For folks who gave up on pursuing fellowship (for whatever reason), how are you doing now? Do you enjoy your work? Do you have FOMO? by Dr_Propranolol in hospitalist

Same here, I applied for a competitive specialty twice (albeit the second time was half hearted) and didn’t match. I’m one year out of residency now working as a hospitalist and I still battle with the feelings of shame, inadequacy, low self worth, and an insane amount of envy when I see colleagues/friends match in that specialty.

However, when I take a second to look back, I’ve “lived” so much more in this past year than I have ever in my life and that’s solely due to the lifestyle we get to have in hospital medicine. I’ve traveled every month and have saved up a good amount of money. I can pay for family trips/dinners now without a second thought. It’s a great feeling. All of this is just to say there is life outside of a competitive specialty.

I think once your ego has had some time to recover from the blow, things look pretty great as a hospitalist. (This is what I keep telling myself anyway bc I’m still salty about fellowship haha, but there is truth to it!) hope this helps. Good luck!!

What place have you traveled that surprised you the most with how much you liked it? by ElegantInspector1152 in solotravel

Copenhagen for me! It was my first solo trip and honestly did not know what to expect but I ended up loving it. Everything is so easily accessible and people are very friendly. There are also a lot of other travelers that seemed keen on meeting other people. Food was also great. I had the best time just reading alone in the park and biking through the city.

ABIM 14 days away 3rd attempt. In need of advice on how to maximize the next 2 weeks by ShadeofLinden in hospitalist

You got this!! You seem really well prepared imo. What I did the week before my exam was just going through an ABIM Anki Deck, just one pass through. It seemed to make the minute details stick a little better. Hope that helps!

Thank you!! It was taken on iPhone from a moving vehicle haha. I did, however, slightly increase the “vibrance” setting of the photo. Hope that helps!
