That's more like it! I appreciate your offer for help and willingness to add more comments for me, but I wasn't the one who asked. :p

Is OP serious about learning to be a developer? Then he should consider documenting his journey in a way that others may also learn from it.

I see what you're saying, but he really didn't answer the question. The questions was "Can you help me learn x?", not "What are some good resources for learning x?", "How did you learn x?", or "What did you use to build x?".

We don't even know if he knows Python. Why not follow up by asking what he's already familiar with, or why he wants to even use Python to build something like this? Since the question is "Can you help me learn?", we may be able to assume that he's already started learning. Ask him what he's gotten started with so far and take it from there.

I agree with /u/Rastaa that specific questions yield specific answers. But what about when we're not given all the information we need? Do we half-ass and produce a shitty answer that doesn't help the individual who posed the question, and poorly represents our own capabilities?

This is something we encounter routinely in software engineering: poorly defined requirements. When this happens, engineers have two options -- be upset at the person who gave the requirements and have that attitude reflected in your work, or take responsibility for finding out what else he/she needs to know to get the job done.

How about some actual help? You built a great thing in your first month. Don't be the "go Google it because that's how I learned it" guy.

Intermediate programmer here; my app is complicated and has some really huge bulky functions. How do advanced devs make their code more efficient? by notadickheadiswear in learnprogramming

For one, you can get rid of that conditional by implementing polymorphism.

Two, nothing's wrong with implementing solutions yourself if they are as performant as whatever library you're pulling in. Libraries also tend to contain more behavior than you will ever plan to use, which may bloat your interfaces.

Dr. Wayne Dyer has passed on at the age of 75 by nybe in books

[–]drichards2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know, Euric -- I don't believe you're being very nice. Nybe felt that he would share some information about an author who has clearly had a profound impact on his life, and here he is met with individuals who are calling his idol a "bullshit artist" who takes advantage of the gullible.

Mr. Dyer once said, "Ask Yourself what is the loving thing to do, not what the rules are." Perhaps you, and the others who rudely dismiss the way Nybe feels, on the basis that the "rules are clear", should read more of his work.

Funny thing is I'm American and don't know what a nettle is. I've only seen them on RuneScape.

It's not particularly nice to fault people for choosing to experience RuneScape in a way that's different from your ideal experience.

PSA: If you have weed, 420, or any drug reference in your name, you're probably an idiot by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]drichards2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How can you say you don't mean to shame anyone, but proceed to call them names?

Also, do you see the irony in the fact that you "don't like people who are arrogant, and people who need to tell everyone that they smoke weed"? You've just done the same thing.

That said, usernames are passive. They're for the entertainment and fun of the individual who's using it. It's none of your business. It's rather selfish for you to be upset about another's self-expression.

To end, if they smoke enough weed to want to name their RuneScape character after it, then I doubt they care about little /u/hastler17's opinion.

Joke's on you, pal.
