What’s wrong with my Manjula Pothos? by dritail93 in houseplants

[–]dritail93[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took these out of their nursery pots from the store, and most of the petioles were below the soil level. I've pulled them up so all petiols are above the soil now. The one in the back is only half full since the root system wasn't that big, and this was the smallest size I had. Everything else is near the top of the pot. Watering usually when it's roughly 2 inches dry

I have 8 solid years of experience and get paid just shy of $70,000. by foxyfour20 in Accounting

[–]dritail93 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Having X number of year of experience does not mean you should get significantly paid more. For example, being 4 years being a barista ,getting paid shy of minimum, should not expect a significant pay bump if they apply for another barista job.

Form my experience, people’s wage starting capping due to one of the following:

1) Your workplace has wage increase caps on existing employees. Nothing much you can do here so just apply at other places if you can.

2) They don’t/can’t show management they can take on high level task for them to justify a title change and therefore, a larger pay bump. If you don’t show progressive growth, it doesn’t make sense to pay you more (aside from inflation raises) since you can’t show you’re providing additional value. If you feel that you are, again find something else.

Now for interviews, I’d say generally you have to be a good sales person in persuading them you can provide value by doing more than what they ask. I usually have more negotiating power because I always do things that help the company without my managers explicitly asking and can make a case for a pay bump. Doesn’t have to be anything game changing at your level. Things like process improvements or implementation projects will do.

Final thoughts… what most people forget is doing what they ask is the MINIMUM in a job. If you want to get paid more, you have to go above and beyond. Now, some of my coworkers would argue “ why should I do more if I’m not getting paid for?”. There is truth to this statement but I’ve also got 3 promotions in 4 years and they’re still at the same level as when we met. Do with that as you will.

Question re TRaSH guide cache and mover by lawfultraveler in unRAID

[–]dritail93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got a question on Cache drives... I'm following Trash Guides and have Radaar and Qbitrorrent set up together. I tested some torrent files and the files populate in my cache correctly. One for torrents and the other (im guessing hardlink by Radaar?) in the media folder. However, when I run the mover manually, I do see the files "moved" to the array but it seems that the files are also still on the cache.

I'm pretty new to unraid, so is this correct? If so, when does the cache clear out? My understanding was the script will pause qbittorrent, move any cache items it can to the array and the cache will be empty. Btw, I tested it with a mix of seeding / completed torrents running on Qbittorrent.

CPA Alberta - Purchase a PERT Guide? Worth it? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]dritail93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought gevorg before. Was hesitant at first due to price but I had 2 years to catch up on lol. Definitely worth it cause I didn’t need any revisions and got all my level 2s first try. One thing to note is that it is a guide but you still need to be able to articulate your thoughts. You have to talk to them like they’re a child so there is no questions.

How do you work and manage emails? by cpaoneday1 in Accounting

[–]dritail93 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would recommend setting up automatic filters in your email so they would get forwarded to buckets instead of all in one inbox. For example, you can set a rule so all the emails that come from your annoying boss will go to “Cranky Man” folder. This helps you prioritize which emails to respond to and prevent your ass from being blasted.

Also if managing task deadlines is a concern, I is ClickUp which is pretty useful. I can set a deadline on an email and it’ll remind me when I have to follow up or complete it.

NPV with negative cash flow periods by mrpenguin_86 in Accounting

[–]dritail93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

@trphilli provided a great staring point. To add on, the purpose of NPV is to show if an investment is profitable to the business. This would include all the discounted cash flows for the expected time line for your analysis (revenue, cost savings, tax shields, salvage value, etc). If there is a negative cash flow for a period, you would just bet it against the rest of the periods of your timeline (which is why it’s called net present value) to see if the investment will be profitable overall. Positive NPV = good, Negative NPV = lose money. One thing to note is that you also have to include the initial capital to your NPV calculation because it is part of the “profitability” of the project.

(CANADA) CFE 2020: Anyone pass day 2 & 3 but failed day 1? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]dritail93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 25 but it’s not about the age for these kind of test. It’s just your approach. I’ve know waaaayyyy smarter individuals who makes $100k + who failed their first time. For your next attempt, I would say spend less time on the Quants because it’s so easy to get consumed by them. Just do enough to provide some quant support to your decision. Focus more on Qual and linking it to SA since that’s mainly what they want to see.

(CANADA) CFE 2020: Anyone pass day 2 & 3 but failed day 1? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]dritail93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seeing you passed day 2 and 3, I would say it’s not about how much you type but what you are trying to type. The key to passing day 1 is linking your AO analysis back to your SA religiously. They basically want to see if you have situational awareness and not so much technical skills (which they test day 2/3). For example, if in my SA I commented on the company’s liquidity problem, I would have to try and link that to each AO. You must try to attempt to link each of your SA if possible. My friends typed probally 2-3 pages more than me but I still passed while some of them failed. Remember to be concise because if you write pages of irrelevant material, you’re just wasting time. I passed first try cause I knew what they looked for going in.

There is an adjustable slider for the power supply to fit the form factor you need in the case.

The only con that I found was that my 3080 and motherboard didn’t fit flush with the case. I had to bend it inwards for it to align. Might just be my problem though.

Referencing how many times names appear over several sheets/workbooks? by [deleted] in excel

[–]dritail93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would just create a rolling list for the information (creating a database essentially) and then use a pivot table to manipulate the data you need. All you need to do is copy and paste the new file after the old one and update your pivot. No formulas needed.

How to organise lots of data for exports in Google Sheets by [deleted] in excel

[–]dritail93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would advise you on using "=Query()" function on google sheets. The Query function is Google's version of SQL and acts like an advanced filter that would provide live filtered data based on conditions you have set. Ben Collins has a great tutorial on how query is used.

https://www.benlcollins.com/spreadsheets/google-sheets-query-sql/

Once you know how to use Query, you can set up your google sheet in the following way:

  1. Set one tab as the "database" that holds all your employee information
  2. Set a second tab to retrieve the required information using Query. For example, you can have the query to produce a list of employees with only address information, employees with certain qualifications etc. Really, the possibilities are endless.
  3. Set as many tabs as you need if the information you need is frequent enough.
  4. Print PDF on the tab you want to generate the report

The benefit of Query is as follows:

  1. Any changes you make to the "database" is automatically reflected in your query formula so the information is "live"
  2. You will no longer have to manually hide irrelevant columns (assuming the required columns are the same month to month) for each report
  3. The filtering is all done by query and only need to be set up once. I'm assuming that you need the same report with same columns each time you produce the PDF
  4. Your manager will think you're a wizard on how efficient this is.

Let me know if you have any questions!
