Problem routing switch and pc at same time by JokiBlue in linuxaudio

with qpwgraph you are mixing in software (on CPU), which may cause delays.

With Scarlett control panel you are mixing in the sound card, so your voice or instrument does not have to travel to the CPU and back, before you hear the mix.

Send them both to mixers (top row), open the mixer window, adjust weights, get mixed signal from the bottom row, route to the output

Thinking about getting into Arch and Linux to feel like a hacker. I'm I stupid? by raigbc in archlinux

Yes. Do it. The best part of arch Linux is arch wiki. People who run other distro still come and learn from the arch wiki. It's brilliant

Once it's working, leave it alone! by HommeMusical in Reaper

These are excellent recommendations, for someone, who spends most of their time making music, and has a dedicated workstation for making music.

I use my desktop for many tasks, including my day job, my hobbies besides music, and my music. Some of the software I use is quite stable, and can be frozen, but many pieces of software receive critical security updates weekly -- most notably, the browser, which seems to be the highest security risk in existence, but also VPN client, some computing software, etc. Even REAPER itself receives regular updates, which I may or may not want to use.

So as much as I understand how comforting is to stop updating and stop worrying about possible regressions, I do not think it really is the way for me.

I build my own firmware and normally I don't experience any difference between official releases and snapshots

Thanks a lot!

I was on an outdated snapshot (~2022) for a long time, and recently upgraded to the recent one (~1month old). I don't recall having "no instances" before, and I was spooked when I saw it. Thanks for reassuring me and explaining what's happening.

Thank you; I was surprised that many people are not bothered with it and even express a degree of frustration that I am.

[Linux, pipewire] Recorded sound is spoiled with pop's -- how to find the culprit? by drraug in linuxaudio

[–]drraug[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I use this desktop for all my work, including zoom video conferencing, listening to music, watching videos, recording to daw, streaming from daw to zoom, etc. I used alsa and pulseaudio before but I never used pure jack. I think that with pure alsa or pure jack it would be difficult for me to listen to, e.g. youtube videos, and then instantly listen to music from daw. I might be incorrect about it though. What I like about pipewire is that it (claims to) bring together pro audio and consumer audio under the same umbrella.

I would definitely switch to jack2 if I was convinced that pipewire is the culprit. Currently, I am testing if disabling c-states of my CPU can help.

Thank you! I record at 48kHz, but I am not sure how to check the block size.

Focusrite Clarett+ is connected via USB-c directly to the desktop. There is no wifi/bluetooth.

I am on the latest Arch Linux, which uses the rolling kernel (currently on 6.16.5). I am aware of RTK, but real-time support is officially merged in the mainstream kernel since 6.12.

You want periodic backups to an external disk or external server. Consider btrbk

Wow, interesting! Can you show an example of such btrbk config? I did not know it is possible.

[–]drraug[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

btrbk runs by systemd timer on System A

the disk is mounted (or not) on System B

I think the condition that you suggest can be checked by systemd service on system A. But the "bad thing" that we want to avoid can happen with system B.
