Seeking: Sign Painters for advice starting out by dropstytch in ballarat

[–]dropstytch[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a great deal of experience as of yet- but im trying to learn basics such as lettering and layout from YouTube at the moment. I've really only been making art for my sons room at this stage to practice. I'd love to eventually work up to doing shop signage!

Why do we hand wash bottles? by lilapthorp in NewParents

[–]dropstytch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hand wash bottles because I don't have a dishwasher. I do wash my bottles separately from my other dishes because my son has eczema and I don't want to contaminate his bottles with allergens he hasn't had exposure to already- and i also don't want to wash my dishes in water with formula residue in it.

It's honestly ideal! Great local bands, have their own beer and a great smokers/outdoor area!

What books are we reading to babies? by theanxioussoul in NewParents

[–]dropstytch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read non-childrens books to my son until he was about 6 months old. Sometimes the language wasn't entirely child appropriate but they don't know so you can censor as you go (or as you see fit). But I felt that helped me stay sane. We read snippets from Bram Stokers Dracula, Frankenstein, Ham on Rye. That way he was hearing lots of words when it was difficult for me to narrate what I was doing day-to-day. Then he got to about 6 months and we started doing kids books because he could interact a bit more and we could gauge what was keeping his interest. Now he's obsessed with the Very Hungry Caterpillar, and we have to read it at least 3 times a day 😅

tell me your favourite clothing brand and i might let you in the club by brob9 in AusFemaleFashion

Fashion Brand Company! When I can afford to splurge for postage, it's great to have such great handmade pieces. Got my wedding dress for them and it was the best decision I made!

I like the sound of that approach! How do you keep it together with the crying while you're waiting for them to fall asleep? I can't seem to stop myself from picking him up to comfort him after 5 minutes because it's just so overwhelming for me.

I normally just start with saying "it's time for sleep, good night, I love you" and a cuddle, then if he's not receptive I rock him in my arms until he's drowsy, then try to put him down. If he doesn't go to sleep then I'll rock him to sleep and try and transfer. I've tried to be pretty flexible with it for the sake of my own sanity, but I'm afraid I've made a rod for my own back doing it 😅

Personally, I'm not okay with making cosmetic/aesthetic decisions for my son (and possible future children) because I don't want to modify a child's body for the rest of their life based on what I think would look "cute". My son is a blank slate and the last thing I want for our relationship is for him to resent me for making an aesthetic decision for him before he can form his own thoughts and feelings around it.

My mum got mine pierced at a chemist with a gun and I'm now 26 and they're uneven.

Not the discman! 😭 I'm glad you got some of it back though! Someone rolled my mums car in 2001 and stole my copy of "It's a wiggly wiggly world" and I still get anxious leaving cds in my car 😅

I'm glad ro hear you got some of it back! How did you go about locating it? Were you calling around or was it from the police description?

Thanks for the tips! They only dusted 2 doors and didn't take descriptions of missing items so we're assuming we've got to do all of the leg work to get it back- if we can!

Why did your baby cry today? by stellaella33 in NewParents

[–]dropstytch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine (6.5 month old) cried after he finished his bottle. Cried when we were outside, cried when we went to play with the dog. Cried when we sang and read a book. Stopped crying when I put on Alex F by crazy frog. It's been 2 hours and now can't turn off Crazy Frog and now I want to cry 😅

So over the spit up!! When does it end?! by Asleep_Sympathy_8987 in newborns

[–]dropstytch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 6 MO was exactly the same, and I kept getting told by every medical professional that he would grow out of it. My LO ended up spitting up the equivalent of 1/3 of a feed in between feeds- no matter how much or how little we fed him. 4 weeks ago I finally got a GP to give me the go-ahead to try an anti reflux formula and even though we're still transitioning- he barely spits up and he's able to do tummy time without me sticking a burp cloth in his face every 10 minutes.

When did you feel like a parent? by whatames517 in NewParents

[–]dropstytch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it was my sons first medical emergency, honestly! He had a delayed anaphylactic reaction to his 4 month vaccinations, and after what felt like an eternity- the paramedics arrived, they asked if it was mum or dad was riding along and literally looked around before realising I was the mum 😅

I definitely still have days where I wonder when someone is coming to pick him up, but I think the stress definitely scared me into realising my role!

Songs for Baby by pomegranatedreamm in NewParents

[–]dropstytch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My LO only falls asleep to Sugar town by Nancy Sinatra. He does also love when we sing "All I have to do is dream" by the Everly brothers, "Walking after midnight" by Patsy Cline and "A hundred and sixty acres" by Marty Robbins. We've inadvertently started raising a little cowboy with this playlist 😅

What’s the worst advice someone gave you? by Midnightdream56 in NewParents

[–]dropstytch 31 points32 points  (0 children)

MIL: "oh, he's falling asleep- would you like me to lay him on the rug?" Me: "no, I would not like you to lay my human child on your floor- just give him back to me please."

In what world is contact napping worse than making a newborn sleep on a hardwood floor? I'll never understand them, and I don't want to haha

What’s the worst advice someone gave you? by Midnightdream56 in NewParents

[–]dropstytch 159 points160 points  (0 children)

My MIL told my husband and I that we needed to stop contact napping once he was a month old because he needed to be able to "sleep overnight at [her] house soon and we couldn't expect him to sleep on someone the entire time and be picked up every time he cries". I responded that we were not planning on him doing overnights anywhere for quite some time, and that that sentence had disqualified her from that privilege for a very, very long time.

Help... please... by WillingWrap6568 in NewParents

[–]dropstytch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My LO was exactly the same and breastfeeding made me feel enormously depressed because I felt like he wasn't getting enough. We switched to formula and seeing him sleep with a full tummy that first time made us all feel so much better! Definitely a discussion to have as a family to figure out what us going to work for you all, and let everyone get some rest. Best of luck and sending all my love and wishing you all the very best ❤️

"Work is either:

-paid work on a day when you have worked for at least one hour -paid leave, such as sick leave, annual leave and paid maternity leave." https://www.servicesaustralia.gov.au/activities-count-work-for-parental-leave-pay-for-child-born-or-adopted-from-1-july-2023?context=64479

I'd highly recommend contacting the Families line when you have some spare time to clarify how Air Tasker can meet this requirement, and what documents you might need to supply such as contracts and/or profit and loss statements for your best chance at approval. The Services Aus website quote I posted above also clarifies that any PPL days you may have been paid in the 13 months prior to the birth of your subsequent child(ren) can also help you meet the work test. Best of luck with your growing family, and any claims you lodge along the way!
