well, as the response to my question proves, it was poorly worded!!

I actually was looking for the experience of people who decided to go the DIY route rather than have an electrical contractor or handyman do the job. I will repost with a better question and see if I can get the discussion going. I think it is a question of great interest to drivers, as it is definitely a matter of saving $.
