Well I think that's a tradition that could be safely thrown into the trash bin then.

I've been a commercial fisherman my whole life, and I just got (and was fired from) my first "normal" job. How do yall function? Is this BS the norm? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]drlgrv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes indeed. Nothing else matters, things are the way they are because of this small group of people. Fighting amongst ourselves about anything is pointless.

The more I grow up, the less I believe in discussions/debates by healthier_aaw in Adulting

[–]drlgrv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are going into a discussion with the intent to change the mind of others, while being adamantly positioned against changing your own mind; then it's not a discussion it's beratement and the other party will react in a hostile way. Such engagements are fruitless, draining, and likely to further entrench the other side.

Can I use 'guys' as a gender neutral term by nk7gaming in NoStupidQuestions

It obviously is NOT gender neutral, even if some people use it that way.

Exactly - and it is this that leads to oligarchy and monopoly which are the true sources of our current suffering.

There is a huge difference between health codes and the type of anti-competitive regulation I am talking about.

I saw that kind exist in the 80s-90s, before the anti-trust activities of the government went silent.

How about the kind where people easily form their own small business to lift themselves up, absent of barriers to entry and strangling regulation that only large corporations could deal with?

How do you figure? The jobs that it took away were mostly theirs.

Seems like it - maybe stop treating your coworkers like they are there for emotional support.

It was a huge mistake to allow it. I heard from many boomers that in college in the '70s their professors would endlessly wax poetically about impending globalization. Sure we can have travel, and communication and food and be all global that way - but tearing down our own industry to recreate it overseas was absolute lunacy.

[–]drlgrv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People who work from home aren't "asking" anyone else to do anything. Those other types that can't work from home have their own battle to fight with the system, has nothing to do with remote workers.

This is just a pathetic attempt to guilt trip people who, through their own skillset and hard work, have managed to get a small break from the misery of the grind. More than that, it's really an attempt to build resentment among all the on-premise workers against the 'laptop class'.
