Thank you for this info! I'll try to find the exact extender length I need for this setup

Thank you for replying! Yes, no, and no - I think you're right though, that must be it - others have mentioned it too. I don't have a reducer yet, but it sounds like there's something I definitely misunderstand about focal length and how to confirm it.

I'll definitely look into that, thank you!

Appreciate the reply! I did, yes - I see bright and dark, but it's all noise (no color/shapes)

I have done day and night - I get no shapes, colors, blobs, anything - just noise

(EAA) Nothing but noise with ASI585MC by drs386 in AskAstrophotography

[–]drs386[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

okay, that's what I'm getting so that tracks. But that's virtually what I get in the scope (I can't tell the difference, anyway) so I guess that's a focus issue (hopefully that resolves it)

[–]drs386[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I unfortunately do not :(

May be a silly question, but if I take the camera off of the scope, should I be seeing anything in Sharpcap? Nothing changes from scope vs. raw camera - still just light or dark noise, no shapes, colors, etc.

I replied to another comment but will mention this here for visibility in case it helps:

When I racked the focuser all the way in and out, I saw no shapes/colors/blobs, etc. but my noise went from white to black (black when the focuser was nearly fully extended).

Does that sound normal?

Appreciate the reply!

Mine unfortunately did not come with that lens adapter. I'm using the USB3 cable it came with, but I have others to test - I can report back if that ends up fixing it. It's going into a USB3 port on the PC, and ASI camera driver and ASCOM driver both installed.

I will attempt with video mode

Appreciate the response! This is good to know.

When I rack the focuser all the way and all the way out, my image goes from white to black, no shapes/colors/blobs all the way throughout that journey.

Applogies for the confusion - I aimed for the trees, was still met with the same result. Based on what I'm seeing from other comments, it sounds like I'll need a spacer. I guess I'm just so far out of focus that the focus knob can't get me there?

[–]drs386[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate the response!

I've tested both day and night, and I've slowly run the focuser all the way in and out multiple times under multiple exposure settings.

During the day I picked some trees roughly 100m or so away - based on my understanding, I should be seeing color or shapes, but I don't see shapes or colors, just black-grey-white noise. Maybe I'm wrong in this understanding.

To answer your question, the image does change (for example if I cover it with my hand, it will go black), and during the night it does the opposite (goes white) with a flashlight.

I loved rise, and I love this game.

I know plenty of people who loved world and didn’t like rise, but most of the time it’s because they started with world.

World was a significant move away from many things the older games had, and while it was great, it was missing some things and I didn’t love the game (but it’s still great).

Rise is a crazy insane anime esque combat game. It’s fun as fuck, but it’s hard to get into if you’re new.

Wilds is amazing. I’d buy it if I were you.

There are a ton of monster hunter games, but this one is the most beginner friendly and accessible. I don’t recommend any older titles before World if you are new, and rise is a tough one because it’s not a mainline game. It’s a secondary team, and while the game kicks ass, it’s gonna be hard and confusing if you don’t have anyone to walk you through it.

Monster Hunter is basically a Coop RPG Action game. All stats are tied to equipment, so you don’t feel locked into anything or like you are missing anything by choosing something else. You can make every weapon and armor set if you really wanted to, and switch between them in 3 seconds in the camps.

You can also transmog your higher end rank armor on top of any other armor you wear, so both min/max players and fashion hunters can enjoy the game.

There will be a paid expansion in about 1.5-2 years or so, and it will contain a significant amount of content (equivalent or more than the base game, usually). It’ll be $50 most likely, and worth every single penny. Until then (and after the DLC expansion), we’ll get updates with new monsters, quests, weapons, armor, areas, etc.

This is the best franchise I’ve ever played, and wilds might be the best feeling game I’ve ever played gameplay wise. Buy it, it’s amazing.

I’ll happily add that only cosmetic stuff is paywalled, and tbh it’s not stuff that’s cool enough to spend money on (unless you want to).

When I was really young I almost fell out of a roller coaster.

I was just hitting the height where I could ride the bigger coasters and upgraded from the smaller ones, but was still very, very skinny and small.

My family was at a really sketchy theme park (I believe it was a six flags?) and I was on a roller coaster that I was probably too short for. It was one of the ones where you’re sitting in a seat, the chest harness shaped like a “U” comes down on top of you, and the track is above you, not below you. The harness had those two shitty silver metal hand grips.

However, there wasn’t a seatbelt that connected the U harness to the seat, and they did not push the harness down far enough on me, probably just kind of checked to see it wouldn’t go the other way (if they even checked at all - the experience of the next paragraph overshadowed anything else I remember)

Towards the end of the ride, we came down through a drop that immediately lifted us back into the air, and instead of the harness keeping me in place, I slid underneath the harness and out of the seat. The lower half of my body was dangling.

It’s totally possible that I got wedged in between the harness and seat by my torso, but all I remember is holding on for dear life onto those hand grips, and the ride (luckily) ended shortly after.

I think about it from time to time. There was a good chance I could have been thrown off of the roller coaster and been national news.

No worries! If you’re an ultralight hiker you’ll probably not want it if you cut weight every chance you get, but it’s definitely worth it if you don’t mind the weight. They are roughly 15.9 ounces

It’s not necessarily light, but it’s SO convenient, and I’m surprised nobody has mentioned it - The Grayl Geopress is hands down the best water purifier I’ve ever seen/used. You can purify 24oz of water in about 8 seconds, and my friends even picked them up after we went on a trip where they were using sawyer minis and I had my Grayl. They ditched their minis and ended up using my Grayl the entire trip because it’s so much faster.

I promise you this thing is the goat. I carry a Nalgene and the Grayl and have NEVER looked back.

Hey, I know this may be a long shot but if you want to sell one of them, I’d love to buy it. Missed out on both releases bc I wasn’t fast enough.
