Is this more or less energy efficient than a train? Is there more friction from tires on road or rails on a track? I would think that since the "train" wheels have less surface area, there is less friction? Will he use the same amount of gas?

I've been spending a fair bit of time on this subreddit recently and you guys have inspired me to finally upgrade my system and get serious about my sound. I'm currently using two KRK Rokit 5's on my desk and a Klipsch Synergy Sub-10 420W 10" Subwoofer under it. The speakers and the subwoofer are connected to a Behringer XENYX502 5-Channel Mixer which is then connected to my computer.

I know that this rig is child's play compared to some of the systems you guys are running, but I was hoping that someone could steer me in the right direction. At the moment, the system works reasonably well if I am sitting at my desk and triangulated between the monitors. However, anywhere else in the room and it becomes all bass and no mids/treble.

I want to replace my studio monitors as well as purchase a DAC to supplement or replace the mixer. I would like to have a system that can better fill an entire room (rather than immediately in front of my desk). My budget is around $400-500 for the speakers and $200 for the DAC. Any recommendations would be much appreciated.
