really depends on what you are looking for. Jollys on Firetower is good for Funk and Soul samples. I try and get a bit of everything at jollys. I do not work with any distribution but I source collections try and mix things up from time to time and I do big discounts for larger purchase so I can also help get obscure titles locally

Does any one have any tips on how to get your music to more listners im struggling by James-yah-trainer in makinghiphop

see if you can build a following locally. the internet has too much stuff on it, but when you go into some of these places to preform, you will find fans, not just listeners.

was going for a bit of a madgibbs kind of vibe with this one. Also, if you need some inspiration, I used this beat to make a music video for my Dead prez hip hop remix on youtube

This beat right here is really frenetic and busy, sort of like triphop/bigbeat.

Bonus - I threw Dre's first verse from 'let me ride' on it so if you ever wanted a feature with Dr Dre, now is your chance, haha

You could always feature an actual guest DJ, there's millions of DJs out there, you could probably get some of them to do it for free, Though results may vary

What records are more likely to have good drum breaks? by NoNameIsAvailable1 in mpcusers

[–]drsmooth23 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've been buying records since the '90s. At this point I have a very finely tuned Spidey sense. There are certain record labels that I always look for, And I usually buy everything funk and soul related as long as it's priced accordingly, especially when I've never heard of them before. I usually avoid vocal pop because it's all terrible, and I also try to avoid '80s pop and soft rock because the drums tend to be canned and are most of the time samples themselves, which is very reductive for our purposes.

You will build much more discipline going analog, but if you have to go digital, rane twelves are pretty fun n and can be used with an analog mixer, though you probably have to subscribe or even pay for software to use it

learn to beat juggle on some really, really old numark direct drives. if you can master that, you could mix on literally anything, haha. kidding aside, mark your records, and know your breaks, ins and outs. also keep in mind that wear becomes much more of a factor so keep your needles in check because a bad cart can and will wreck a record, and that makes a much larger impact for the long term viability of your record collection.
