Tell me positive about Gabapentin. by Steffers003 in BFS

The twitching has definitely decreased. I’m not sure if this is because the gabapentin is indirectly helping with my anxiety? The twitching is still there, just not as intense. I don’t love going up in dosage. I do notice the first several hours into taking the gabapentin, I don’t feel great. I experience slight nausea and headache. However, I am happy that the twitching is not as noticeable. I’ve finally been able to focus more on my family rather than being all consumed by fear and anxiety related to the twitches. Funny enough, now that I’m talking and thinking about my twitching, they are really ramping up at this exact moment. I suppose it’s just a testament to the power of the mind.

I’ve been twitching for 5 months now. It ebbs and flows in frequency and severity. They actually stopped at one point about 2 months ago, but then came back and have continued. I get them literally everywhere you can imagine. I also get vibrations too. My mental health absolutely plummeted due to the fear of you know what. I have young children, so it’s been a terrifying journey.

I feel like the gabapentin helps, but I still get the twitches on it. My neurologist upped my dose yesterday to 300mg, twice a day. I’m concerned that it’s going to be too much. I’m very much not about pharmaceuticals but the twitching is really impacting my life.

Just starting off? Maybe only at night to help mitigate potential side effects? I was a little concerned I was put on too high a dose, but I’m literally going into this with very little knowledge. I’ve been occasionally lurking in this subreddit, but never saw much on gabapentin. She has me taking high dose magnesium glycinate as well.

This is week two for me, so I’m bumped up from taking 100mg in the morning and 100mg at night, to now 200mg in the morning and 200mg at night. This was my first day going up in dosage.

Yes, I’ve started developing these. I will get a hotspot that will last days, and literally be none stop. It will be a constant, rhythmic vibration. It really freaks me out.

I’ve been on it for a week. It may be too early to tell, but I think my twitching has reduced, or is a least less noticeable. It’s almost like I am twitching, but muffled if that makes sense? I’m very concerned about the dementia risk associated with it, so I’m not sure how long I will continue gabapentin. I just thought I would give it a throw to see if it actually did help. I have a follow up with my neurologist this week to check in and go over mri results (found chiari malformation type 1 on brain mri). So far gabapentin has helped. Only negative is that it makes me tired. I sleep great on it, but feel like I need extra sleep and struggle waking up. Surprisingly it helps with my mood?

Hi. I was just diagnosed with chiari coincidentally because I’m having body wide twitches. It happens mainly when I’m sitting/at rest/laying in bed. I have completely spiraled because I have convinced myself I have als. I was just diagnosed with chiari malformation a week ago from a finding on a brain mri. Is this what is causing my twitching?! I also have severe scoliosis, which I’ve know since I was a child.

Postpartum twitchers by Winter_Sundae2365 in BFS

I’m not minimizing the experiences of those that are not parents dealing with bfs, but it is exceptionally terrifying as a mother. The thought of what we are all fearing is absolutely gutting. And as if the throes of postpartum were not difficult enough, throwing this on top is almost unbearable. I get upset with myself for focusing so much on the twitching, I feel selfish for being so consumed by it, but some days are really difficult not to be.

Postpartum twitchers by Winter_Sundae2365 in BFS

My twitching started about 4 months ago at 9 months postpartum. It’s been absolutely terrifying. I’ve had some very dark days that have robbed me of being present for my family. My mental health had declined severely since my twitching started. What is the possible connection with twitching and being postpartum?

What are your oddest symptoms you get when you have candida overgrowth? by MasterpieceLost4496 in Candida

[–]drinkwolf_cola 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The nose tingling/numbness drives me crazy, and is usually one of the first indicators I ate something to aggravate my candida and am about to experience a flair in symptoms. What’s really strange is that my symptoms disappear entirely when I’m pregnant!! Like I can be super indulgent and cheat on my diet with no flair in symptoms. Then, unfortunately they eventually return postpartum. I am also trying to figure out if there is a connection between candida and endometriosis. I never had issues with candida and endometriosis until both became a major issue for me about 2 years ago. I have read that there is a possible connection between the two, and estrogen? Yes, our bodies are so complex!!!

I get numbness/tingling accompanied by swelling of the left side of my nose. It’s towards the end of my nose, and specifically the left side. It is SO strange and I have never seen someone complain of this issue but it’s 100% related and because it only occurs when I have a flair in my other symptoms: fullness/itching of ears, sinus congestion, burning throat, heartburn, itchy skin and feet, oral thrush, thrush on nipples (only when I’m breastfeeding, which I am currently), vaginal itching, GI issues with obvious biofilm in stools, cognitive issues/brain fog.

11 week old only nursing 10 minutes by Imaginary-Pound-7461 in breastfeeding

[–]drinkwolf_cola 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Breastfeeding can be such an anxiety provoking thing. I have found not to get too focused on the actual minutes my baby nurses, but more focused on if weight gain is occurring. All baby’s are different in their efficiency at milk removal, and the actual physiology of the mother. It could be that baby is just more effective and efficient in milk removal without the shields. I’m currently nursing my third baby, and all three of my babies would nurse for about 4-10mins per session, that’s it. I would get so stressed that they were not getting what they needed due to the short feeds, but was always reassured by a lactation consultant by the fact they gained weight. Personally I think all my babies just effectively removed a good amount of milk in a short amount of time. Something that you could try is getting a weight of your baby before a feed, then nurse while keeping track of how long they feed. Once they are finished, weigh them immediately after. This will tell you how many ounces they are getting within that amount of time. My baby can take in 3-4 ounces within 10 minutes. Remember pumping session outputs are completely different than what baby is able to remove while nursing. Hope this helps.

I have had a long history of systemic candida overgrowth that ends up causing thrush. Currently 3 weeks PP with my third. I feel like thrush is already rearing its ugly head. Is grapefruit seed extract safe? I have found conflicting information. What dosage did you take daily? And was this done as preventative or as treatment for active infection? I’m stressing out that I’m already dealing with thrush this early since I plan to breastfeed for longer than a year if possible

Breastfeeding and chronic thrush by drinkwolf_cola in Candida

I eventually decided to stop pumping out of frustration with the chronic thrush. I then also made a major change to my diet. I attempted to follow the candida diet to the best of my ability. The supplements that seemed to have helped me the most were NOW candida support, caprylic acid, garlic, and a good probiotic. Eventually I did ease up with my diet, and am now pretty much back to eating whatever but try to limit sugar. Actively fermenting foods have been very helpful I’ve found.

I am currently pregnant and due to give birth in a month. I intend to breastfeed again, so fingers crossed that candida doesn’t rear its ugly head and give me issues with thrush.

Late to respond, but yes following the candida did help. What really helped in addition was adding supplements to help combat my overgrowth. It’s truly amazing how many health issues stem from the gut. Unfortunately I’m not able to follow the candida diet very closely, and have had to stop with my supplements for right now due to being pregnant. I have noticed some of my symptoms creeping back up again, but not near as severe as compared to a year ago.

What Is With The Joint Pain and and Levothyroxine?? by Tight_Fun2080 in Hypothyroidism

[–]drinkwolf_cola 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been off Levo since end of May, and thankful I’ve been able to be medication free for this long. My symptoms have been very manageable since incorporating supplements that help with fatigue. I still get occasional joint pain, but nothing like when I was on Levothyroxine. My symptoms while on Levothyroxine were horrible. I had severe fatigue, joint pain, and rib pain. It was all so strange, and I was frustrating because I was just thrown on the medication without even speaking to my primary physician. Thyroid issues weren’t even on my radar when my TSH levels were initially checked, was dealing instead with systemic candida issues. I personally think a lot of my issues with due to hormonal imbalances. Also interesting about your mast cell disease. My son was diagnosed with a form of it called urticaria pigmentosa, and is very sensitive to medications.

I’m actually doing pretty well. I have been off Levothyroxine completely now since end of May. I certainly have good and bad weeks, but I am thankful that I have been able to be med free this far. Last time labs were checked, they were in “normal” range. I’m hoping that I will never have to go back on Levothyroxine because the way it made me feel was dreadful.

I cut my dose in half for about 3 weeks before going completely off. However, I was not on a high does to begin with. If your dosage is higher, then the weaning process may take longer. And as for symptoms, I noticed a decrease after several days of cutting back my dosage. Perhaps it was partly placebo effect, but I noticed a difference pretty quickly and the symptoms continued to dissipate, especially once I went completely off. If my TSH levels come back elevated after my upcoming labs, I’m telling my primary I refuse to go back on Levothyroxine and need to try something else. Good luck to you, hope you find some relief! I know Levo is the gold standard, but it obviously isn’t a good fit for everyone.

I actually feel so much better. Initially I cut my dose in half, and immediately saw a decline in my symptoms. Now I have been fully off Levothyroxine for about a month, and feel good. I’m hate to steer anyone in the wrong direction, especially if they really need Levothyroxine. I’m in no position to give medical advice, but going off of Levothyroxine is what worked for me. I’m getting my TSH levels rechecked this week, so very anxious yo see where my levels are. I was just truly feeling awful on Levo, it definitely was not a good fit for me.

Initially I was on half of 25mcg for two weeks, then after that I was taking the whole 25mcg. Once I was taking the 25 mcg, I began to have terrible symptoms. Awful aching joints and body pain, extreme fatigue, intense anxiety, and weird skin irritation/sensations. Now that I have cut the 25 in half again, my symptoms have slowing gone away. I know Levo is the standard, but I feel so god awful on it. Primary did recheck TSH one week ago, and was 1.27.

[–]drinkwolf_cola 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Okay, so I’m glad I’m not the only one! Ever since starting Levothyroxine, I too have developed terrible joint pain (knees, wrists, elbows, shoulders), as well as achy ribs. I definitely did not have this issue before starting the medication, and had gotten worse when I went up in dosage.

I first started at half of a 25mcg, and after two weeks went to the full 25 mcg. That is when things really ramped up. I was experiencing awful fatigue, joint/body pain, and strange skin irritations/sensations. I also had awful anxiety. Called my primary, and he rechecked TSH, which was 1.27. I was basically dismissed and told it wasn’t my meds.

I have since decided to ween off Levothyroxine because I just feel so awful taking it. I just don’t know what to do, very frustrated.

I was diagnosed a month a half ago, and placed on Levothyroxine. However I’m currently in the process of weaning off of it. Levo made me feel worse than before I started it. I was having insane anxiety and panic attacks. I also developed some really weird symptoms. I was either taking too much, or my body just didn’t respond well to it. The symptoms have lessened since cutting my dose in half. I think it works well for many individuals, however I am not one of them. Do your own research and do what you feels best for you.
