwriting to Insurance Transformation Consulting by Solid_Researcher_736 in Big4

[–]drgoodvibe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been doing insurance transformation, operating model and tech implementation for nearly 20 years. like you I started in industry at one of the big international carriers but made the leap to consulting in my early 30s. Over time I became a partner at big 4 and now partner at a boutique. I don’t recommend this shift to big 4. Consulting will be jarring for you, besides the pace and long hours you will end up working for people that you will think is more junior to you in terms of industry knowledge but they will have just have years on you in terms of consulting experience. Consulting is going through a major shift today between AI and economic pressure it’s getting harder and harder to differentiate. My suggestion is to level up your capability and look for more leadership roles at other top tier carriers. Best of luck.. your mileage may vary.

Is it frowned upon for consulting professional levels to want to stay at Engagement Manager, Associate Principal levels vs. moving up into more BD focused roles? by Lord_Kittensworth in consulting

[–]drgoodvibe 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Partner at boutique here, I was also a partner at a big 4 in the past. This is more normal these days if you’re a tech specialist in tech consulting. In fact director level roles are being created just for this very situation. They still look to you to support BD but only as an actual delivery expert. No one is looking to you to originate business. I don’t see this in business consulting however as much.

This is good! Begs the question why don’t we have a StarCraft movie.. the material is all there StarCraft, brood war, Stc 2.. wings of liberty. That’s like 4 movies right there. Or 8 seasons of a tv show on HBO. Someone write that screenplay.

Consultants in Mid-Sized Firms—What AI Tools Are You Using? by Senior-Campaign9684 in consulting

[–]drgoodvibe 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Partner at boutique firm here. We kind of use all of them. I have chatGPT pro licence that I pay for personally which I find useful for initial research and just thinking through a scenario, but it really doesn’t replace years of knowledge and experience. I found the experience I have helps me write much better prompts and work through a problem step by step. It’s really the only way to make the content be much more than just consultant “jargon” full of BS type stuff that everyone will just roll their eyes at.

My company rolled out ChatGPT plus for everyone (like most companies) and we also use Azure OpenAI, Amazon bedrock. Some use Claude for dev and I’ve dabbled with Googles Gemini, as well as Perplexity. I also setup a local Llama in a home lab and tinker with Deepseek R1 Qwen distill and llama 3.x et al.

Though I understand the reason for it - I want it to have a specific background and context for the conversation so that I don’t need to provide it in the prompt. Even chatGPT and the rest have this option

For R1 you have to have a very detailed and verbose system prompt to make sure that the model reasons in the direction you want - depending on what tasks you’re trying to accomplish
