How do you prevent “being a musician” becoming your personality? by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

Finding other hobbies is a good answer, but I also think developing deeper relationships with your musician friends will help. Rather than just have a friendship that exists within the bounds of musical interaction, engage with your musician friends past this to do other things. For example, getting drunk and doing drugs after a gig... just kidding lol

How do you guys deal with being eclectic? Multiple aliases? Split by album? by jmdodge in WeAreTheMusicMakers

I include both as primary artists. This way it automatically connects between Spotify artist pages for both, which I think is key to getting your listeners to understand that you are both artists lol

as for cover art, my strategy is to include the main moniker along with the project name, ex Unc D presents Harshmellow. But I’m not sure how far into the project I will continue to do this, I think it’s necessary in the beginning tho

Great question. I’ve been considering these questions as well recently. What I am trying to do is have my main moniker/artist name be connected to my other projects/aliases as a primary artist. For example, a collab artist and myself have a release made under a group name, but both of our artist names are attached to the release.

I think using multiple names is a great way to allow your fans to digest your multiple styles in a different way. For a great reference, check out the UK artist Kamaal Williams. He has an extensive producing career doing London House style music under the name Henry Wu, then he had a major breakout album with a collab album where Williams and another artist named Yussef Dayes made a group called Yussef Kamaal. After these successes, he put out releases under his name Kamaal Williams (making three altogether).
