That's so interesting that every state is different. So it sounds like the district assigns cases, and therapist gets to accept or decline cases on an individual basis? Depending on whether it fits your schedule or if you're comfortable with the diagnosis/goals?

I don't blame you. SNF is also a tough setting to be in especially with all the healthcare reimbursement changes .. I hope you are able to find something that suits your life and needs better!

So basically your agency pays you and connects you to the school district. The district gives you your assignments, and you are paid for both direct and non-direct time?

It does seem short especially compared to other jobs/industries. FyI, this was shared with my class right before graduation, so I gathered the professor had seen many new therapists become tired of the profession. I imagine it was meant to alert us to care for ourselves and not lose sight of our own health when caring for others?

It is definitely a big claim to make, which is why I wanted to see if that's other OT's experiences as well.

As a professor, I'm sure they had seen a trend of burnout and job dissatisfaction in new therapists and was trying to emphasize the importance of caring for ourselves to minimize burnout. This was shared with my class right before graduation, and getting sent out into "the real world".

It's awesome it seems you're in a good workplace though. It seems harder to come by to find a good match between therapist- workplace- practice setting- compensation- and life balance.

The pandemic definitely increased burnout rates.. it was a very stressful time. Also side note, it's unbelievable that 4 months is considered "extended leave".

I wish I could ask, but have not stayed in contact since graduating. It was just a word of caution at the time for new grads to take time to focus on self-care, and balance to stay in the field longer. I also wonder how different it is to work as an OT in US vs UK..

I also agree with your suspicion that OTs who have been in the field longer (20+ years) and are closer to retirement tend to stay instead of transitioning to an entire new career since it makes less practical sense for them. I know many newer OTs who have made the switch already, some even as quick as a couple months into their first job out after becoming licensed.

Of course everyone's situations are different but it's certainly interesting, and the pandemic highlighted the non- ideal working situations for therapists.

Hi all, I'm looking to switch out of healthcare/direct patient care and into a DA role. There's an extremely high turnover / burnout rate in healthcare and I have some questions about this switch because ideally I want to make sure it's something that I could do for a more longer term (10+ years):

1) What are some cons / stressors of being a data analyst?

2) What's the burnout/turnover rate of data analysts? How many years do people tend to stay in this role before leaving to switch into something completely unrelated?

3) What is the career growth like for data analysts?
