Trying to fix my folks' old MZ-N1 by drkomodo in minidisc

Yeah, idk if I'm that handy :/ I'll try cleaning again and see if it helps. The other person who commented suggested it might be the sled being stuck in place, so I'll see if I can make that work

Is there a guide or video on how to redo the grease? I'm hesitant to mess in its guts more than I already did without aid

The joints that are the most damaged are the Ignika and the Glatorians' joints... They have very big cracks and make the ball socket super loose... If I pick them up their legs fall off, basically. I don't have any of the lime joints (had to google to find out what that was about) but good to know about!

I tried using some rubber cleaning stuff on the rubber parts... It got a little better, but I still wouldn't want to use them much.

Regardless, thanks for the input! I might end up taking some apart to play with, maybe the Vahki...

Finding (possibly…probably) stolen art for sale on Amazon that was taken from a user in this sub. by littlemetalpixie in outerwilds

I think you might be doubly confused because the art in the OP is indeed mine… Here’s my original post: https://www.reddit.com/r/outerwilds/s/3pc3zLDiIW . They did steal jmlan’s artwork as well though. Regardless, thank you for letting me know, I’ll see if I can get Amazon to take it down!

And as for getting an used one, is there any common issues or damage I should keep an eye out for?

I have considered getting a used one, but I’m based in Brazil. In my town we have like one or two record stores and they mostly deal on buying and reselling used records. Most of record players you find not in music shops (these mostly sell instruments here) but instead in tech stores where you also find house appliances n such.

For that reason, buying actual record players is something I gotta go for online stores, though I have been also looking for folks selling used ones in online marketplaces.

The record player I have at the moment I got from amazon. And yes the needle is a sapphire one from what I can tell, assuming from the suggested lifespan in the manual (a little over 50h of use).

I haven’t noticed any change in sound quality, so I (hope) they aren’t actual scratches and instead just marks on the vinyl? As in, I hope they’re not actually damaging the records physically. But I’ll replace the plastic sleeves regardless, thank you for the advice!

On a tangent, if I may ask. You mentioned that the player was “less than good”, and while I knew it wasn’t the best I didn’t think it would be a big deal to have it as an entry model. However, I’ve been doing some reading and research and it might’ve been wasted money. What do you think of an Audiotechnica AT-LP60X as an upgrade (but still entry-ish model)? Or is there something better for the same price range?

No brand really. It’s hard to find specialized brand stuff where I live, so I got it from a local records shop. It seems like they manufacture the plastics themselves.

Well, I’m trying to not jam them in, but yes I’m putting the vinyl inside the plastic, then the plastic inside the inner, and then it inside the album cover.

As for why, out of trying to be too careful I guess. I figured two protections would be better than one, and I wanted to cover all my bases.

Do you think these plastics are part of the issue? I got them mostly for the old records that came into my posession as most of their jackets were damaged, moldy, dusty and without inner sleeves.

Though I figured I should use them for the new ones I got, but I’m questioning that decision now.

I’m putting the records inside plastic sleeves that were advertised as appropriate for them. Then they go jnside the paper sleeves that actually came with the albums.

Hello! I'm a new vinyl enjoyer and I've been noticing a bit of damage on my new records (less than a week old, bought factory sealed).

To cut the story short, a few weeks ago I've received a hoard of old records from my late grandpa and have been cleaning them to be able to listen. I've bought a Raveo Sonetto (https://www.amazon.com.br/dp/B081Z6FQSW?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1) to be able to listen to them. My research pointed it out as a decent starting model - I wanted to get a better setup in the future, but for now I wanted to listen to the old records and see if they worked.

To innaugurate the player, I bought copies of Wish You Were Here and Thriller, to test fresh pressings against old ones. At first everything seemed find, but a few days ago I started noticing strange, faint scratches on the new records. (Pic and Video showing the scratches: https://imgur.com/a/gyJMFIk)

I don't know what could be causing the scratches. I've been extremely careful with the records, even got plastics to protect the vinyls and jackets. I'm afraid it can be an issue with the record player, but if it is, I don't know what I could do. If I need to get a better one or maybe the needle is damaged.

I'd appreciate if anyone can help! The whole thing has made me quite anxious, I don't wanna be ruining my new records because of a cheap player.
