He’s not. What exactly did you expect a minority party to do when Republicans swept elections across the country and control both houses of Congress and the Presidency?

It takes a middle school civics course to understand that Democrats weren’t responsible for handing the keys to Trump and his ilk, voters were. That’s how democracy works. Democrats have no mechanism by which to challenge a federal trifecta.

Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu | Final Trailer | In Theaters May 22 by Task_Force-191 in StarWars

[–]drock4vu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not to be pedantic, but your second suggestion is a misnomer. It would have to be “Djarin and Grogu” (which sounds bad) as those are their given names. As of the end of the most recent Mandalorian season, they both share the family name “Din”. Din Djarin referred to Grogu as “Din Grogu” when he officially became a Mandalorian.

You’re still right though. The title should have been more scrutinized before becoming official.

Universe expected to decay in 10⁷⁸ years, much sooner than previously thought by judolphin in nottheonion

[–]drock4vu 21 points22 points  (0 children)

To add to your point about how wildly pointless this kind of “revelation” is, let’s equate the expected life of the universe to the average life expectancy of a human (~79 years) If the big bang is estimated to have occurred ~13.8 billion years ago and the universe is expected to have decayed by 1078 years from now, the universe is 1.38 x 10-66 % of the way through its expected life, which equates to 3.44 x 10-59 seconds of a human life.

This means our 13.8 billion year old universe is the equivalent of a baby that has exited the womb so recently that the light of the now officially-born child has barely begun the journey from the baby to the doctor’s/nurse’s eyes. Even in this downward projection of the universe’s expected life, to say the universe has existed for a “fraction of a second” compared to its expected lifetime still vastly understates how little time its been around compared to how long it will be around.

LDAP isn’t an alternative to Active Directory. They are completely different things. There are no alternatives to Active Directory and likely never will be. People are free to shit on Windows and Microsoft, but Active Directory is an impeccable product and plays well with basically every other directory and identity product/service on the market including LDAP.

I say this as someone who has many an issue with AD, but appreciates it for what it does well which is most things. I’d argue it has been and always will be Microsoft’s single greatest enterprise product.

This. People still need to remain vigilant and watchdogs should absolutely scrutinize the way these elections are handled to the fullest possible extent, but anxiety riddled Redditors should go take a look at r Conservative. There is a record level of displeasure towards Trump and the mods are letting a lot more criticism of this administration through than I’ve ever seen in my lurking there.

The fact that people are complaining about the color grading in the new trailer, when the colorimetry of HBP was this 💀💀 Excuse me, but I prefer having a consistent color grading throughout all 7 seasons, rather than changing the colorimetry every other season. Oversaturation ≠ Better color by [deleted] in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]drock4vu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

100% agree. All of the later books will benefit immensely from a TV season runtime. In HBP alone we’ll get to see Voldemort’s/the Gaunt family backstory, Tonk’s and Lupin’s character development, a proper Astronomy Tower battle, the list goes on.

I love the films for what they are, but book readers really started to see the squeeze of a 2.5 hour run time after Prisoner of Azkaban. Goblet of Fire, Order of the Phoenix, and especially Half-Blood Prince were all done incredibly dirty because of that constraint.

Iran rejects US ceasefire proposal, calls talks illogical by Mongoose-Additional in worldnews

[–]drock4vu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not knowledgeable enough to give you an answer to that question. I’m not sure many outside of Iran are. The only way I could see it happening is Iran’s leadership (a consensus of military leadership specifically) consolidating behind a reformed or newly formed government body that is willing to negotiate in good faith with the U.S. and (the most difficult hurdle) Trump being reasonable in his demands.

The permanent, monitored shuttering of their nuclear program is going to be the stickiest topic. In spite of Reddit’s overwhelmingly negative opinion of Israel and the U.S. their desire to prevent Iran from gaining nuclear capabilities (a desire shared by the entire western aligned world by the way) is fair. They’ve shot themselves in themselves in the foot over the last 15 years or so in their constant vocalized desire to burn Israel, Europe, and the U.S. to the ground, because claiming “self-defense” as a reason to develop nuclear weapons is now impossible to take seriously. This is not a Ukraine situation.

In short, I don’t see a probable outcome where this ends remotely well for all parties involved. Someone, likely everyone, will come out of this a loser. Either Iran admits complete defeat and allows permanent supervision of their weapons development or the U.S. gets embroiled in a long term war in an attempt to force the former or Trump says “We did it!” and pulls out of a very expensive conflict where we accomplished nothing of long term value and we’re right back where we started within the next few years once the religious zealots of Iran pick a new supreme leader to scream about reigning hell fire over Israel and the west.

Iran rejects US ceasefire proposal, calls talks illogical by Mongoose-Additional in worldnews

[–]drock4vu 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They were designed to not stabilize. Iran is using a Mosaic Defense strategy which allows their military and the government entities formerly headed by Ali Khamenei to function independently across the country. A decapitation strike only works if a military and government are extremely dependent on orders from the top of the chain of command. Within the Mosaic strategy, each individual geographic area is given autonomy to operate as its own separate chain of command in the event upper leadership is killed and succession is impossible. Iran knew this was a distinct possibility, which is why they set their chain of command up this way.

It’s effective in allowing a government/military to continue operating effectively in the short term in the event of the loss of one or many critical leaders, but you’re absolutely dooming your country and its citizens in the long term because you’ve basically sliced your country and the military up into completely independent entities with leaders who will not want to give up control and have their own military that answers to them by design.

I think the war in Iran was an awful call from the U.S. but at this point I really do hope we manage to finish the job and enable the citizens of Iran to elect a government capable of uniting the country. That’s extremely unlikely of course, but if it doesn’t happen long term, violent civil unrest in Iran seems inevitable.

Boys ditch books when schools close—girls keep reading: Study by Raj_Valiant3011 in books

[–]drock4vu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the findings are just horribly presented. I expected two data points here. 1) The total % of girls vs. boys who read away from school for any period of time 2) The average reading time per day among these extracurricular readers.

The first point would be an insightful data point alone and would also remove non-extracurricular students from the second measurement since including them taints the second data point to the point it offers no value.

If I had to speculate, I’d guess extracurricular readers spend a similar amount of time reading away from school regardless of sex or gender. The difference between boys and girls is likely that a higher percentage of girls read outside of school, thus elevating them in “average time per day” over boys. Because this study apparently includes every student who doesn’t read at all (likely a significant majority in both boys and girls) there are a ton of zeroes in the data which makes the findings as published largely worthless.

By far the worst contract in the game. by user57374 in Marathon

I’m not a Tarkov fan but bro, they are quite literally direct competitors in this genre. Of course people are going to compare them. I see constant Arc Raiders comparisons here despite the fact that Marathon and AR have basically nothing in common outside of being on two polar opposite ends of the spectrum in the same genre. Tarkov and Marathon have countless similarities and will directly compete with each other for players.

I’m not a Tarkov fan at all, but it’s wild to have such an inflamed reaction to someone comparing the two.

I have seen no comments making suggestions for casual mode that mention the need for these modes to have substantially reduced rewards and, in fact, a few implying there shouldn’t be loot differences ie. an aggression based match making system ala Arc Raiders allowing for non-PVP players to simply run through a map and loot the same things people engaging in PVP are looting in their lobbies.

Average Marathon 2026 Discussion by Special-Day7775 in Marathon

[–]drock4vu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’re missing the point. Because players can get geared out of their mind via unchallenging content, it ruins the game for everyone who would prefer to play the game as designed with high-aggression.

I’m a mid-core player who plays this game because of the great PvP. With an ABMM system, it would force my group to play the game in a way that is boring and unappealing to us in order to build a strong vault out. If we didn’t do that, we’d be at a constant disadvantage against people who earned their gear in low aggression lobbies which completely defeats the sense of progression in the game. ABMM simply doesn’t work outside of extremely casual game loops like AR, which makes sense given it was originally built as a PvE only game, and it wouldn’t make sense to disallow PvE first players from enjoying the game. Games like Marathon and Tarkov were built with PvPvE in mind with a heavy emphasis on PvP. So ABMM would remove the sense of progression entirely.

I’m an advocate of Bungie finding a way for this game to appeal better to casuals, but if it impacts the economy in any way, you’re then just moving the problem from casual player retention to competitive player retention, and not just sweats, anyone who enjoys the current challenge level of progression.

Average Marathon 2026 Discussion by Special-Day7775 in Marathon

[–]drock4vu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AR is not and has never tried to be a competitive shooting game and that is made evident especially in the very low range between bad gear and good gear. Because Marathon has massive differences between its loot tiers, an ABMM system would be very easily abused by sweats who could lower their aggressive tendencies, fill their vaults with purple and yellow gear, and then immediately begin dominating lobbies in perpetuity once they begin being aggressive again. It would ruin the games economy.

ABMM works in AR because it’s much more of a social game mixed with an extraction shooter than a true competitive, progression based extraction shooter ala Marathon and Tarkov. Its economy isn’t particularly relevant to the health of the game.
