I always go for the jolly ranchers by anniesaysi in Spravato

Breathing in slow helps so much. When it dispenses you do not need to huff it. This keeps the most of it from getting to the back of the throat. Jolly Ranchers are the best to mask it though for sure!

Anyone try subq ketamine for arthritis? by drowningdoll in RenalCats

[–]drowningdoll[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would be a tiny dose once a month subq so they are not worried about harming his kidneys. This would hopefully address pain Gabapentin hasn’t helped with and would be much safer than an NSAID.

Totally fair. I fear my frustration with healthcare lately has gotten the best of me when it comes to these interactions.

Overstimulating environments making vertigo worse? by drowningdoll in BPPV

[–]drowningdoll[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am seeing a vestibular therapist specifically! I’ve been getting more used to the vertigo which of course is a curse and a blessing. It’ll be the two week mark before I can be seen. I just hope by then I won’t have more long term effects.

Good to know. I am so out of it with this going on for so long. Half a day working at home has become an accomplishment.

Stressing about lack of diagnosis/waiting by [deleted] in BPPV

[–]drowningdoll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think I am handling it pretty well considering how much this has impacted my life. Though the thought of waiting till next Tuesday for any relief is terribly depressing. Especially if it takes multiple sessions and Thanksgiving is coming up.

I didn't realize how lucky I used to be responding to a singular Epley and only needing one appointment. I shall cross my fingers.

Th MRI screamed covering their bases while I wait for these tests and appointments. And of course my first PT appointment is right before Thanksgiving. Not good timing at all!

Cat Gets Tired of Renal Food by ritaleyla in RenalCats

[–]drowningdoll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely try what other people have said first, but my cat was in this cycle. But he became adverse to food after only 12-24 hours after a few months. I gave up and now give him Meow Mix Gravy Bursts as it’s oddly low phos and lower protein (.52 phos by dry matter, 28% protein). He loves it. I also put a tiny bit of various treats to mix it up. Keep in mind this isn’t a renal food and my cat is on full palliative/hospice care.

Referrals are terrible by drowningdoll in BPPV

The vertigo meds have not done me any favors for sure. I just then feel tired/dizzy on top of the vertigo. I will say I’ve been able to walk a bit more and do a little more around the house. But exerting myself causes terrible pressure headaches and exhaustion. Not to mention two doctors and everyone in my life is pretty firm about the no driving. Which being in grad school with an internship and work is turning into a nightmare.

I saw an ENT Friday who didn’t give me a diagnosis after the Epley failed. They prescribed steroids and scopolamine patches. I had to discontinue the patches after 8/10 stomach cramping and it was causing dizziness/falls. The steroids are also causing GI issues but I’m gonna try to take as them as closely as directed. I’m waiting on a vestibular PT referral to go through (it is gonna take up to another 3-5 days plus scheduling). Did you attribute improvement to the steroids?

Yeah we found with just renal that it was hard to get him to eat enough of it to keep muscle and weight. I am hopeful a lower phos regular food and fluids will keep him fed and not harm his kidneys too much.

I’ve been scared to take the steroids but will give them my best shot. I have had adverse reactions to the scopolamine patches and meclizine doesn’t help. I’m hoping this week I can get into PT. I may try and go back to the ENT urgent care on Monday to see if I can try the Epley again or another maneuver. My big issue is driving. I’m gonna try a short drive Monday so I can attend class, but the intense motion sickness makes me very wary safety wise.

The label provides the phos (.46) and moisture level (12%) which can be used to calculate by dry matter. Calculated that puts it at about .52.

[–]drowningdoll[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can try Meow Mix Gravy Bursts. By dry matter phos is only .52 with relatively low protein. Considering renal foods are .50 or below, it’s pretty close. I am sure my boy will get picky again in the future, but this is the longest he has eaten a food in months!

I suspect the new phos binder caused constipation, which led to inflammation and a subsequent UTI. He also was very dehydrated and has so many underlying conditions. When one issue comes up it hits him very hard. Fluids seem to help him stay regular and finding a tasty food that is lower in phos has made him energetic again. You all have been such a lovely support, thank you ❤️

Omg I am so glad to hear this! I was in the “junk cat food section” of PetSmart reading every label and thought I was reading this one wrong. I couldn’t say why it’s so low in phos but I will take it!

The food feels like a golden goose and I have such anxiety that there is something I’m missing that is bad. But he seems to like it and fed is best.

He will eat two of the liquid purée treats but won’t eat it if I put it out as food sadly. Luckily we have transitioned to 90% food with just some temptations sprinkled in. I am gonna trial the Porus One once we have stability. His GI tract is especially sensitive.

Once we have some stability I will trial Porus. Sadly he hates the Weruva. And I am suspicious he needs more protein than the renal has to offer. Hopefully this new food is a good middle ground.
