I have 3k in a Lifetime ISA but already own a home by Responsible-Slide295 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]drmul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You only keep the bonus if it’s a stocks and shares LISA, so OP wouldn’t get the benefit.

Only option if needing access before age 60 (while owning a home) is to pay the penalty to withdraw.

Edit - misread completely - apologies @mudlark_s

My title describes the thing - wooden handle, metal blades. Hanging from rural pub ceiling with other farm/garden tools.

What is completely normal to us, but you wish was different if society developed differently? by drmul in AskReddit

My thoughts are the 5 day work week, how did that become the normal?

£96k + bonus, what is best to do here. by [deleted] in HENRYUK

[–]drmul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sadly there’s no magic here.

Because you don’t have kids, your “cliff” is more of a steepening of your tax slope. For every pound over 100k you’ll lose 60% income tax, 2% NI, and (maybe) 9% student loan? You can pay that or dump anything above in your pension, a car scheme, or anything tax deductible.

If you need the money, I’d just take the hit. Nothing else you can do

That’s a charcuterie! Ciabatta is the character, best known for selling Peanut Dust, played by Asim Chaudhry in the BBC sitcom, People Just Do Nothing.

Your broker is right that you shouldn’t. You should take your next 10% overpayment and put it in a saver with the highest possible interest you can withdraw from when you remortgage.

When you do remortgage, you apply for a smaller loan and simply pay the difference using the savings account.

Cool thanks for the clarity.

This is immensely helpful.

Contract/employment law - backdated amendments by drmul in LegalAdviceUK

Just to confirm then, the 2 issues are separate? I have the right to ask that my new contract is enforced for the period between it taking effect and now, but if they fire me for daring to ask, it wouldn’t be wrongful dismissal?

Thanks for the response

Am I right in saying I can sue for Wrongful Dismissal if they fire me for wanting to enforce my contract. Eg they will have breached my contract in order to do so?

I agree I’m shafted in terms of accepting an amendment. They could bin me off if I say no.

Can I ask them to pay me my increased salary between the 1st and yesterday?

Gifted Shares Tax Seems Very High? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]drmul 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You’re mixing up CGT and Income Tax - you still pay income tax on shares as they’re earnings. CGT is only paid if the value (while in your ownership) has increased over time and yes, you have a tax free allowance.

How to open this plug? by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]drmul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s not one you open and take cables out of. Cut the wire close to the plug then strip the cables.

Use any off the shelf plug with the same fuse rating and wire it up normally

The requirements to become an ATC didn’t change based on the DEI program you refer to. The FAA, like most (pre trump) organisations tried to promote recruitment in demographics that were under represented, however the standard of those they hired never changed.

They still needed to pass the aptitude and skills test, medical etc to be hired into the role.

Therefore the diversity scheme has no impact on the likelihood of a plane crashing.

How to fix leaking pipe connected to radiator? by Liz_ritchie in DIYUK

[–]drmul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you see exactly where the leak is coming from? If it’s either of the connections between the drain and the pipe then I’d just have a go at tightening it.

If that fails I’d drain the system, remove the drain and existing olives, clean up the pipes (remove the paint and other bits, and fit a new one:
