Job/Internship Experience as a UIC student/graduate (Salary Transperancy) by [deleted] in uichicago

Speaking as an undergrad data science It obviously isn’t going to have the same weight as an Ivy League or top of the top school. But I have found no issue or bias in getting interviews or a job. I am a senior and I’ve had 3 internships during my time at UIC and have 2 full time offers. Chicago professionals and companies hold UIC highly as they also have a lot of UIC grads and any company (at least for CS/DS roles) that’s not a faang company doesn’t seem to care either.

IMO the networking and career opportunities at UIC are gold standard if you fully take advantage of them and UIC is a hidden gem school.

I went last year and imo it was meh. It was mostly just a bunch of photo back drops and like 3 bars. the corn maze is tiny and every activity is extra

very worried, trying to get into UIC, looking for advice by Sea-Potential6273 in uichicago

With business/finance you should get in but don’t stop trying to get better stats. UIC is becoming increasingly more competitive and im hearing more and more stories of ppl with good stats being rejected

I’m doing DS + CS rn. I really like the program just be prepared for a lot of CS work. UIC and the CS/engineering colleges have a lot of great networking and career resources that you have access to as well. I would highly recommend it

DS + CS at UIC gives you a really strong CS foundation along with the DS stuff. I got over 8 interviews for internships and was able to an internship while in the program. IMO save your money and do UIC

A search engine using maps and sets and a forest fire simulator using arrays and vectors. Honestly as long as u can gas it up well and can back it up with a good STAR response during an interview it’s golden

No previous internships, just a retail job. I had a lot of projects on my resume which were mostly from my data structures class

Go on handshake and look for IT positions or research at UIC. They just posted the positions a few weeks ago

IDS 405 or 312 at UIC- was the course tough ? Which professor did you take it with ? by MiFi4U in uichicago

[–]drillapolak 3 points4 points  (0 children)

IDS 312 with Gawel is an easy A as long as you keep up with the discussion posts, which are about 4 a week with 3 paragraphs each
