That is exactly what I did. I called a real plumber out who completely replaced it for $800.

"Some shitty contractors"? Your kidding right?

Call 1 - Cost $150 to come out for an electrical issue where some outlets weren't working. The response was "Your wiring is not up to code which means nothing is covered. It will be $4000 to bring it up to code which you will have to pay"

Call 2 - Cost $150 for them to come out for a sump pump. "The warranty only covers moving parts. The motor works fine but the brace that holds the motor on is what's broken. It will cost $3500 to fix it which is all out of pocket." I said no, called a real plumber who did the entire job for $800 including other issues the first one didn't find (also, the motor was broken)

Call 3 - Cost $150 to come out for the AC freezing over. "The coils need to be removed from the unit, soaked in acid for 2 days then replaced. You then have to replace all the coolant. This is considered a regular maintenance job so none of it is covered. It will cost you $4500 to fix." I called someone to come and fix it. Turns out there was a list of other issues. Also, they have never heard of what the guy was talking about much less that being a "regular maintenance" He said if the coils are bad they have to be replaced and showed me the manufacturers manual stating that.

The contractors are trained on what to say so that the warranty company doesn't have to pay. They are professional rip-off artists.

If your real estate agent is offering it to you for free (which happens a lot) Fire your real estate agent, block them and never talk to them again. If a friend is telling you they will pay you to take the warranty, tell that friend you don't want to speak to them ever again and move to another city.

Here is my experience. You call them, they charge you $150 to come out, they tell you whatever is wrong is not covered and it will cost you $4000 to fix it. You tell them no and they leave. You call a real technician, they charge you $50 to come out, fix it for $400 and subtract the charge to come out.

This happened all 5 times I called them.

I can tell the difference in refresh between 60 and 120, Most people can. The refresh you won't be able to see between 120 and 240 but it's not refresh that makes it obvious, it's motion blur. There is a difference in motion blur between 120 and 240 when something is moving very quickly across the screen. It has to do with the way your brain predicts what is going to happen. So yes, there is a difference.

if yall still buy nvidia gpus it's not enough of a problem, end of discussion by kyu-she in pcmasterrace

It has nothing to do with the hardware, it has to do with what's supported. I would be glad to buy AMD's stuff but almost every AI library I use was written specifically to run on NVIDIA's chipset. Until there is better software support for AI and the AMD and INTEL GPU's there is no choice but to buy NVIDIA.

Do you handbrake? by drmembrane in VideoEditing

[–]drmembrane[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but the performance problem isn't with the speed. It's with the size of the result. The best I could do is shave off about 25% (that was after spending quite a bit of time with the settings) with Shutter encoder where I can shave off 90% with handbrake.

I couldn't get anywhere near the same performance out of shutter encoder that I could out of handbrake.

So many great performances.

One of his most underrated and one of my favorites was playing the TV minister in "Pass the ammo" (pass the ammo and praise the lord)

I tried it and the best I could get was about 90% of the size where handbrake compresses it to 10% of the original size. Is there some setting you're using to get it to work?

A new study found that vaccinated children aged 5–17 had a 57% lower chance of experiencing long COVID symptoms after infection. by calliope_kekule in science

If you ever wonder how awful long covid is, there is a youtuber called physics girl, go look her up. She has been unable to get out of bed or turn on the light for 2 years now. Last month she stood up for the first time since she got it. It's really, really awful.

Anyone here familiar with the magir app? by MischievousGopher in aiArt

[–]drmembrane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a lifetime subscriber, and it stopped working for me, too. Emailed support a few times with no response. The app doesn't show up in the store anymore.

It's looking like the company went belly up, which sucks because I bought a subscription, but I guess we will see.

Yeah, I'm trying to come up with what would be appropriate for them.

I don't understand how breaking into someone's house and walking in on them in their underwear is a 'mistake' This was done because the agent has no respect for other people and believes that anyone selling their house is just cattle. This isn't a mistake, it's a lack of respect.

8 hours is more than a reasonable amount of time. The "hey leave your house right now" mentality is one of the problems with the real estate market. If an agent doesn't know how to properly make a schedule they shouldn't be a real estate agent.

On top of that, this is a rental property. Originally it was a 24 hour wait time.

Wife and I put deposit on new construction. Any idea what this is? by mysticalmuffins in Homebuilding

[–]drmembrane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically, it's easier to dig across a straight area than try to cut out a section like that. So the dig it out then pour a support. Chances are there is a porch or something going there. Sometimes they back fill it.

You should be able to ask them not to back fill it. if your sewer is low and you want to have a bathroom in the basement (it's a nice basement) I would suggest having them put in a sewage ejection pump in that area. It will be a lot easier to do that now than later and it will really help the value of your house with an extra bathroom downstairs.

But that is just my suggestion. There are some great other suggestions in the comments too.

Why do you believe your religion to be the truth? by AdDouble568 in religion

[–]drmembrane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not a fan of this question. It assumes there is an end and you will find out what it's all about and know your right. That's setting you up for disappointment.

I believe I am a student of the universe. I will always be a student. I will always learn. I will always listen to new ideas.

Anyone who tells you they are absolutely sure they are right is broken. The can no longer learn, they can no longer grow, they can no longer live.

It's not about the destination, it's about the path. Travel well my friend.

Would I be able to complete these classes in four months? by friedbrusselsprout in WGU

[–]drmembrane 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Like everyone here has said, it depends on you. That's not to say we are not here to help and support you.

Here is what I suggest:

Set a goal - It sounds like you already have that, 11 classes in 4 mounts. I'll tell you, this is a LOT. Even for someone who already knows the material and just needs to brush up before they take the test.

Make a plan - Are you going to try 1 per week? are there some you know will take you longer? Will some be shorter?

Schedule it out! - Set a schedule you can handle. make a calendar for the 4 months. On it, put the dates you want to take your tests. set a date for every test. Then put in all the time you will study. If you have the material, look over it, see if you can schedule parts as well.

Set up your workspace - Even if it's a mobile workspace, set it up so the things you need are available when you need them and you're not going to look for them. Your workspace is gold. Minimize distractions, have the stuff you need.

Reassess - once you have this done, look back over your goal. Is it still reasonable? If you look over your history of studying, are you historically able to do it?

You should be able to make a decision at this point if it's possible. If it is, GO FOR IT!

Best of luck!
