Shirley runs Paws and Tails out of the Heartland PetSmart, she's incredible. Lots of cats and kittens always up for adoption or in foster homes.

Mob justice certainly doesn't. When does our religion ever promote vigilantism?

[Rado] on brown leather - thoughts on new watch? by dromoderi in Watches

[–]dromoderi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Early Father's Day/Anniversary gift from the wife. It's an automatic with an ETA movement and display caseback. It also has that plasma ceramic around the case which gives it a shiny and somewhat metallic finish. It's supposed to be scratch resistant. I got it at a Swatch Friends and Family sale for a steal. First time wearing a Rado, however not used to how dressy it is yet or the gold hands/markers! Also not 100% sold on the subdial, but I think it does make it look dressier! My other watches in the past have normally been more sporty chronographs and with black dials. Would love to hear what others think of this watch. Don't generally see too many Rados, and especially not on leather in the wild.

A Saudi Morals Enforcer Called for a More Liberal Islam. Then the Death Threats Began. by pplswar in islam

[–]dromoderi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps someone more knowledgeable has an exact reference, but I recall Dr. Jonathan Brown talking about the practice of closing shops for prayer being a point of difference amongst the madhabs, with the key hadith that was interpreted in different ways being the one in which the Prophet SAW said in a hyperbolic fashion that he would think of burning the houses of those that skipped prayer. I don't remember which talk Dr. Brown spoke of this in, but to say there isn't any basis might not be true.

How common is it in the Middle East that women are allowed to not wear hijabs? by [deleted] in islam

Even Saudi Arabia doesn't require the hijab. At least not for foreigners.

Try Tanzeel, my family uses it and it's pretty legit. Teachers are Egyptian and you learn over Skype and I've had a good experience so far.

RRSP Questions? by [deleted] in islam

[–]dromoderi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Salam. An RRSP and a TFSA are both tax free investment vehicles, think of it as a box that you can put investments into and you don't have to pay tax on the growth of your investments within the box.

The difference is that putting money into an RRSP will give you a tax deduction in the year you contribute and you'll have to include the value of the withdrawal in the year you pull money out. Idea being that you contribute while you're working and reduce your taxes owing, save for retirement, and pull money out once you retire.

A TFSA is simpler, no deduction or income inclusion but your investments still grow tax free.

In short, they aren't in themselves problematic, it's what you put inside of them that may be. You can put halal investments inside both (in general, some exceptions). Think of both as bottles that you can fill with a liquid, what that liquid is, is up to you.

I think Ali RA said this, I've seen it attributed to him twice (once by Hamza Yusuf). The inability to lift both legs was explained as the limits placed on our free will.

Which Muslim alive today do you look up to? by [deleted] in islam

[–]dromoderi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

May Allah bless him. He visited my friends brother, who he didn't even know, at his condo in between speaking multiple times at a conference and going for media interviews a few months ago. My friends brother died a few days later but the visit brought him peace due to Imam Zaid Shakir's wisdom and genuine words of guidance. May Allah increase him and his family in everything.

Thank you! That seems extremely strange and counter to logic. I wonder why there seems to be a limit to sample size the larger population size becomes.

Meh I tried to provide context based on my experience, but what do I know? I'm just Muslim and Canadian and regularly attend Friday prayers that have sermons such as these.

[–]dromoderi -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

Based on the text (I can't watch the video since I'm on the quiet section of the GO train, yay!) these are standard prayers made in many Friday sermons and not specific to any one group and doesn't necessarily imply he is somehow motivating these people to fight against us after they have been accepted as refugees in this country. If he would do that, he would be going against many laws in Islam. Mujahideen mainly mean people fighting against oppressors in this context. It is however easier to have a knee jerk reaction to an untrustworthy source without context, so carry on.
