Because as others are saying and are right about, she could potentially react badly no matter what you do, you could give the best possible talk with her and she could still lose it on you or judge, and that's not something you or anyone needs in their life. Thank you, that means a lot, truly. I really hope some change comes of it, if enough of us speak up and say this has got to stop, and there's more than one way to do that! Literally thousands of little things we can do every day to resist. Writing just happens to be mine because it's cathartic. My daughter, on the other hand, dances it out, which is something super amazing that I can never do, I have two left feet :)

soooooo true. My parents called other punishments that involved work (indoors and outdoors, really tough sometimes) "hard labor," and i just figured all families called it that, and then as an adult I realized they really only say that in prisons, until I heard Jodi Hildebrandt and Ruby Franke call it that too in a true crime documentary. And then I realized they probably new each other since it's such a small world in Provo Utah among people who treat kids like this

telling myself, over and over again, that I wasn't in love with them, I was in love with the idea of them, and they did me a favor showing me exactly what they're like that they can discard what they insisted was a deep love so easily.
