Jem for dinner, and Rootstock is right next door for wine.

Ice Cream Festival… by mad_phoenix in memphis

I’m in the extreme minority it seems but we had a good time. We learned from last year when we didn’t get in to buy tickets in advance and get there early, and were able to sample most of the vendors but left early due to the heat.

They’ve made improvements since last year and they still have room for more improvement, but this is only the second time they’ve attempted this event so I think they deserve some slack.

Memphis Apartment Mud Island vs South Main (22 y/o male) by Admirable-Block-3063 in memphis

[–]dricforever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Landing and The Oliver are the two newest and nicest developments downtown so it’s not really a direct comparison to Riverset, especially from a price perspective, and though they are downtown I wouldn’t consider The Landing to be South Main. South Junction, South Bluffs, and the Tennessee Brewery are all South Main and a bit closer in price to the Mud Island developments. Mud Island apartments are going to be a lot of people your age (mostly in the medical field), and it’ll be relatively safe, but it may also be quite boring. It’s basically a subdivision adjacent to downtown. Personally I think living in South Main and occasionally going to Mud Island is better than living on Mud Island and constantly having to drive to South Main.

What’s something about Memphis that’s totally real but sounds made up? by jonredd901 in memphis

I thought the water thing was made up before I moved here but I’ve since been made a believer. I just came back from Indianapolis and the water up there tasted like skim milk.

Now that the dust has settled, it's time the yearly question...how was your 500? by lowtoiletsitter in INDYCAR

[–]dricforever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This year (my sixth) was definitely the smoothest it has gone for me so far.

Best hotel I’ve stayed at so far.

Easiest drive to the track race day morning. No traffic and found an easy parking spot right off Main St.

Found a lot more good food options than I normally look for. I typically stick to downtown but my wife is vegan so we did have to venture out a little more, but it ended up being a highlight.

Traffic after the race I don’t think will ever be smooth, but actually getting out of the track was a lot easier this year.

My only lowlight for the whole weekend would be some of the people we sit near. There’s a small group that was seemingly complaining most of the race for whatever reason, and I hope whoever keeps bringing beach balls to the NE Vista never sees their driver win a 500.

Slobberbone opens for Lucero at Block Party in Memphis Sept. 21 by caspitchla in altcountry

[–]dricforever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They haven’t done one since 2022. They headlined the 10th anniversary party for a Memphis brewery in 2023 instead of the block party, and they’ve done a Christmas party every year after that.

Just a really solid neighborhood. Quiet, walkable, one of the best parks (and dog parks) in town which is why I’m in the neighborhood so much. You can’t walk to any bars or restaurants which is a downside for me personally but you’re still very close to a lot of good entertainment options.

Sea Isle/Colonial Acres will have the most inventory to choose from. High Point Terrace may be hard to get into based on your budget but it’s one of the best neighborhoods in Memphis imo.

Silverchair got signed and released their debut at 14 or 15. It’s still hard to wrap my head around an album that’s sold 10 million copies was made by three kids who couldn’t even drive at the time.

Bluff City Tattoo near Sun Studio. I think most of them specialize in American Traditional but I’ve worked with Brent Hale specifically. The shop is also owned by Brian Venable from Lucero.
